Background: Thioacetamide (TAA) has been used extensively in the development of suitable animal models of acute and chronic liver injury employing various doses, times and routes of its administration, particularly in drinking water due to its resemblance with human liver fibrosis and cirrhosis. The aim of this study was to investigate and compare hematological alteration during the acute and chronic liver inflammation. Methods: Acute liver inflammation was induced in Wistar rats via intraperitoneal injection of thioacetamide and the animals were sacrificed 12 h after the TAA administration. Induction of chronic liver inflammation was performed by continuous administration of TAA in the drinking water (200 mg/l) during 18 weeks of experiment. After that all animals were sacrificed and Blood samples were collected for further analysis. Results: Single intra peritoneal injection of TAA (300 mg/kg B.W.) induced an acute condition with hematological changes including leukocytosis with marked neutrophilia (P = 0.0429), lymphopenia, thrombocytosis as well as increased hemoglobin concentration (P 0.05) and decline of erythrocytic count (P = 0.0009). Eighteen weeks of uninterrupted supply of TAA (200 mg/l) in drinking water lead to chronic inflammation and the hematological alterations were leucopenia (P = 0.0197) accompanied with neutropenia and thrombocytopenia. Increase in RBCs (P = 0.0073) and Hb contents was also observed with a decline of red cell indices. Conclusion: Taken together these findings we can conclude that the animals respond differently under acute and chronic inflammatory condition with TAA administration. leukocytosis with marked neutrophilia, thrombocytosis as well as increased hemoglobin concentration and decline of erythrocytic count were observed in acute while leucopenia accompanied with neutropenia and thrombocytopenia and increase in RBCs, Hb and Hct was also observed with a decline of other red cell indices during chronic phase.

Drinking water plays a major role regarding quality of human life because polluted water is the main cause of many types of diseases. Besides other pollutants, high concentration of uranium above a certain level in drinking water is also hazardous. As water and food are the main sources of uranium intake, it is absolutely imperative that their level of concentrations is monitored regularly for safety of the general public. In this regard, trace amount of uranium in drinking water samples collected from different locations of Faisalabadcity has been carried out using Neutron Induced Fission Track Technique. The water samples along with the standard of known uranium concentration were poured and dried over lexan track detectors and then irradiated with thermal neutrons in Reactor. After etching, the tracks produced in the detectors as a result of 235U (n, f) reaction were counted under an optical microscope. The uranium concentration was determined by counting and comparing the observed fission track density in the samples and the standard. The observed uranium concentration in the studied water samples varied from (1.04 ± 0.30) μg·l-1 to (21.08 ± 2. 95) μg·l-1 with an average value of (7.39 ± 1.30) μg·l-1 and is found to be within safe limits as far as uranium related health hazards are concerned.

Impact of Climate Change on Epidemiology of Various Pests of Wheat Crop in Punjab Pakistan

The bZIP transcription factor(TF) act as an important regulator in the abscisic acid(ABA) mediated abiotic stresses signaling pathways in plants. Here, we reported the cloning, characterization and transformation of GhA BF2, encoding for typical cotton bZIP TF. T5 generations were used for field experiment. Functional analysis showed that GhABF2 is a nuclear localized protein. Expression of GhA BF2 was strongly induced by drought and ABA treatments but repressed by high salinity. GhA BF2 overexpressing transgenic plants were significantly improved drought and salt stress tolerance both in Arabidopsis and cotton. Strikingly,manipulations of GhA BF2 led to extended number of fruiting branches and number of bolls, which significantly improved the cotton fiber yield in drought condition and saline-alkali wetland. Taken together, these data demonstrated that GhA BF2 plays an important role in drought and salt tolerance response and is an effective target for biotechnology of stress tolerance in cotton, thus illuminating a new strategy to improve cotton productivity under abiotic stress condition.

Wheat [Triticum aestivum l. (Poaceae)] is the staple diet of people in Pakistan. It is attacked by many types of pests. Therefore the purpose of this study was to assess the impact of climate change on the ecology and epidemiology of various wheat pests in Punjab, Pakistan. Results indicate that maximum weeds hot spots 242 (5.98%) Phalaris minor, 45 (1.18%) wild oat and 203 (5.01%) broad leaf weeds were noted in 2015. Aphid 31 (0.86%) hot spots were recorded in 2016 while maximum army worm 13 (0.26%) hot spots were noted in 2017. Maximum 70 (1.73%) spots of yellow rust and 85 (2.10%) hot spots of brown rust were observed during 2015 while 84 (4.16%) spots of loose smut were observed during 2017. ANOVA shows that years have no significant difference (P > 0.05) but weeks have significant effect on occurrence of these pest incidences except brown rust. But regression ANOVA was significant (P ≤ 0.05) and regression models equations have been developed on the bases of recorded data. Pest incidence was taken as dependent variable Y and weather factors i.e. minimum temperature as X1, maximum temperature as X2, relative humidity as X3 and rain fall as X4 were taken as independent variables. This study will help in recommendations for moving forward aiming at integration of biology of rust and smut diseases of wheat with changing climate for development of resistant varieties for resilient and durable management of these pathogens.

