The information society depends increasingly on risk assessment and management systems as means to adequately protect its key information *** availability of these systems is now vital for the protection and evolution of ***,several factors have led to an increasing need for more accurate risk analysis *** are:the speed at which technologies evolve,their global impact and the growing requirement for companies to *** analysis processes must consequently adapt to these new circumstances and new technological *** objective of this paper is,therefore,to present the results of an exhaustive analysis of the techniques and methods offered by the scientific community with the aim of identifying their main weaknesses and providing a new risk assessment and management *** analysis was carried out using the systematic review protocol and found that these proposals do not fully meet these new *** paper also presents a summary of MARISMA,the risk analysis and management framework designed by our research *** basis of our framework is the main existing risk standards and proposals,and it seeks to address the weaknesses found in these *** is in a process of continuous improvement,as is being applied by customers in several European and American *** consists of a risk data management module,a methodology for its systematic application and a tool that automates the process.

Nature and evolution of the lower crust under central Spain:Inferences from granulite xenoliths(Calatrava Volcanic Field-Spanish central system)

So far,the nature and evolution of the lower crust under central Spain have been constrained mainly on the basis of a heterogeneous suite of granulite xenoliths from the Spanish Central System(SCS).In recent years,ultramafic volcanics from the Calatrava Volcanic Field(CVF)have also provided deep-seated crustal xenoliths which have not been studied in *** data,combining mineral,whole-rock and isotopic geochemistry with U–Pb–Hf isotope ratios in zircons from the CVF and SCS xenoliths,highlight the felsic composition of the lower crust under central Iberia.A number of the Calatrava xenoliths represents Variscan igneous protoliths,which are a minor population in the SCS,and were likely formed by crystallisation of intermediate and felsic melts in the lower crust during the Variscan orogeny(leucodiorite protolith age of 314±3 Ma and leucogranite protolith age of 308±2.5 Ma).U–Pb data of metamorphic zircons show that granulite-facies metamorphism mainly occurred from 299 to 285 Ma in both *** ages are slightly younger than those of granitic intrusions that could be genetically related to the granulitic residue,which points to a main role of U–Pb isotope resetting in lower crustal zircons during HT or UHT *** zircon U–Pb–Hf isotopic ratios support the idea that the lower crust in central Iberia consists mainly of Ordovician–Neoproterozoic metaigneous and metasedimentary rocks associated with the Cadomian continental arc of northern *** rocks provide evidence of mixing between juvenile magmas and an enriched crustal component,ultimately extracted from an Eburnean *** more evolved components present in detrital zircons are likely related to recycling of Archean crust derived from North Africa cratonic terranes.

Nutrient drink test: A promising new tool for irritable bowel syndrome diagnosis

BACKGROUND Irritable bowel syndrome(IBS) is a highly prevalent condition. It is diagnosed on the basis of chronic symptoms after the clinical and/or investigative exclusion of organic diseases that can cause similar symptoms. There is no reproducible noninvasive test for the diagnosis of IBS, and this raises diagnostic uncertainty among physicians and hinders acceptance of the diagnosis by *** gastrointestinal(GI) syndromes often present with overlapping upper and lower GI tract symptoms, now believed to be generated by visceral hypersensitivity. This study examines the possibility that, in IBS, a nutrient drink test(NDT) provokes GI symptoms that allow a positive differentiation of these patients from healthy *** To evaluate the NDT for the diagnosis of *** This prospective case-control study compared the effect of two different nutrient drinks on GI symptoms in 10 IBS patients(patients) and 10 healthy controls(controls). The 500 kcal high nutrient drink and the low nutrient 250 kcal drink were given in randomized order on separate days. Symptoms were assessed just before and at several time points after drink ingestion. Global dyspepsia and abdominal scores were derived from individual symptom data recorded by two questionnaires designed by our group, the upper and the general GI symptomquestionnaires, respectively. Psycho-social morbidity and quality of life were also formally assessed. The scores of patients and controls were compared using single factor analysis of variance *** At baseline, IBS patients compared to controls had significantly higher levels of GI symptoms such as gastro-esophageal reflux(P = 0.05), abdominal pain(P =0.001), dyspepsia(P = 0.001), diarrhea(P = 0.001), and constipation(P = 0.001) as well as higher psycho-social morbidity and lower quality of life. BACKGROUND Blink and masseter reflexes provide reliable,quantifiable data on the function of the central nervous system:Delayed latencies have been found in patients with neurocognitive disorder(ND)and type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM),but this has not been studied in patients with both *** To investigate if older adults with ND plus T2DM have prolonged latencies of blink and masseter-reflex and if they were associated with disease *** This cross-sectional study included 227 older adults(>60 years)from Colima,*** disorder was identified by a neuropsychological battery test,and T2DM identified by medical history,fasting glucose,and glycosylated *** in the early reflex(R1),ipsilateral late(R2),and contralateral late(R2c)components of the blink reflex were analyzed for all subjects,and 183 subjects were analyzed for latency of the masseter *** In 20.7%of participants,ND was *** 37%,T2DM was *** in R1,R2,and R2c were significantly prolonged for groups with ND plus T2DM,ND,and T2DM,compared with the control group(P<0.0001).The masseter reflex was only prolonged in older adults(regardless of T2DM status)with ND vs controls(P=0.030).In older adults with ND and without T2DM,the more the cognitive impairment progressed,the more prolonged latencies in R2 and R2c presented(P<0.01).CONCLUSION These findings suggest that blink and masseter reflexes could be used to evaluate possible changes in brainstem circuits in older adults with ND and T2DM.

