Deforestation occurs at an alarming rate in upland watersheds of Bangladesh and has.m.ny detrimental effects on the environment. This study reports the effects of deforestation on soil biological proper- ties along with s.m. important physicochemical parameters of a southern upland watershed ***. soils were s.m.led at 4 paired sites, each pair representing a deforested site and a forested site, and having s.m.lar topographical characteristics. significantly fewer （p〈0.001） fungi and bacteria, and lower microbial respiration, active microbial biomass, metabolic and microbial quotients were found in soils of the deforested sites. soil physical properties such as.m.isture content, water holding capacity, and chemical properties such as organic matter, total N, avail- able P and EC were also lower in deforested soils. Bulk density and pH were significantly higher in deforested soils. Available Ca and mg were inconsistent between the two land uses at all the paired sites. Re- duced abundance and＇biomass of soil mesofauna were recorded in defor- ested soils. However, soil anecic species were more abundant in defor- ested soils than epigeic and endogeic species, which were more abundant in forested soils than on deforested sites.

The effect of potash as a nondurable finish on the flammability of 100% cotton fabric （plain 180 g/m^2） was investigated. The bone-drled weighed fabrics were dipped into suitable concentrations of potash, with a volume of 100 mL at 20-2℃. The impregnation was followed by means of squeeze rolls and drying at 110 ℃. The s.m.les were then reweighed with analytical precision. After conditioning overnight by using our ＂vertical flame tester＂ the optimum add-on values to impart flame-retardancy to cotton fabric was determined and expressed by 0.80 g of potash per 100 g fabric to be an efficient addition. Thermogravimetric analysis of pure cotton, treated cotton with potash at its optimum efficiency for donation of flame-retardancy into cotton fabric was fulfilled and the thermograms were compared and commented. The effectiveness of this hydroxide was attributed to the heat dissipation by the remaining cons.m.d material during the combustion. The results obtained are in favor of ＂Dust or Wall Effect Theory＂.

The aim of the present work was to study the effect of austenite grain size （AGs） on the martensite formation in a high-manganese twinning-induced plasticity （TWIP） steel. The results of a quantitative microstructural characterization of the steel by the whole X-ray pattern fitting Rietveld software, materials analysis using diffraction （mAUD）, indicated that the volume fraction of αbcc-martensite increases with increasing AGs. However, the value of the stacking fault probability （Psf） does not show a large variation for s.m.les with different values of AGs under water-quenching conditions.

In recent years.m.ch research has been focused on separating acoustic sources from their *** Unmixing Estimation Technique(DUET)is one of the widely popular meth-ods of Blind source separation(Bss)in underdetermined *** is based on a signal recovery sparsity algorithm whose performance is strongly influenced by sparsity in the Time-Frequency(TF)*** and an several sources in mixtures limit the sparsity resulting in performance degradation in *** an enhanced strategy has been adopted by combin-ing DUET with adaptive noise cancellation utilising the Dual-Tree Complex Wavelet Transform(DTCWT)as a pre-processor and TF refinement utilising synchroextracting Transform(sET)as a *** improves the sparsity of sources and energy concentrations in a TF *** of the signal separation performance evaluation reveal that the proposed algorithm outperforms conventional DUET in signal separation,especially in real-time scenarios.

Electrical energy is essential for modern society to sustain economic *** soaring demand for the electrical energy,together with an awareness of the environmental impact of fossil fuels,has been driving a shift towards the utilization of solar ***,traditional solar energy solutions often require extensive spaces for a panel installation,limiting their practicality in a dense urban *** overcome the spatial constraint,researchers have developed transparent photovoltaics(TPV),enabling windows and facades in vehicles and buildings to generate electric *** TPV advancements are focused on improving both transparency and power output to rival commercially available silicon solar *** this review,we first briefly introduce wavelength-and non-wavelengthselective strategies to achieve *** of merit and theoretical limits of TPVs are discussed to comprehensively understand the status of current TPV *** we highlight recent progress in different types of TPVs,with a particular focus on solution-processed thin-film photovoltaics(PVs),including colloidal quantum dot PVs.m.tal halide perovskite PVs and organic *** applications of TPVs are also reviewed,with emphasis on agrivoltaics,smart windows and ***,current challenges and future opportunities in TPV research are pointed out.

We collected soil s.m.les from two representative sites at Aatmile of Khagarachari hill district in Chittagong Hill Tracts. One of the sites was under shifting cultivation and the other an adjacent 13-year old teak plantation. Both sites were in the s.m. physiographic condition and s.m. aspect with parable soil type, which enabled us to measure the effects of shifting cultivation on soil micro-flora. We studied soil phys-ico-chemical properties and the biochemical and biological properties of soil microbes. moisture and organic matter content as well as fungi and bacterial populations, both in surface and subsurface soils, were signifi-cantly （p≤0.001） lower in shifting cultivated soils compared to soils not under shifting cultivation, i.e. the teak plantation site. The most abundant bacteria in surface （0-10 cm） and sub-surface （10-20 cm） soils under shifting cultivation were Pseudomonas diminuta and shigella, respec-tively, while in corresponding soil layers of teak plantation, predominant microbes were Bacillus firmus （0-10 cm） and Xanthomonas （10-20 cm）. The microbial population differences cannot be explained by soil texture differences because of the textural s.m.larity in soils from the two sites but could be related to the significantly lower moisture and organic mat-ter contents in soils under shifting cultivation.

The involvement of the excitatory amino acids glutamate and aspartate in ce rebral ischemia and excitotoxicity is ***,the role of non-excitatory amino acids in brain damage following a stroke or brain trauma remains largely *** release of amino acids by necrotic cells in the ischemic core may contribute to the expansion of the *** findings indicated that the reversible loss of field excitato ry postsynaptic potentials caused by transient hypoxia became irreversible when exposed to a mixture of just four non-excitatory amino acids(L-alanine,glycine,L-glutamine,and L-serine)at their plasma *** amino acids induce swelling in the s.m.s of neurons and astrocytes during hypoxia,along with permanent dendritic damage mediated by N-methyl-D-aspartate *** N-methyl-D-aspartate receptors prevented neuronal damage in the presence of these amino acids during *** is likely that astroglial swelling caused by the accumulation of these amino acids via the alanine-serine-cysteine transporter 2 exchanger and system N transporters activates volume-regulated anion channels,leading to the release of excitotoxins and subsequent neuronal damage through N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor ***,previously unrecognized mechanisms involving non-excitatory amino acids.m.y contribute to the progression and expansion of brain injury in neurological emergencies such as stroke and traumatic brain *** these pathways co uld highlight new therapeutic targets to mitigate brain injury.
