By using an amplitude-type spatial light modulator to load angular spectrum of Mathieu function distribution along a narrow annular pupils, the Durnin’s experimental setup is extended to generate various types of Mathieu beams. As a special type of Mathieu beams, Bessel beams are also generated using this optical setup. Furthermore, the optical morphology of the Mathieu beams family are also presented and analyzed.

This article intends to shed light on key legal issues that emerged from the recently released WTO Appellate Body＇s adjudication over China -- Rare Earths dispute, exploring possible policy options for China to reach its environmental goals on natural resources in a WTO-consistent manner. The article first spotlights positive variations in the Appellate Body＇s interpretative approach regarding the applicability of GATT general exceptions to defend the violation of WTO-Plus commitments under China＇s Accession Protocol; second, given the fact that the Appellate Body, pursuant to the elements inscribed in GATT Article XX（g）, confirmed the Panel＇s objective assessment based on the design and structure of the challenged measures of GATT, this paper provides reflections and recommendations on China＇s domestic environmental legislation. The third part probes into the interface between the principle of permanent sovereignty over natural resources and the WTO legal regime, with an attempt to offer thought-provoking ideas on how to reconcile potential conflicts between the two.

Variational quality control of non-Gaussian innovations and its parametric optimizations for the GRAPES m3DVAR system

The magnitude and distribution of observation innovations,which have an important impact on the analyzed accuracy,are critical variables in data *** quality control(VarQC)based on the contaminated Gaussian distribution(CGD)of observation innovations is now widely used in data assimilation,owing to the more reasonable representation of the probability density function of innovations that can sufficiently absorb observations by assigning different weights ***,the inaccurate parameters prevent VarQC from showing the advantages it should have in the GRAPES(Global/Regional Assimilation and PrEdiction System)m3DVAR ***,the parameter optimization methods are considerable critical studies to improve *** this paper,we describe two probable CGDs to include the non-Gaussian distribution of actual observation errors,Gaussian plus flat distribution and Huber norm *** potential optimization methods of the parameters are introduced in detail for different *** different parameter configurations,the optimization analysis shows that the Gaussian plus flat distribution and the Huber norm distribution are more consistent with the long-tail distribution of actual innovations compared to the Gaussian *** VarQC’s cost and gradient functions with Huber norm distribution are more reasonable,while the VarQC’s cost function with Gaussian plus flat distribution may converge on different minimums due to its nonconcave *** weight functions of two VarQCs gradually decrease with the increase of innovation but show different shapes,and the VarQC with Huber norm distribution shows more elasticity to assimilate the observations with a high contamination ***,we reveal a general derivation relationship between the CGDs and VarQCs.A novel schematic interpretation that classifies the assimilated data into three categories in VarQC is *** are conducive to the development of a new Var

Pitting corrosion initiated by SiO_(2)-MnO-Cr_(2)O_(3)-Al_(2)O_(3)-based inclusions in a 304 stainless steel

The influence of the aluminum content on the pitting corrosion of a 304 stainless steel by a Cl−solution was *** number,area,and composition of non-metallic inclusions were modified by the addition of aluminum in the steel,which was responsible for the variation of the corrosion degree of the 304 stainless *** detection,corrosion test,electrochemical test,thermodynamic calculation,and first-principles calculation were performed to evaluate the pitting corrosion of the stainless *** initiation of the pitting corrosion by three types of inclusions,including(Mn,Si,Cr,S)O,(Mn,Al,Cr)O,and Al_(2)O_(3)were in-situ *** corroding for 880 min,the corrosion index of(Mn,Si,Cr,S)O,(Mn,Al,Cr)O,and Al_(2)O_(3)was 0.38%,0.02%,and 0.00%min−1,*** the increase in aluminum content in the steel,the pitting potential of the stainless steel was 0.131,0.304,and 0.338 V,respectively,indicating that a higher aluminum content in the steel was beneficial to improving the pitting corrosion resistance of the 304 stainless steel.

Effect of gravel content on the detachment of colluvial deposits in Benggang

Accurately calculating detachment capacity is the most fundamental issue when establishing a soil erosion process *** deposits of Benggang are typical soil-gravel mixtures,whereas the understanding of the soil detachment of colluvial deposits is *** work investigated the effects of the gravel contents on the soil detachment capacity of colluvial deposits and its hydrodynamic *** colluvial sample was collected in Anxi County,Fujian Province,Southeast China,and a small-sample scouring test was *** slope steepness ranged from 18%to 84%,unit discharge ranged from 0.56×10^(-3)to 2.22×10^(-3)m^(2)s^(-1),and gravel content ranged from 0%to 70%.The results indicated that the gravel content is the primary factor that influences the detachment capacity,followed by the discharge and then the *** detachment capacity trend with the gravel content varied over different slopes and *** power represents the best hydrodynamic parameter for modelling the detachment capacity of colluvial deposits and can be used to establish a fitting equation for the colluvium together with the mean weight diameter(MWD)(Nash-Sutcliffe efficiency(NSE)=0.96).As the gravel content increased,the soil erodibility parameters increased several folds,in some cases more than 10 folds,mainly because the soil shear strength decreased ***,as the gravel content increased,the gravel specific surface area increased,the obstruction of gravel to runoff increased,and the energy needed for runoff to overcome gravel obstruction increased,leading to 2-3 folds higher critical shear stress of runoff for soilgravel mixtures compared with pure *** summary,gravel can influence the detachment capacity by changing the soil properties,and the gravel content also affects the relationship between soil detachment capacity and the hydrodynamic *** findings deepen the understanding of the influence of gravel on soil erosion and provide a basis for