Marfan’s syndrome (MFS) is an autosomal dominant disorder characterized by aortic root dilation, mitral valve prolapse and aortic regurgitation. The typical aneurysm location involves the thoracic aorta (60%). Thoracoabdominal aortic dissections are quite infrequent (10%). A type A aortic dissection can have fatal complications, such as aortic rupture and cardiac tamponade, and a prompt diagnosis is crucial. The present case involves a 46-year-old patient with Marfan’s syndrome who was admitted to the emergency department for dyspnea. The patient presented congestive signs and manifestations suggesting acute heart failure. An initial transthoracic echocardiogram (TTE) showed ventricular hypertrophy and diastolic dysfunction. Additionally, TTE showed plurivalvular regurgitation, pulmonary hypertension (42 mmHg), aortic dilatation, and a dissection flap. Coronary computed tomography angiography (CCTA) was performed, confirming the suspicion of ascending aortic dissection. The patient underwent a three-stage intervention for the repair of all the defects, with adequate recovery. This was a rare presentation of aortic dissection in MFS, which was a diagnostic challenge for the heart team.

Extraction of Carotenoids and Fatty Acids from Microalgae Using Supercritical Technology

The work described here is based on a comparative study of carotenoids and fatty acids extracted from Synechococcus sp. with (1) pure supercritical CO2, (2) CO2 with 5% (v/v) ethanol as cosolvent and (3) ultrasound-assisted extraction using N, N-dimethylformamide (DMF). The effects of extraction conditions on supercritical CO2 extraction with and within cosolvent were analyzed at different temperatures (40℃, 50℃ and 60℃) and pressures (200, 300 and 400 bars). SFE with CO2 proved to be the most selective method for the extraction of β-carotene, but under these conditions the contents of zeaxanthin and fatty acids were only comparable to or lower than those obtained with techniques that use SFE cosolvent. The SFE technique with CO2 and ethanol simultaneously extracted β-carotene and zeaxanthin and not only increased the concentrations of fatty acids obtained, but also helped to remove fatty acids (palmitoleic and linolenic acid) that were not obtained with pure CO2. Comparison of the supercritical technology with the ultrasound-assisted extraction (UAE) shows that the former technique is the most appropriate due to the fact that ethanol is generally regarded as a safe solvent in comparison to DMF.

An Opportunistic Pantoea sp. Isolated from a Cotton Fleahopper That Is Capable of Causing Cotton (<i>Gossypium hirsutum</i>L.) Bud Rot

Pantoea ananatis (serrano) representatives are known to have a broad host range including both humans and plants. The cotton fleahopper (Pseudatomoscelis seriatus, Reuter) is a significant pest that causes cotton bud damage that may result in significant yield losses. In this study, a bacterial strain previously isolated from a fleahopper was tested for cotton infectivity using simulated insect feeding. In addition, cotton fleahoppers collected from the field were raised on green beans in the laboratory to test the insects’ capacity to vector cotton pathogens. Adult insects were then caged with greenhouse grown cotton buds. Buds that remained or abscised from the plants following feeding by the insect consistently showed necrosis of the ovary including the wall. A collection of bacterial isolates from both caged insects and diseased buds was analyzed using carbon utilization and enzyme production tests, fatty acid methyl ester profile analysis, and by cloning and sequencing 16S RNA genes. Results showed that the majority of the isolates were best classified as P. ananatis. Upon simulated fleahopper feeding (i.e., penetrative inoculation), the fleahopper isolate rotted cotton buds. These results indicated the fleahoppers are vectors of opportunistic P. ananatis strains causing loss of the cotton fruiting structures.
