The development of new design strategies to create innovative structural materials,refine existing ones,and achieves compatible combinations of strength and plasticity remains a worldwide goal.Promising alloys,such as shape memory alloys(SMAs),bulk metallic glasses(BMGs),high entropy alloys(HEAs),and heterogeneous pure metals such as Cu,have excellent mechanical responses,but they still fall short of meeting all the requirements of structural materials due to specific flaws,such as lack of tensile de-formation for BMGs and low yielding strength for HEAs.To address these shortcomings,proposals such as integrating glassy matrices and crystallized alloys,such as HEAs/SMAs,have been suggested.However,these solutions have unresolved issues,such as the challenging control of B2 phase formation in BMG composites.Recently,glass-crystal(A/C)laminated alloys with alternating layers have been reported to exhibit improved mechanical properties and activated work-hardening behaviors,but they still face press-ing issues such as bonding interfaces and unknown deformation mechanisms.This review focuses on design routes such as the selection of alloy components and processing techniques,exploration of micro-structural evolution and deformation modes with an increase in strain,and future solutions to address pressing and unsolved issues.These prominent advantages include diversified deformation mechanisms,such as deformation twinning,martensitic phase transformation,and precipitation hardening,as well as tuned interactive reactions of shear bands(SBs)near the A/C interfaces.Thus,this review provides a promising pathway to design and develop structural materials in the materials field community.

Practical use of electronic health records among patients with diabetes in scientific research

Electronic health(medical)records,which are also considered as patients*information that are routinely collected,provide a great chance for researchers to develop an epidemiological understanding of disease.Electronic health records systems cannot develop without the advance of computer industries.While conducting clinical trials that are always costly,feasible and reasonable analysis of routine patients5 information is more cost-effective and reflective of clinical practice,which is also called real world study.Real world studies can be well supported by big data in healthcare industry.Real world studies become more and more focused and important with the development of evidence-based medicine.These big data will definitely help in making decisions,making policies and guidelines,monitoring of effectiveness and safety on new drugs or technologies.Extracting,cleaning,and analyzing such big data will be a great challenge for clinical researchers.Successful applications and developments of electronic health record in western countries(eg,disease registries,health insurance claims,etc)have provided a clear direction for Chinese researchers.However,it is still at primary stages in China.This review tries to provide a full perspective on how to translate the electronic health records into scientific achievements,for example,among patients with diabetes.As a summary in the end,resource sharing and collaborations are highly recommended among hospitals and healthcare groups.

Core–Shell Microfiber Encapsulation Enables Glycerol‑Free Cryopreservation of RBCs with High Hematocrit

Cryopreservation of red blood cells(RBCs)provides great potential benefits for providing transfusion timely in emergencies.High concentrations of glycerol(20%or 40%)are used for RBC cryopreservation in current clinical practice,which results in cytotoxicity and osmotic injuries that must be carefully controlled.However,existing studies on the low-glycerol cryopreservation of RBCs still suffer from the bottleneck of low hematocrit levels,which require relatively large storage space and an extra concentration process before transfusion,making it inconvenient(time-consuming,and also may cause injury and sample lose)for clinical applications.To this end,we develop a novel method for the glycerol-free cryopreservation of human RBCs with a high final hematocrit by using trehalose as the sole cryoprotectant to dehydrate RBCs and using core–shell alginate hydrogel microfibers to enhance heat transfer during cryopreservation.Different from previous studies,we achieve the cryopreservation of human RBCs at high hematocrit(>40%)with high recovery(up to 95%).Additionally,the washed RBCs post-cryopreserved are proved to maintain their morphology,mechanics,and functional properties.This may provide a nontoxic,high-efficiency,and glycerol-free approach for RBC cryopreservation,along with potential clinical transfusion benefits.

L-Band Analysis of the Effects of Oil Slicks on Sea Wave Characteristics

The purpose of this study was to investigate the characteristics of sea surface waves as they pass through oil slicks.The parameterized first-guess spectrum method(PFSM)theory-based wave retrieval algorithm was applied to 20 images of horizontal-horizontal(HH)polarization obtained using the phased-array L-band synthetic aperture radar(SAR)(PALSAR)on the Advanced Land Observing Satellite(ALOS-1).The images were collocated with simulations from the WAVEWATCH-Ⅲ(WW3)model in a 0.1°grid using the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts(ECMWF)reanalysis(ERA-5)winds data as the forcing field.The validation of the model-simulated significant wave height(SWH)against the measurements from the Jason-2 altimeter produced a 0.66m root mean square error(RMSE)for the SWH,with a coefficient(COR)0.74.In this sense,the WW3-simulated waves were reliable for our work.A comparison between the SAR retrieval results and the WW3 simulations was performed using the dataset for the regions without oil slicks,which produced a 0.34m RMSE for the SWH,with a COR of 0.79,which is less than a the RMSE of 0.52 m and the COR of 0.70 for the regions with oil slicks.Moreover,it was found that the SAR-derived SWHs were significantly underestimated by about 0.2m in the areas with oil slicks.This difference is probably due to the underestimation of the SAR-derived wind speeds at moderate wind speeds(i.e.,at wind speeds of greater than 5ms^(-1)).An additional analysis compared the SAR-derived wave spectra with those from the WW3 model as waves passed through the oil slicks.The interesting finding is that the wave energy at short wave lengths(about 30m)is reduced by the oil slicks,causing the movement of the dominant wave spectrum to shift to longer wave lengths(about 80 m).

