Amine functionalization on thermal and mechanical behaviors of graphite nanofibers-loaded epoxy composites

With the growing demand for faster and more powerful computing,effective heat dissipation is essential to ensure the longevity,reliability,and high performance of electronic systems.In the field of modern electronic packaging materials,there is a great need for graphitic material-loaded polymeric composites(GPCs)with excellent thermal conductivities.However,the enhancement efficiency of GPCs is hindered by the agglomeration of fillers and the interfacial thermal resistance caused by the lack of continuous thermally conductive pathways between the filler and matrix.Understanding the interfaces between filler and matrix is of great importance in optimizing the performances of GPCs.Here,we fabricated graphite nanofibers(GNF)-loaded nanocomposites using acid-functionalized GNF(AGNF)and acidtetraethylenepentamine-functionalized(TGNF)as a filler and epoxy resin as a matrix with different GNF loading contents to explore the interfacial properties of the nanocomposites.The optimal GNF loading for AGNF was 0.5 wt.%,while the TGNF showed 0.75 wt.%.The highest thermal conductivity(0.51 W m^(−1) K^(−1))and fracture toughness(25.8 MPa m^(1/2))values were found in the TGNF-loaded nanocomposites with a fraction of 0.75 wt.%,representing enhancements of∼145%and∼400%,respectively,compared to those of neat nanocomposites.The experimental data presented herein demonstrate that the interfacial properties play a significant role in enhancing the thermal and mechanical performances of the nanocomposites.The present approach is expected to serve as a valuable tool in the design of conductive polymeric nanocomposites for further practical applications,such as thermal interface materials and packaging of high-power electric devices.

PPARγis a peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor(PPAR)family protein and is a target for type 2 diabetes(T2D).In this paper,we have performed a molecular docking analysis between ligand molecules(CID9816265,CID11608015,CID20251380,CID20251343,CID20556263,CID624491,CID42609928,and CID86287562)and PPARγto determine the ligand specificity.It also helps to understand the ligand-binding domain(LBD)activity of PPARγduring the binding of the ligand.Further,a molecular dynamics simulation study was performed to determine the ligand biding stability in the PPARγLBD.Its ligand specificity informed us about the potentiality of selecting a partial agonist.The study also shows the binding conformation of Ceramicine B having hydrogen bonding affinity with a tricyclic polar head and stabilized theβ-sheet region.On the other hand,the tricyclic polar head of nimbolide also formed hydrogen bonding(Ser342),but it shows a lesser degree of stabilization in theβ-sheet region.It shows the binding conformation of partial agonist(PPARγ)in the Pocket-II of PPARγLBD,which has a significant role in stabilizing theβ-sheet region.It might help to regulate ERK/Cdk5 mediated phosphorylation of Ser245.The study helps us understand the valid pose of a set of ligands confirmation and target protein conformation using docking and molecular dynamics study.This in silico study will also help to initiate a drug discovery process of T2D.

Hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC) is one of major causes of cancer mortality worldwide. For decades, ^(18)F-fluorodeoxyglucose(FDG) positron emission tomography(PET) has been widely used for staging, predicting prognosis, and detecting cancer recurrence in various types of malignant diseases. Due to low sensitivity of FDG PET for detecting intrahepatic HCC lesions, the clinical value of FDG PET in HCC patients has been limited. However, recent studies with diverse analytic methods have shown that FDG PET has promising role in aiding management of HCC patients. In this review, we will discuss the clinical role of FDG PET for staging, predicting prognosis, and evaluating treatment response in HCC. Further, we will focus on recent clinical studies regarding implication of volumetric FDG PET parameters, the significance of FDG uptake in HCC for selecting treatment and predicting treatment response, and the use of radiomics of FDG PET in HCC.

Ebola virus disease(EVD)is associated with haemorrhagic fever in humans and nonhuman primates,with a high rate of fatality(up to 90%).Some outbreaks in human history have proven the lethality of EVD.The recent epidemic of 2014 and 2015 in West Africa was the deadliest of all time(11 284 deaths).To understand the transmission dynamics,we have reviewed the epidemiology of EVD to date.The absence of any licensed vaccines or approved drugs against Ebola virus(EBOV)further highlights the severity and crisis level of EVD.Some organizations(public and private)are making considerable efforts to develop novel therapeutic approaches or vaccines to contain the outbreak of EBOV shortly.Here,we summarized the various potential drugs and vaccines(undergoing multiple phases of clinical trials)that have arisen as an alternative against EBOV,and we highlighted the numerous issues and limitations hindering this process.Alternatively,an increasing focus on strengthening the medical and civic health structure could provide speedy benefits in containing the spread of EVD,as well as offer a resilient foundation for the deployment of novel drugs and vaccines to the affected countries,once such drugs and vaccines become available.

Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2),a novel coronavirus(CoV),has recently emerged as a significant pathogen for humans and the cause for the recent outbreak of the 2019 novel coronavirus disease(COVID-19)throughout the globe.For developing any preventive measure,an understanding of the zoonotic pattern for this virus is a necessity.We should have a clear knowledge of its reservoir host,its distribution pattern and spreading routes.Information about zoonotic reservoirs and its transmission among them can help to understand the COVID-19 outbreaks.In this article,we discuss about the bats as the zoonotic reservoir of several CoV strains,co-existence of bats and CoV/viruses,the sequence similarity of SARS-CoV-2 with bat SARS-like CoV,the probable source of the origin of SARS-CoV-2 strain and COVID-19 outbreak,intermediate host of CoVs and SARS-CoV-2,human to human transmission and the possibility to maintain the zoonotic barriers.Our knowledge about the zoonotic reservoir of SARS-CoV-2 and its transmission ability may help develop the preventive measures and control for the future outbreak of CoV.

