Adiabatic shear instability in a titanium alloy:Extreme deformation-induced phase transformation,nanotwinning,and grain refinement

Increasingly harsh service conditions place higher requirements for the high strain-rate performance of titanium *** shear band(AsB),a phenomenon prone to dynamic loading,is often accom-panied by catastrophic ***,it is unclear how the internal nanostructures are related to shear *** we report detailed microstructural evolution in the AsB of a titanium alloy via in-depth focused ion beam(FIB),transmission Kikuchi diffraction(TKD),and high-resolution transmission electron microscope(HRTEM)analyses,with the deformation instability phenomenon discussed from the energy *** AsB interior undergoes multifaceted changes,namely deformation-induced beta-to-alpha transformation and deformation-induced martensitic transformation to form substantially refined and heterogeneous ***,two types of extremely fine twins are identified to occur within both nano-sized martensite and alpha *** critical plastic work representing the onset of adiabatic shear instability and dynamic equilibrium is observed to be constant for a specific structure in the same deformation *** energy analysis could be extended to other materials subjected to high strain-rate dynamic deformation.

The interaction between{112}deformation twinning and grain boundary in coaxial polycrystalline tantalum under shock compression was studied with molecular dynamics simulation under different grain pair misorientation angles(MA)and geometric compatibility factor(m’).Generally,in the coaxial polycrystal,the value of MA determines the occurrence of twin transfer(TT)or twin blockage(TB),i.e.,twin transfer occurs at MA≤29°with twin blockage *** TT,the value of m’affects the selection of twin variants.,i.e.,the twin system with a larger m’is easier to *** morphology of twin pairs is ruler-shaped and lenticular under TT and TB,respectively,with different thickening mechanisms,including grain boundary dislocation emission.

Physiological and psychological responses to tended plant communities with varying color characteristics

Exposure to plants has been reported to promote health and reduce stress,and plant color has direct impacts on physical and mental *** used images of common types of tended plant communities in shenyang,China,with combinations of yellow,green,and red foliage,as experimental stimuli.A total of 27 images were used as visual *** used electroencephalography to measureαwave activity(8-13 Hz)in 40 subjects while they viewed visual *** data were combined with subjective questionnaire data to analyze the relaxing effect of images of tended plant communities with different color types and proportions on *** results revealed that,although there were slight differences between the electroencephalography and psychological findings,women were significantly more relaxed than men after viewing the *** and psychological responses varied with the types and proportions of colors in the tended plant communities:those of foliage with combinations of two or three colors induced stronger responses than images with a single ***,(1)for one-color plant communities,green or yellow plant communities induced a stronger relaxation effect than red plant communities;(2)for two-color plant communities,the optimal color proportion was 55%+45%,and the green+yellow and green+red color combinations induced a stronger relaxation effect;(3)for three-color plant communities,the relaxation effect was strongest when the color proportion was 55%green+25%yellow+20%*** data would provide a plant color matching in future plant landscape design,which may be helpful for creating healthy and relaxing environments.

Controlling secondary flow in high-lift low-pressure turbine using boundary-layer slot suction

The design of high-lift Low-Pressure Turbines(LPTs)causes the separation of the boundary layer on the suction side of the blade and leads to a strong secondary *** present study aims to minimize secondary losses through endwall slot suction and incoming wakes in a front-loaded high-lift LPT cascade with Zweifel of 1.58 under low Reynolds number of *** slotted schemes for the boundary layer of the endwall were designed(Plan A and Plan B),and the effects of suction mass flow on secondary flow were *** underlying physics of the endwall boundary layer of the suction and secondary flow under unsteady wakes was *** results show that slot suction at the endwall boundary layer can significantly suppress the secondary flow by removing low-momentum *** A and B significantly reduced the secondary kinetic energy by 44.2%and 36.9%,respectively,compared with the baseline cascade at the suction mass flow ratios of 1%.With an increase in the mass flow ratio of suction,the secondary flow was gradually reduced in both Plans A and *** is more beneficial to control the secondary flow to destroy the intersection of the pressure side and suction side of the horseshoe vortex before it develops into a passage *** unsteady wakes,the combined effects of incoming wakes and endwall boundary layer suction can further suppress the secondary flow at the suction mass flow ratios of 2%for Plan A,because the positive and negative vorticity inside upstream wakes accelerated the mixing of the main flow and secondary flow and thus increased the energy of secondary vortices.

*** In recent years,China has carried out an extensive preventative battle against air,water,and soil pollution,and the nation’s environmental quality-as reflected by conventional pollutant indicators—has significantly *** the same time,the issue of emerging contaminants(ECs)is beginning to receive increasing *** generally refer to newly discovered or noticeable pollutants that pose risks to the ecological environment or human *** they have not been included in environmental management,or existing management measures are insufficient to effectively prevent and control their *** ECs of greatest concern generally include persistent organic pollutants(POPs),endocrine-disrupting chemicals(EDCs),pharmaceuticals and personal care products(PPCPs),and *** four categories of ECs are not entirely separate,as they interrelate with each other(Fig.1).Chemical production and product usage are the main sources of *** is the world’s largest producer and consumer of bulk chemicals,and the production value of China’s chemical industry is predicted to reach 50%of the global total by 2030[1].scientific control of ECs based on their environmental risk assessment is a necessary way to support the prevention and legal governance of ECs.

This paper investigates the age of information(AoI)-based multi-user mobile edge computing(MEC)network with partial offloading *** weighted sum AoI(WsA)is first analyzed and derived,and then a WsA minimization problem is formulated by jointly optimizing the user scheduling and data *** to the non-analytic expression of the WsA *** optimization variables and the unknowability of future network information,the problem cannot be solved with known solution ***,an online joint Partial Offloading and User scheduling Optimization(jPOUsO)algorithm is proposed by transforming the original problem into a single-slot data assignment subproblem and a single-slot user scheduling sub-problem and solving the two sub-problems *** analyze the computational complexity of the presented jPO-UsO algorithm,which is of O(N),with N being the number of *** results show that the proposed jPO-UsO algorithm is able to achieve better AoI performance compared with various baseline *** is shown that both the user’s data assignment and the user’s AoI should be jointly taken into account to decrease the system WsA when scheduling users.

spin chiral anisotropy(sChA)refers to the occurrence of different spin polarization in antipodal chiral ***,we report the sChA in diamagnetic chiral mesostructured In2O3 films(CMIFs)with manifestation of chirality-dependent magnetic circular dichroism(MCD)*** were grown on fluorine-doped tin dioxide conductive glass(FTO)substrates,which were synthesized via a hydrothermal route,with malic acid used as the symmetry-breaking *** levels of chirality have been identified in CMIFs:primary nanoflakes with atomically twisted crystal lattices and secondary helical stacking of the *** exhibit chirality-dependent asymmetric MCD signals due to the different interactions of chirality-induced effective magnetic field and external magnetic field,which distinguish from the commonly observed external magnetic fielddependent symmetric MCD *** findings provide insights into spin manipulation of spin-paired diamagnets.