One of the main reasons behind reduced cane yield is pathetic method of planting. Planting method and row spacing are the most important yield contributing factors in sugarcane. A field experiment was carried out in order to determine quality and yield of sugarcane in various spatial arrangements. Treatments are 180 cm spaced trenches with triple row strips;180 cm spaced trenches with alternate row strips;120 cm spaced trenches with double row strips and 60 cm spaced furrow with single row. Perusal of data revealed that 3.6%, 13.4%, 15%, 15.3% more cane diameter (cm), cane length (cm), stripped cane yield (t·haˉ1), sugar yield (t·haˉ1) were obtained from 180 cm spaced trenches with triple row strips as compared to conventional planting method i.e. 60 cm spaced furrows. While the number of millable canes mˉ2, polarity %, cane juice purity %, cane juice %, commercial cane sugar % and cane sugar recovery % remained non-significant by different planting techniques.

背景：不同资料提示，2型糖尿病的某些病因有赖于患者性别，而内源性性激素可能在其中发挥着一定作用。举例而言，高水平的雄激素可增加女性发生2型糖尿病的风险，降低男性发生2型糖尿病的风险。目的：很多研究观测了血浆睾酮、性激素结合球蛋白（sexhormone-binding globulin，SHBG）以及雌二醇水平与2型糖尿病发病风险的关系，对这些相关研究进行系统评估。资料来源：采用关键词diabetes（糖尿病）、testosterone（睾酮）、sexhormone-binding globulin（性激素结合球蛋白）和estradiol（雌二醇）系统检索EMBASE和MEDlINE（1996年至2005年6月）收录的英文文献，检出文章的参考文献，并与作者直接联系。研究选取：在检出的80篇文献中发现43篇前瞻性、横断面研究，这些研究共纳入6974名女性和6427名男性，均提供了病例和对照的相对危险度（relative risks，RRs）或激素水平。数据提取：由两名研究者运用标准方案分别提取有关研究设计、参试者特征、激素水平和危险评估的资料。数据综合：采用随机效应和汇总回归分析、汇总研究结果。横断面研究显示，与对照组（平均差异，6．1rig／dl；95％可信区间[confidenceinterval，CI]，2．3-10．1）相比，2型糖尿病男性患者睾酮水平显著下降（平均差异，-76．6ng／dl；95％CI，-99．4-53．6），而2型糖尿病女性患者睾酮水平升高，性别间的差异具有显著性（P〈0．001）。前瞻性研究还发现，睾酮水平较高的男性发生2型糖尿病的风险可下降42％（RR，0．58；95％CI，0．39—0．87），睾酮水平升高可增加女性患2型糖尿病的风险（性别差异P=0．06）。前瞻性横断面研究发现，与男性相比，SHBG更能有效保护女性，避免后者发生2型糖尿病（性别差异P≤0．01）。前瞻性研究显示，SHBG水平较高的女性其2型糖尿病的患病风险可下降80％（RR，0．20；95％CI，0．12—0．30），而SHBG水平较高的男性其患病风险可下降52％（RR，0．48；95％CI，0．33—0．69）。与对照组相比，糖尿病男性患者和绝经后女性患者雌二醇水平明显升高（P=0．007）。结论：该系统综述表明，内源性性激素可能在特异性调节糖代谢状态和2型糖尿病发病风险方面存在性别差异。睾酮水平升高可增加女性患2型糖尿病的风险，可降低男性患2型糖尿病的风险；SHBG水平与2型糖尿病发病风险呈负相关，女性的相关程度比男性密切。

Indian mustard (Brassica juncea l.) germplasm consisting 167 accessions including one check cultivar was evaluated for qualitative and quantitative traits. The present study was conducted to investigate genetic diversity and correlation among studied genotypes of B. juncea l. based on agro-morphological at NARC, Islamabad, Pakistan. To investigate the genetic diversity based on morphological characters, data was recorded on 20 quantitative and 12 qualitative traits. The calculated data was analyzed through two complementary methods, i.e. PCA (Principal Component Analysis) and cluster analysis. Among all the studied cultivars, significant diversity was recorded for different agro-morphological characters. Among all the parameters, maximum variance was recorded for pod shattering (427.2) followed by plant height (345.6), days to 100% flowering (336.2) and main raceme length (210.0). Among all the characters, the greatest and highly significant association (0.99) was found between days to maturity 50% and days to maturity 100% followed by correlation (0.86) among days to flowering 50% and days to flowering 100%, correlation value (0.71) was calculated among leaf length and leaf width. Using cluster analysis all the genotypes were divided into five major groups. It was observed that 7 out of 20 principal components with an Eigen value of ≥1.0 calculated for 73.92% of the total diversity observed between 167 accessions of Indian mustard (B. juncea l.). The contribution of first three PCs in the total PCs was 23.25, 12.87 and 11.24, respectively. Among all the investigated accessions two genotypes 26,813 and 26,817 showed great potential for seeds/silique, 1000-seed weight and seed yield/plant, respectively, so these genotypes are recommended for future breeding programs for achieving promising results.