Incidence, prevalence and risk of stroke in patients with Takayasu arteritis: a nationwide population-based study in South Korea

Background Takayasu arteritis(TAK)is a disease associated with increased risk of cardiovascular complications.We aimed to evaluate the incidence,prevalence and risk of stroke in patients with TAK.Methods Data from 1065 patients were obtained from a national database(2010–2018).The annual incidence and prevalence per 100000 persons were estimated using the registration population in the midst of every year,and the standardised incidence ratio(SIR)of stroke was compared with the general population based on the data from the 2006 national report for cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases.Age-adjusted incidence rate ratio(IRR)of stroke based on the time interval after diagnosis was also calculated.A time-dependent Cox regression was conducted to investigate predictive factors of stroke.Results The overall incidence rate of TAK ranged between 0.2 and 0.3/100000 person-years annually;the prevalence of TAK gradually increased,reaching 3.25/100000 person-years in 2018.Seventy-three(6.9%)patients experienced stroke during follow-up,and the risk of developing stroke was higher than the general population(overall SIR 7.39,95%CI 5.79 to 9.29;men:SIR 5.70,95%CI 2.84 to 10.20;women:SIR 7.06,95%CI 5.41 to 9.05).Most stroke events(90.9%)were cerebral infarction for men,whereas the proportion of cerebral infarction was lower(62.9%)in women.Over half of stroke events occurred within 6 months after diagnosis,and stroke was more common within 6 months of diagnosis compared with after 3 years in women(IRR 13.46,95%CI 6.86 to 26.40).In Cox regression analysis,age was the sole predictor of stroke(adjusted HR 1.02,95%CI 1.00 to 1.04,p=0.043).Conclusions The annual incidence of TAK was similar to the previous studies from Asia,and the risk of stroke increased in TAK.Different patterns of subtype and incidence of stroke were found according to sex,although age was the only predictor.

Going beyond an improved colour gamut,an asymmetric colour contrast,which depends on the viewing direction,and its ability to readily deliver information could create opportunities for a wide range of applications,such as nextgeneration optical switches,colour displays,and security features in anti-counterfeiting devices.Here,we propose a simple Fabry–Perot etalon architecture capable of generating viewing-direction-sensitive colour contrasts and encrypting pre-inscribed information upon immersion in particular solvents(optical camouflage).Based on the experimental verification of the theoretical modelling,we have discovered a completely new and exotic optical phenomenon involving a tuneable colour switch for viewing-direction-dependent information delivery,which we define as asymmetric optical camouflage.

The severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2)infection leads to a severe respiratory illness and alters the gut microbiota,which dynamically interacts with the human immune system.Microbiota alterations include decreased levels of beneficial bacteria and augmentation of opportunistic pathogens.Here,we describe critical factors affecting the microbiota in coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)patients.These include,such as gut microbiota imbalance and gastrointestinal symptoms,the pattern of altered gut microbiota composition in COVID-19 patients,and crosstalk between the microbiome and the gut-lung axis/gut-brain-lung axis.Moreover,we have illustrated the hypoxia state in COVID-19 associated gut microbiota alteration.The role of ACE2 in the digestive system,and control of its expression using the gut microbiota is discussed,highlighting the interactions between the lungs,the gut,and the brain during COVID-19 infection.Similarly,we address the gut microbiota in elderly or co-morbid patients as well as gut microbiota dysbiosis of in severe COVID-19.Several clinical trials to understand the role of probiotics in COVID-19 patients are listed in this review.Augmented inflammation is one of the major driving forces for COVID-19 symptoms and gut microbiome disruption and is associated with disease severity.However,understanding the role of the gut microbiota in immune modulation during SARS-CoV-2 infection may help improve therapeutic strategies for COVID-19 treatment.

Endoscopic ultrasonography-guided trucut biopsy for the preoperative diagnosis of peripancreatic castleman's disease: A case report

Castleman's disease (CD) of the pancreas/peripancreas is extremely rare. The recently introduced, endoscopic ultrasonography (EUS)-guided trucut biopsy (TCB) is a useful diagnostic modality for obtaining tissue samples from peripancreatic lesions. However, its role in diagnosing CD remains unknown. We report a case of localized, peripancreatic, hyaline-vascular CD biopsied using EUS. The pathology results were initially interpreted as an extranodal, marginal-zone B-cell lymphoma. However, polymerase chain reaction (PCR) study for the IgH gene rearrangement revealed a polyclonal pattern. We also reviewed the relevant literature. To our knowledge, this is the first illustrated report on EUS-TCB findings of CD with its pathology results of EUS-TCB mimicked a B-cell lymphoma.

Synthesis of tin nanoparticles through modified polyol process and effects of centrifuging and drying on nanoparticles

Sn nanoparticles with average diameter of 13.1 nm were synthesized by modified polyol process,and their melting point was observed to be about 40 °C less than that of bulk Sn.Even though Sn nanoparticles are solid and covered with thin PVP capping and oxide layer,Sn nanoparticles in solution agglomerate upon centrifugation,resulting in a melting point increase.Owing to stickiness of the PVP capping layer,extensive aggregation between Sn nanoparticles was observed after drying.However,the aggregation behavior did not further influence the melting point,because actual agglomeration did not occur in the aggregates.
