The potato psyllid Bactericera cockerelli(Hemiptera:Triozidae)has recently emerged as a serious pest of potatoes and other solanaceous *** causes direct feeding damage and also vectors Candidatus Liberibacter solanaceaerum(Lso),a pathogen that causes zebra chip disease in potatoes and which potentially costs growers millions of dollars each *** producers rely on frequent sprays of pesticides for psyllid control but the results are unsatisfactory and there are negative side *** psyllid has spread beyond its native range in southwest Us and northern Mexico to Canada,El salvador,Honduras,Guatemala and Nicaragua via medium to long range dispersal flights perhaps aided by wind currents,and through anthropogenic *** was accidentally introduced into New Zealand in 2006 and most recently Australia,most likely through the importation of infested plant *** review summarizes information from studies on the biology,impact and management of ***,and highlights the imminent risk of this insect and its associated pathogen invading China,the world’s largest producer of fresh *** of risk maps leading to increased surveillance,could prevent or delay an incursion and facilitate early detection or eradication should this ***-term management with Lso-tolerant potato cultivars and psyllid control using the parasitic wasp Tamarixia triozae and other natural enemies should be pursued,rather than depending on synthetic pesticides.

saxicolous lichen communities in three basins associated with mining activity in northwestern Argentina

Mining activity affects the vegetation and soils of the ***,the effects of mining activity on saxicolous lichen communities are less ***,the aim of this study was to characterize saxicolous lichen communities in three basins(Vis-Vis River basin,Poteros River basin,and Capillitas River basin)surrounding metalliferous mining projects of different types of operation and at different stages of exploitation.A large-scale mine(Bajo de la Alumbrera)with more than 25 a of open-pit mining located in the Vis-Vis River basin(CRV).A pre-exploitation mine(Agua Rica)located in the Poteros River basin(CRP),and a small-scale mine(Minas Capillitas)with more than 160 a of underground mining located in the Capillitas River basin(CAC).In each basin,species richness,cover,and frequency of lichen communities were measured on 40 rock ***,explanatory variables were recorded,i.e.,altitude,slope,aspect,vegetation cover,rock,and soil cover around the rocky area *** and total cover of lichen communities were analysed using linear models,and species composition was explored using multivariate ordination *** showed that a total of 118 lichen species were *** species richness differed among basins and the lichen composition present in areas close to mining sites responded mainly to basins,altitude,and microsite *** lichen cover showed no difference among basins,but it changed under different rock and vegetation *** was not possible to quantify the effects of mining activity on species richness and ***,the low richness values found in the downstream of Minera Alumbrera could be associated with the negative impact of open-pit ***,the effects of large-scale mining activity on lichen communities needs more investigation.

Correlative species distribution models(sDMs)are important tools to estimate species’geographic distribution across space and time,but their reliability heavily relies on the availability and quality of occurrence *** can be biased when occurrences do not fully represent the environmental requirement of a *** tested to what extent species’physiological knowledge might influence sDM *** on the Japanese sea cucumber Apostichopus japonicus within the coastal ocean of East Asia,we compiled a comprehensive dataset of occurrence *** then explored the importance of incorporating physiological knowledge into sDMs by calibrating two types of correlative sDMs:a naïve model that solely depends on environmental correlates,and a physiologically informed model that further incorporates physiological information as *** further tested the models’sensitivity to calibration area choices by fitting them with different buffered areas around known *** with naïve models,the physiologically informed models successfully captured the negative influence of high temperature on *** and were less sensitive to the choice of calibration *** naïve models resulted in more optimistic prediction of the changes of potential distributions under climate change(i.e.,larger range expansion and less contraction)than the physiologically informed *** findings highlight benefits from incorporating physiological information into correlative sDMs,namely mitigating the uncertainties associated with the choice of calibration *** these promising features,we encourage future sDM studies to consider species physi-ological information where available.

Assessment of Intangible Losses in Earthquake Engineering

In order to find optimum design parameters in earthquake engineering, an objective function is optimized. This function comprises the initial cost of a structure and the cost due to the damage of earthquakes. Intangible losses may be included in the latter, such as how much society is willing to invest to preserve a human life. In this paper, the expression of the objective function is developed in terms of the seismic design coefficient, and the aforementioned intangible loss is calculated from both the individual point of view and that of society. The calculation of the intangible is based on utility curves. Finally, optimum seismic design coefficients are calculated for a firm ground site.

Model dependent analysis of D^(+)_(s)→η^(′)l+v_(l) decays in beyond standard model

Motivated by the recent experimental results of branching fractions for D^(+)_(s)→η^(′)l+v_(l) decays,which deviate from their sM predictions,we hve investigated these decays in W' model and scalar leptoquark model to determine potential signatures of new physics(NP) in semileptonic charm decays induced by c→(s,d)l+v_(l) *** recent experimental results of branching fractions for semileptonic D meson decays,new coupling parameters are predicted for the aforementioned NP *** fraction,forward-backward asymmetry,and lepton polarization asymmetry are examined by considering the predicted NP coupling *** results of branching fractions in scalar leptoquark model are found very close to the experimental results and exist around the range of 1σ *** presented a comparative study of the NP models to check their sensitivity on these *** anticipate that further research on these decays will significantly support our findings.

Preparation and Characterization of Flexible, Transparent and Thermally stable Aromatic Co-polyamides

Two aromatic co-polyamides were synthesized combining two diacid monomers containing bulky pendant groups, 5-(9,10-dihydro-9,10-ethanoanthracene-11,12-dicarboximido)isophthalic acid(DEAIA) and 5-tert-butylisophthalic acid(TERT), with 4,4′-(hexafluoroisopropylidene)dianiline(HFA) or 2,3,5,6-tetramethyl-1,4-phenylenediamine(Durene) by direct polycondensation. The structures of the obtained aromatic co-polyamides were confirmed by FTIR, Raman and 1 H-NMR. The co-copolyamide films, DHTH and DDTD, exhibited rms-roughness values between 0.94 and 1.60 nm, respectively. Moreover, they presented good thermal stability up to300 °C. Young's moduli of the co-polyamide films were between 4.1 and 4.3 GPa. X-ray diffraction results showed that the co-polyamide films were amorphous due to the incorporation of both bulky pendant groups, tert-butyl and dibenzobarrelene. The combination of bulky pendant groups provided intrinsically transparent co-polyamide films with a transmittance higher than 88% in the range of 400-780 *** to these outstanding film and optical properties, they are suggested to be flexible substrates in applications for solar cell and other portable electronic devices.

Optical coherence tomography （OCT） has gained considerable attention in interventional cardiovascular medicine and is currently used in clinical settings to assess atherosclerotic lesions and to optimize stent placement. Artery imaging at the cellular level constitutes the first step towards cardiovascular molecular imaging, which represents a major advance in the development of personalized noninvasive therapies. In this work we demonstrate that cardiovascular OCT can be used to detect individual cells suspended in biocompatible fluids. Importantly, the combination of this catheter-based clinical technique with gold nanoshells （GNss） as intracellular contrast agents led to a substantial enhancement in the backscattered signal produced by individual cells. This cellular contrast enhancement was attributed to the large backscattering cross-section of GNss at the OCT laser wavelength （1,300 nm）. A simple intensity analysis of OCT cross-sectional images of suspended cells makes it possible to identify the sub-population of living cells that successfully incorporated GNss. The generalizability of this method was demonstrated using two different cell lines （HeLa and Jurkat cells）. This work provides novel insights into cardiovascular molecular imaging using specifically modified GNss.
