High velocity ballistic impact deformation behaviour of Titanium/GFRP Fiber Metal Laminates(FML)has been explored.Both single and multiple projectiles impact conditions were considered.Ti/GFRP FML targets were fabricated with addition of 5%and 10%weight percentage of boron carbide(B_(4)C)particles.Mechanical properties of Ti/GFRP FML targets were determined as per AsTM standards.High velocity ballistic experiments were conducted using Armour Piercing Projectile(APP)of diameter 7.62 mm and velocity ranging between 350 and 450 m/s.Depth of penetration of the projectile into the target was measured.The deformation behaviour of Ti/GFRP targets with and without the presence of ceramic powder(B_(4)C)was investigated.“Ductile hole growth”failure mode was observed for pure GFRP target when subjected to single projectile impact whereas“plugging”failure mode was noted for Ti/GFRP targets.The presence of B_(4)C(5%by weight)particles has significantly improved the ballistic resistance of the Ti/GFRP FML target by offering frictional resistance to the projectile penetration.Further addition(10%by weight)of B_(4)C has reduced the ballistic performance due to agglomeration.None of the targets showed‘brittle cracking’or‘fragmentation’failures.When compared to the published results of Aluminium(Al 1100/GFRP and Al 6061/GFRP)FMLs,Ti/GFRP FML showed lesser DoP which increases its potential application to aerospace industry.

In the present work, the surface characteristics of Electrical Discharge Machined (EDM) Al (6351)esiC and Al (6351)esiCeB4C composites are investigated. The composites are prepared by employing the conventional stir casting technique, as it can produce better particle dispersion in the matrix. The detailed experimental study is performed on the composites by varying current (I), duty factor (t), pulse on time (Ton), and the gap voltage (V) in order to analyze the Heat Affected Zone (HAZ) formed in the sub surface and the average crater diameter formed on the machined surface of the composites as an output function. The formation of recast layers, presence of bubbles and the surface texture of the composites at various machining conditions are observed. The results show that the increased Metal Removal Rate (MRR) increases the depth of HAZ and the average crater diameter on the machined area. Further, the addition of B4C particles to the composite produces more surface defect than the AlesiC composite.

采用搅拌摩擦焊(FsW)工艺制备AZ31B镁合金焊接接头,并在不同条件下进行热处理。研究AZ31B镁合金焊后热处理(PWHT)不同区域的抗弹行为,使用7.62 mm×39 mm穿甲弹,冲击速度为(430±20)m/s。分析热处理前后搅拌摩擦焊接头的显微硬度。结果表明,PWHT工艺(250°C,1 h)能提高热处理后搅拌摩擦焊接头的显微硬度。扫描电镜(sEM)结果显示,热处理使α-Mg晶粒细化,形成细小的析出相,使β-Mg17Al12相溶解到Mg基体中。通过穿深(DOP)试验评估PWHT不同区域的抗弹行为。热处理后接头母材区(BMZ)的DOP值较小。抗弹试验后对弹坑周边3个区域的横截面进行sEM表征,观察到绝热剪切带(AsB)的形成。

BACKGROUND Gastrointestinal(GI)bleeding accounts for over half a million admissions annually and is the most common GI diagnosis requiring hospitalization in the United states.Bipolar electrocoagulation devices are used for the management of gastrointestinal bleeding.There is no data on device-related adverse events for gold probe(GP)and injection gold probe(IGP).AIM To analyze this using the Food and Drug Administration(FDA’s)Manufacturer and User Facility Device Experience(MAUDE)database from 2013 to 2023.METHODs We examined post-marketing surveillance data on GP and IGP from the FDA MAUDE database to report devicerelated and patient-related adverse events between 2013-2023.The MAUDE database is a publicly available resource providing over 4 million records relating to medical device safety.statistical analyses were performed using IBM sPss statistics V.27.0(IBM Corp.,Armonk,NY,United states).REsULTs Our search elicited 140 reports for GP and 202 reports for IGP,respec-tively,during the study period from January 2013 to August 2023.Malfunctions reportedly occurred in 130 cases for GP,and actual patient injury or event occurred in 10 patients.A total of 149 patients(74%)reported with Injection GP events suffered no significant consequences due to the device failure,but 53 patients(26%)were affected by an event.CONCLUsION GP and IGP are critical in managing gastrointestinal bleeding.This study of the FDA MAUDE database revealed the type,number,and trends of reported device-related adverse events.The endoscopist and support staff must be aware of these device-related events and be equipped to manage them if they occur.

The present study aimed to evaluate multi-element concentrations(Al,As,Ca,Cd,Co,Cr,Cu,Fe,Mg,Mn,Mo,Ni,Pb,sr)in suspended particulate material(sPM)collected from Ensenada de La Paz(ELP)lagoon,Baja California sur,Mexico in two different periods(september and May)to comprehend their origin,geochemical behavior,mass transfer and associated ecotoxicological risks.The 24 hr variation coefficient of volumetric sPM levels were found to be 51.7%in september and 40.5%in May,signifying the effects of oceanic waters.The calculated enrichment factor(EF)values for all the studied elements were of higher magnitude because of the high surface area and oxide nature of sPM,and in this study,Mo had the highest EF of 46.77 probably due to its origin from continental weathering.From the ecotoxicological perspective,the integrated toxic risk index revealed low toxic risk to the benthic community.However,the mean-ERM-Quotient calculated using the particulate concentrations of As,Cd,Cr,Cu,Ni,Pb indicated 9%probability of toxicity to biota.The comprehensive geochemical and ecotoxicological assessment of particulate metal concentrations in the ELP lagoon signify low to moderate contamination.