Facile fabrication of Fe/Zr binary MOFs for arsenic removal in water:High capacity,fast kinetics and good reusability

A water-stable bimetallic Fe/Zrmetal-organic framework[UiO-66(Fe/Zr)]for exceptional decontamination of arsenic in water was fabricated through a facile one-step strategy.The batch adsorption experiments revealed the excellent performances with ultrafast adsorption kinetics due to the synergistic effects of two functional centers and large surface area(498.33 m^(2)/g).The absorption capacity of UiO-66(Fe/Zr)for arsenate[As(V)]and arsenite[As(III)]reached as high as 204.1 mg/g and 101.7 mg/g,respectively.Langmuir model was suitable to describe the adsorption behaviors of arsenic on UiO-66(Fe/Zr).The fast kinetics(adsorption equilibrium in 30min,10mg/L As)and pseudo-second-ordermodel implied the strong chemisorption between arsenic ions and UiO-66(Fe/Zr),which was further confirmed by DFT theoretical calculations.The results of FT-IR,XPS analysis and TCLP test demonstrated that arsenic was immobilized on the surface of UiO-66(Fe/Zr)through Fe/Zr-O-As bonds,and the leaching rates of the adsorbed As(III)and As(V)from the spent adsorbent were only 5.6%and 1.4%,respectively.UiO-66(Fe/Zr)can be regenerated for five cycles without obvious removal efficiency decrease.The original arsenic(1.0mg/L)in lake and tapwater was effectively removed in 2.0 hr[99.0%of As(III)and 99.8%of As(V)].The bimetallic UiO-66(Fe/Zr)has great potentials in water deep purification of arsenic with fast kinetics and high capacity.

Tribological study on the surface modification of metal-on-polymer bioimplants

The tribological performance of artificial joints is regarded as the main factor of the lifespan of implanted prostheses. The relationship between surface roughness and coefficient of friction (COF) under dry and lubricated conditions is studied. Results show that under dry test, friction coefficient is not reduced all the time with a decrease in surface roughness. On the contrary, a threshold of roughness value is observed, and frictional force increases again below this value. This critical value lies between 40 and 100 nm in Sa (roughness). This phenomenon is due to the transfer of friction mechanisms from abrasion to adhesion. Under wet test, COF always decreases with reduction in surface roughness. This result is mainly attributed to the existence of a thin layer of lubricant film that prevents the intimate contact of two articulating surfaces, thus greatly alleviating adhesion friction. Furthermore, surface texturing technology is successful in improving the corresponding tribological performance by decreasing friction force and mitigating surface deterioration. The even-distribution mode of texturing patterns is most suitable for artificial joints. By obtaining the optimal surface roughness and applying texturing technology, the tribological performance of polymer-based bioimplants can be greatly enhanced.

Serum folate status among blood donors in south-central China

Folate deficiency has been confirmed to be related to various diseases.Unfortunately,there are few reports on the folate status of Chinese adults.This study aims to evaluate the serum folate status of blood donors in south-central China.In this study,248 blood donors were included.The information on subjects was collected by a brief questionnaire concerning alcohol consumption habits,smoking habits,fruit and vegetable consumption and physical activity.The serum folate concentration was measured by electrochemiluminescence immunoassay.The geometric mean serum folate concentration was 13.4 nmoll-1(95%CI,12.7-14.1).The prevalence of serum folate concentrations below 6.8 nmoll-1 was 5.2%(95%CI,2.5-8.0).There were significant differences in serum folate concentrations with respect to sex(p-values<0.05),age(p-values<0.05),fruit and vegetable consumption(p-values<0.05),and alcohol consumption habits(p-values<0.05).The concentration of serum folate increased with age(p-values<0.05)and fruit and vegetable consumption(p-values<0.05).Individuals with an age of 30 years or younger were nearly 3.5 times as likely as those aged over 30 years to have an insufficient level of serum folate(OR=3.48;95%CI:1.01-11.99).An age of 30 years or younger was a risk factor for folate deficiency.Most blood donors had sufficient serum folate concentrations in south-central China.National surveys of folate status should be implemented in China.

Tribological Performance of Bioimplants: A Comprehensive Review

Total joint replacements(TJR) have been a huge success for orthopaedic surgery in the past century and are gaining increasing importance today due to the aging population. However, the short longevity of artificial joints is one of the major problems in bioimplant industry and needs to be rectified since an increasing number of young people, with more active lifestyles, must receive TJR. Wear mechanisms are discussed in this paper to describe the root causes of the failures and to give some general ideas to increase the lifespan of artificial joints. The suitable material combination is of great importance for the wear resistance of bioimplants, and bioceramics will exert a crucial effect in their future progress. Other materials, such as metal alloys and polymers, are also discussed in this paper. Surface finish is another factor affecting the tribological performance of bioimplants. In recent years, surface texture technology has fascinated many researchers, and a good design of texture pattern requires a comprehensive understanding of wear mechanisms, material properties, and dynamic fluid theory. This review also covers a summary of in vitro wear tests, including simulators, lubricant, and testing parameters.

汉代简牍文书誊录了一些印文内容,在文书作业的不同环节,各有特色。文书传行环节多数照实抄录,但有时简写印文或简述印文,比如机构和官称的省写,也有对印章责任人所做的描述性誊录,这些都以能准确辨识发文者为原则。西北地区简牍的收文记录则几乎完全照录印文,而长沙东汉简牍中的收文记录则由发文者事先写就,比印文内容更翔实。传的印文也会被关吏忠实记录下来。汉代公文书印文誊录,反映了地方行政事务责任落实到人,秉承灵活务实原则,其流程不断优化,更加简洁、高效等特征。
