Dr. Gold has worked in this field since the early 1970s. since that time, the United states’ leading causes of death are still related to alcohol and drug use, tobacco smoke exposure, and behavioral addictions. Each year, more than 400,000 Americans die as a result of smoking, overeating, substance use, and related accidents and suicide. There are notable advances in the treatment of addiction disorders. Animal models have improved and research is currently ongoing with addicted rats. In addition, advances in neurobiology and imaging, proteomics, nanotechnology, pharmacology, and behavioral research have impacted the addiction field. several components of the neurological reward system (eg, the nucleus accumbens, the ventral tegmental area, and the neurotransmitters (particularly dopamine)) have been implicated in addiction. similarly, morphine, cannabis, nicotine, and ethanol administration result in increased dopamine release in the nucleus accumbens. In addition, the brain’s endogenous opioid and cannabinoid systems, within the pathway connecting the ventral tegmental area and the nucleus accumbens, are activated by several drugs of abuse. Increased glutamate release in the pathway connecting the prelimbic cortex to the accumbens is associated with drug- seeking behavior. Research findings indicate that individual differences in sensitivity to substances of abuse may be affected by developmental factors such as when the person begins using drugs and dosage. Developmental neurobiology, genetic factors and early environmental factors, all appear critical. several pharmacological interventions for the treatment of addiction and the prevention of relapse target these systems and their receptors. Findings from recent studies indicate that drug effects are long-lasting and recovery is slow and difficult. Drug dependence appears to be related to changes and dysregulation of the reward system and stress system. Many persons with substance abuse actually choose to change

＜正＞ Thermoelastic stress analysis is used to obtain the stress concentration factors （sCFs） from a variety of circular holes in cylinders. The cylinders are loaded in uniaxial tension, uniaxial compression and a combination of bending and compression. Firstly radial holes are investigated and the results from the thermoelastic data obtained by the sPATE equipment are compared to previous experimental and numerical work. sCFs are then obtained from offset, oblique and offset-oblique holes using the Deltatherm system. The effect of hole obliquity and direction of applied load relative to the hole geometry is discussed.

＜正＞The true nature of the giant cell reparative granuloma is unknown. Giant cell lesions of jaws are not totally different entities from giant cell tumors. An 18-year-old male patient presented with an asymptomatic soft-tissue mass involving the right mandibular body. Panoramic radiograph demonstrated a lesion in the right mandibular body measured 3x3cm. Chest radiograph was normal.

Malaria incidence in urban areas has generally been low compared to rural areas but recent data indicate that urban malaria remains a public health problem. It is therefore important to understand the factors that promote urban malaria to help formulate future vector control strategies. This study compared Anopheles gambiae s.l. (A. gambiae s.l.) species composition, distribution and insecticide resistance mechanisms between vegetable and non-vegetable growing areas in Accra Metropolis. Four sites were selected within the city of Accra which comprised of two vegetable-growing and two non-vegetable growing areas. WHO susceptibility tests were carried out on adults A. gambiae s.l. reared from larvae collected from the sites. Five insecticides were tested and the A. gambiae complex, resistance genotypes and enzyme activities of each population were characterized. All A. gambiae s.l. populations tested were resistant to all the insecticides, but relatively lower mortalities were observed in the vegetable growing areas. The mortality against 0.05% deltamethrin was 2.6% (Opeibea) and 12.5% (Korle-Bu) for the vegetable growing areas and 36.2% (Achimota) and 38.9% (Mataheko) in the non-vegetable growing areas. Anopheles gambiae s.s. (95% of Opeibea population) and Anopheles coluzzii, (98% of Korle-Bu population) were the dominant species in the vegetable growing areas. The voltage-gated sodium channel (Vgsc-1014F) frequencies of all the populations were similar but the acetylcholinesterase (ace-1) frequencies were significantly lower (p A. gambiae s.l. from Opeibea than from the other areas. The contribution of urban agriculture in the development of insecticide resistance needs to be considered in the formulation of future vector control strategies alongside other domestic usages.

Electromagnetic properties of the Pc(4312) pentaquark state

Using the light-cone QCD sum rules,we evaluate the magnetic moment of the P_c(4312) pentaquark state by considering both the \bar D\sigma_c molecular and diquark-diquark-antiquark state,with quantum numbers j^P=2/1^(-1).In the calculations,we use the diquark-diquark-antiquark and molecular form of the interpolating currents for the P_(c4312) pentaquark and the distribution amplitudes of the *** numerical results for the magnetic moment obtained using the two different pictures are quite different from each other,which can be used to pin down the underlying structure of P_(c4312) .Any experimental measurement of the magnetic moment in the near future will provide an understanding of the internal structure of this pentaquark state.

The sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015–2030 underlines the importance of science and Technology(s&T) and s&T networks for effective disaster risk reduction(DRR). The knowledge of existing s&T networks and their exact role in DRR,however, is limited. This opinion piece initiates a discussion on the role of s&T networks in the implementation of the sendai Framework. The article highlights that current practice is oriented towards a narrative that emphasizes the potential of s&T for DRR and stresses a collaborative approach delivered through networks. But a true understanding of whether and how s&T networks can mobilize and enable s&T for DRR is missing. We call for a review of existing s&T networks for DRR and the development of good practice guidelines on s&T networks for DRR. This review should include knowledge on how to overcome common challenges and maximize the benefits, along with a framework for successful evaluation of such *** knowledge would provide much needed guidance for existing and emerging networks.

Overexpression of OGFr Downregulates Ovarian Cancer Cell Proliferation In Vitroand Inhibits Tumorigenesis

The opioid growth factor (OGF) and its receptor (OGFr) regulate human ovarian cancer cell proliferation through a tonically active inhibitory axis. We investigated the effect of OGFr overexpression on ovarian tumorigenesis. Clonal cell lines of sKOV-3 human ovarian cancer were established to stably overexpress OGFr. shRNA constructs were evaluated for antitumor activity in vitro, as well as in vivo using mouse models of s.c. and i.p. tumor transplantation. The 5 clonal cell lines were characterized by increases in OGFr protein (62% to 245%) and binding capacity (51% - 154%), and decreases (36% - 185%) in cell number, relative to untransfected wild-type (WT) cells and empty vector (EV) transfected clones. Nude mice receiving s.c. injection of 2 overexpressing OGFr cell lines (OGFr-3 and OGFr-22) had reduced tumor incidence, delayed tumor appearance (up to 12 days), and decreased tumor volume (up to 87%) relative to WT and EV controls. Mice injected i.p. with these clonal lines displayed reduced formation of tumor nodules (up to 95%), and depressed tumor weights (up to 99%) compared to WT and EV groups. DNA synthesis, but not cell survival, was depressed in cells and s.c. tumors overexpressing OGFr in comparison to the WT and EV groups. Angiogenesis was reduced up to 86% in clonal tumors compared to WT and EV groups. This preclinical evidence demonstrates that OGFr expression is a molecular determinant of ovarian cancer progression, and has important relevance to understanding the pathogenesis and treatment of this deadly disease.

＜正＞The aim of this paper is to use the thermoelastic stress analysis （TsA） technique to determine the load transfer mechanisms in sandwich construction tee joints, which have been environmentally aged, and to assess how their performance has changed with respect to the unaged case. An extensive literature review has shown that although a wealth of information exists on the long-term performance of FRP materials exposed to hygrothermal environments, the behaviour of aged composite sandwich structures has not been addressed. The purpose of this work is to begin to fill this void.
