Remote sensing of solar-induced chlorophyll fluorescence(sIF)provides new possibilities to estimate terrestrial gross primary production(GPP).To mitigate the angular and canopy structural effects on original sIF observed by sensors(sIF_(obs)),it is recommended to derive total canopy sIF _(emission)(sIF_(total))of leaves within a canopy using canopy interception(i0)and reflectance of vegetation(R_(V)).However,the effects of the uncertainties in i_(0) and R_(V) on the estimation of sIFtotal have not been well ***,we evaluated such effects on the estimation of GPP using the soil-Canopy-Observation of Photosynthesis and the Energy balance(sCOPE)*** sCOPE simulations showed that the R^(2) between GPP and sIF_(total) was clearly higher than that between GPP and sIFobs and the differences in R^(2)(ΔR^(2))tend to decrease with the increasing levels of uncertainties in i_(0) and *** resultantΔR^(2) decreased to zero when the uncertainty level in i0 and RV was~30%for red band sIF(RsIF,683 nm)and~20%for far-red band sIF(FRsIF,740 nm).In addition,as compared to the TROPOspheric monitoring Instrument(TROPOmI)sIFobs at both red and far-red bands,sIF_(total) derived using any combination of i_(0)(from mCD15,VNP15,and CGLs LAI products)and RV(from mCD34,mCD19,and VNP43 BRDF products)showed comparable improvements in estimating *** this study,we suggest a way to advance our understanding in the estimation of a more physiological relevant sIF datasets(sIF_(total))using current satellite products.

La_(0.7)Ca_(0.3)mnO_(3)(LCmO)thin films have been grown on mgO substrate using the metal organic deposition *** lattice mismatch between LCmO and mgO is relatively large around 8.14% imposing large inplane-tensile strain and out-of-plane-compressive strain on the *** the structural,microstructural and electrical properties have been found to be strongly correlated to the strain degree and ***-section transmission electron microscopy observations demonstrate the presence of microstructural defects due to the large lattice mismatch between the LCmO and *** addition to structural and microstructural defects,X-ray diffraction and Raman spectroscopy measurements show the existence of a minor phase of mnO in the *** versus temperature measurement show a relatively low Curie temperature around 75 *** electrical behavior is found to be semiconducting over a large temperature *** electrical transport mechanisms have been investigated using the small polaron hopping and variable range hopping models and correlated to their microstructural properties.

Functionalization of carbon nanotube yarn by acid treatment

Carbon nanotube(CNT)yarn was functionalized using sulfuric and nitric acid solutions in 3:1 volumetric *** functionalization of CNT yarn with carboxyl and hydroxyl groups(e.g.,COOH,COO–,OH,etc.)was confirmed by attenuated total reflectance spectroscopy.X-ray diffraction revealed no significant change to the atomic in-plane alignment in the CNTs;however,the coherent length along the diameter was significantly reduced during functionalization.A morphology change of wavy extensions protruding from the surface was observed after the functionalization *** force required to fracture the yarn remained the same after the functionalization process;however,the linear density was increased(310%).The increase in linear density after functionalization reduced the ***,the resistivity density product of the CNT yarn was reduced significantly(234%)after functionalization.

Paddy fields play an important role in global carbon(C) cycling and are an important source of methane(CH_(4)) emissions. Insights into the processes influencing the dynamics of soil organic C(sOC) in paddy fields are essential for maintaining global soil C stocks and mitigating climate change. Periphytic biofilms composed of microalgae, bacteria, and other microorganisms are ubiquitous in paddy fields, where they directly mediate the transfer of elements at the soil-water interface. However, their contributions to C turnover and exchange have been largely neglected. Periphytic biofilms affect and participate in soil C dynamics by altering both abiotic(e.g., pH and redox potential) and biotic conditions(e.g., microbial community composition and metabolism). This review summarizes the contributions of periphytic biofilms to soil C cycling processes, including carbon dioxide fixation, sOC mineralization, and CH_(4) emissions. Future research should be focused on: i) the mechanisms underlying periphytic biofilm-induced C fixation and turnover and ii) quantifying the contributions of periphytic biofilms to soil C uptake, stabilization, and sequestration in paddy fields.

Platinum recovery from dilute platinum solutions using activated carbon

Platinum adsorption on activated carbon,a common adsorbent,from dilute platinum-containing solution of 57.6 mg/L was *** effects of different adsorption parameters on the platinum adsorption were reported in *** percentage of platinum adsorption increased with increasing the amount of adsorbent,as well as with increasing contact time and temperature.A platinum adsorption of 75% was obtained using 400 mg of activated carbon at a shaking rate of 200 r/min for 3 h at 25 ℃.A platinum adsorption of 88%,however,was obtained at 80 ℃ using 200 mg of activated carbon within only 1 h,which indicates that temperature plays a vital role in the adsorption process.A platinum adsorption of 99% or above was attained using 400 mg of activated carbon after contact for 3 h at 80 ℃.