In an effort to reduce vehicle collisions with snowplows in poor weather conditions, this paper details the development of a real time thermal image based machine learning approach to an early collision avoidance system for snowplows, which intends to detect and estimate the distance of trailing vehicles. Due to the operational conditions of snowplows, which include heavy-blowing snow, traditional optical sensors like LiDAR and visible spectrum cameras have reduced effectiveness in detecting objects in such environments. Thus, we propose using a thermal infrared camera as the primary sensor along with machine learning algorithms. First, we curate a large dataset of thermal images of vehicles in heavy snow conditions. Using the curated dataset, two machine-learning models based on the modified ResNet architectures were trained to detect and estimate the trailing vehicle distance using real-time thermal images. The trained detection network was capable of detecting trailing vehicles 99.0% of the time at 1500.0 ft distance from the snowplow. The trained trailing distance network was capable of estimating distance with an average estimation error of 10.70 ft. The inference performance of the trained models is discussed, along with the interpretation of the performance.

The performance of the state-of-the-art Deep Reinforcement algorithms such as Proximal Policy Optimization, Twin Delayed Deep Deterministic Policy Gradient, and soft Actor-Critic for generating a quadruped walking gait in a virtual environment was presented in previous research work titled “A Comparison of PPO, TD3, and sAC Reinforcement Algorithms for Quadruped Walking Gait Generation”. We demonstrated that the soft Actor-Critic Reinforcement algorithm had the best performance generating the walking gait for a quadruped in certain instances of sensor configurations in the virtual environment. In this work, we present the performance analysis of the state-of-the-art Deep Reinforcement algorithms above for quadruped walking gait generation in a physical environment. The performance is determined in the physical environment by transfer learning augmented by real-time reinforcement learning for gait generation on a physical quadruped. The performance is analyzed on a quadruped equipped with a range of sensors such as position tracking using a stereo camera, contact sensing of each of the robot legs through force resistive sensors, and proprioceptive information of the robot body and legs using nine inertial measurement units. The performance comparison is presented using the metrics associated with the walking gait: average forward velocity (m/s), average forward velocity variance, average lateral velocity (m/s), average lateral velocity variance, and quaternion root mean square deviation. The strengths and weaknesses of each algorithm for the given task on the physical quadruped are discussed.

The emphasis of this exploration was to examine the workability and work hardening performance of Mg(Magnesium)specimen and Mg-B_(4)C composites created via the powder metallurgy technique.The pure Mg and Mg-B_(4)C composites are made with distinct weight percentages(Mg-5%B_(4)C,Mg-10%B_(4)C,and Mg-15%B_(4)C)at the unit aspect ratio.The powders and composites characterization are executed by sEM(scanning Electron Microscope),EDs(Energy Dispersive spectrum)with an elemental map,and XRD(X-ray Diffraction)examination.It displays that,the B_(4)C particles were dispersed consistently with the Mg matrix.The workability and work hardening examination was conducted in triaxial stress conditions using the cold deformation process.The consequence of workability stress exponent factor(β_(σ)),distinct stress proportion factors(σ_(m)/σ_(eff)and σ_(θ)/σ_(eff)),instantaneous work hardening exponent(n_(1)),work hardening exponent(n),coefficient of strength(k)and instantaneous coefficient of strength(k_(1))are recognized.The outcome displays that Mg-15%B_(4)C specimen has greater workability and work hardening parameter,initial relative density,and triaxial stresses compared with the Mg specimen and Mg-(5–10%)B_(4)C composites.

Augmentation of abnormal cells in the brain causes brain tumor(BT),and early screening and treatmentwill reduce its harshness in patients.BT’s clinical level screening is usually performed with Magnetic Resonance Imaging(MRI)due to its multi-modality nature.The overall aims of the study is to introduce,test and verify an advanced image processing technique with algorithms to automatically extract tumour sections from brain MRI scans,facilitating improved accuracy.The research intends to devise a reliable framework for detecting the BT region in the twodimensional(2D)MRI slice,and identifying its class with improved accuracy.The methodology for the devised framework comprises the phases of:(i)Collection and resizing of images,(ii)Implementation and segmentation of Convolutional Neural Network(CNN),(iii)Deep feature extraction,(iv)Handcrafted feature extraction,(v)Moth-Flame-Algorithm(MFA)supported feature reduction,and(vi)Performance evaluation.This study utilized clinical-grade brain MRI of BRATs and TCIA datasets for the investigation.This framework segments detected the glioma(low/high grade)and glioblastoma class BT.This work helped to get a segmentation accuracy of over 98%with VGG-UNet and a classification accuracy of over 98%with the VGG16 scheme.This study has confirmed that the implemented framework is very efficient in detecting the BT in MRI slices with/without the skull section.

The challenges in the current energy consumption patterns and demand–supply gap are driving the need to develop commercially viable and sustainable alternative fuels that are eco-friendly and efficient.Given the existing alternatives,hydrogen is regarded as the ultimate carbon-less clean and green fuel with high energy density.Considerable efforts are being made to develop catalysts/photo-catalysts for the efficient production of hydrogen from abundantly available water resources via water-splitting process.In this review,the photocatalytic activity of tin oxide-based hybrid photocatalytic materials for increased hydrogen production has been studied.The existing bottlenecks and proposed solutions have also been discussed.