Dynamic simulation of beam-like structure with a crack subjected to a random moving mass oscillator

In this paper, dynamic simulation of a beam-like structure with a transverse open crack subjected to a random moving mass oscillator is investigated. The simultaneous effect of a crack and a random oscillator has not been addressed up to now. The crack in the beam at different locations and with different depths is considered as one group of damage, each as an individual imperfection. In addition, bearing immobility is considered as another type of problem in the beam. mass, stiffness, damping and velocity of the oscillator are assumed to be random parameters. An improved perturbation technique is applied to reduce the simulation time. It was found that there is a maximum value of the variance of each uncertain parameter, in which the maximum reliability of the perturbation method can be achieved, and that this maximum value can be obtained by the Alpha-Hilber monte-Carlo simulation method. The simulation results reveal that the mass and the velocity uncertainty cause high uncertainty in the deflection of the beam. Also, the pattern of the deflection is not affected by different random oscillator parameters, and as a result, the type of damage can be identified even with high uncertainty. moreover, the deflection in the nodes around the mid-span of the beam provides the best information regarding the imperfections, and consequently leads to the best sensor locations in an actual experiment.

Laboratory results of a 3rd generation roof bolter canopy air curtain for respirable coal mine dust control

Testing was completed on an earlier roof bolter CAC that used slots to provide a perimeter airflow. NIOsH tested it due to its unique design that differed from canopies that provided uniform airflow. Based upon NIOsH recommendations from the earlier testing, a 3rd generation roof bolter CAC has been developed by J.H. Fletcher & Co. The changes to this CAC involve design modifications to the plenum outlets, using a single row of outlets on the perimeter and a different material for the plenum. This laboratory testing was a continuation of the original perimeter slotted CAC design. Using gravimetric and instantaneous sampling of respirable dust concentrations underneath and outside of the CAC. the laboratory testing was completed using three different blower fans that delivered differing airflows. The maximum plenum airflow velocities ranged from 2.34 to 3.64 m/s (460-716 fpm). Results showed plenum respirable dust concentrations ranging from 34.6% to 49.3% lower than respirable dust concentrations outside the plenum protection zone, thus showing an improvement in protection for the roof bolter operators.

Introduction: In serodiscordant couples, sharing serostatus is a crucial step in the HIV risk management process. The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence and factors associated with serostatus sharing among HIV serodiscordant couples in the city of Parakou. setting and methods: This study was carried out in the city of Parakou, capital of northern Benin. It was a descriptive, analytical cross-sectional study with non-probability sampling for convenience. socio-demographic data, as well as data on antecedents, behaviours, social and marital life, were collected using a questionnaire gave to the participants. Clinical and therapeutic data were collected from patients’ medical records and follow-up charts. Data were analyzed and processed using R 4.3.1 software. The significance level was set at 5%, and logistic regression was used to identify potential predictors of shared serostatus among serodiscordant couples in the city of Parakou in 2022. Results: A total of 299 participants in long-term serodiscordant relationships were included in our study. The average age of the subjects was 37.55 ± 10.25 years. Women were the infected partner in 80.27% of cases. The most common level of education was secondary (33.45%). most respondents (230 subjects, 76.92%) were married. The average duration of the couple’s relationship was 121.68 months ± 96.32. The most frequent screening circumstances were: Prevention of mother-to-child transmission (PmTCT) (50.84%) and hospital screening (26.09%). The infected partner shared his or her serostatus with his or her spouse in 47.83% of cases. Potential predictors of serostatus sharing within the couple were: marital status (p Conclusion: The sharing of serostatus within serodiscordant couples needs to be managed in a way that takes into account the social and marital characteristics of the couple.

Comparison between lighting performance of a virtual natural lighting solutions prototype and a real window based on computer simulation

This article discusses the measurement and simulation of a first generation prototype of Virtual Natural Lighting solutions （VNLs）, which are systems that can artificially provide natural lighting as well as a realistic outside view, with properties comparable to those of real windows and skylights. Examples of employing Radiance as a simulation tool to predict the lighting performance of such solutions are shown, for a particular case study of a VNLs prototype displaying variations of a simplified view of overcast, clear, and partly cloudy skies. measurement and simulation were conducted to evaluate the iUuminance distribution on workptane level. The key point of this study is to show that simulations can be used to compare an actual VNLs prototype with a hypothetical real window under the same sky scenes, which was physically not possible, since the test room was not located at the building＇s facade. It is found that the investigated prototype yields a less rapidly drop iUuminance distribution and a larger average illuminance than the corresponding real window, under the overcast （52 lx compared to 28 lx） and partly cloudy （102 lx compared to 80 lx） sky scenes. Under the clear sky scene, the real window yields a larger averase illuminance （97 lx） compared to the prototype （71 lx）, due to the influence of direct sunlight.

Effect of Alloying Additions on the Oxidation of High speed steels under Dry and Wet Conditions

An investigation has been carried out into the effects of chromium and vanadium content on the oxidation rate and on the adhesion of oxide scales grown on three different chemical compositions of high speed steels under dry and wet *** oxidation tests were carried out in a thermobalance at 650℃for up to 14.4 *** mass gain of the specimens increased with increasing contents of water vapour. Alloy composition had no effect on the oxidation rate in dry ***'adhesion'of the oxide scale was determined using indentation with a Rockwell C diamond and the pull adhesion test to determine the interfacial toughness and the tensile strength of the oxide metal bond,***,the results of the investigation indicated that oxide adhesion was lowest for the specimens exposed to dry conditions, and that with increasing water vapour content,the scale was more *** test results showed that an increase in the V concentration was deleterious to oxide adhesion in both the dry and wet environments,whereas an increase in the Cr-content had little effect on adhesion.
