Over the last few decades, there have been numerous reports of adverse effects on the reproductive health of wildlife and laboratory animals caused by exposure to endocrine disrupting chemicals （EDCs）. The increasing trends in human male reproductive disorders and the mounting evidence for causative environmental factors have therefore sparked growing interest in the health threat posed to humans by EDCs, which are substances in our food, environment and consumer items that interfere with hormone action, biosynthes.s or metabolism, resulting in disrupted tissue homeostas.s or reproductive function. The mechanis.s of EDCs involve a wide array of actions and pathways. Examples include the estrogenic, androgenic, thyroid and retinoid pathways, in which the EDCs may act directly as agonis.s or antagonis.s, or indirectly via other nuclear receptors. Dioxins and dioxin-like EDCs exert their biological and toxicological actions through activation of the aryl hydrocarbon-receptor, which besides inducing transcription of detoxifying enzymes also regulates transcriptional activity of other nuclear receptors. There is increasing evidence that genetic predispositions may modify the s.sceptibility to adverse effects of toxic chemicals. In this review, potential consequences of hereditary predisposition and EDCs are discussed, with a special focus on the currently available publications on interactions between dioxin and androgen signaling.

Dispersion of the generalized Rayleigh waves propagating in a covered halfspace made of viscoelastic materials is investigated by utilizing the exact equations of the theory of linear *** dispersion equation is obtained for an arbitrary type of hereditary operator of the materials of the constituents and a solution algorithm is developed for obtaining numerical results on the dispersion of the waves under *** curves are presented for certain attenuation cas.s and the influence of the viscosity of the materials is.studied through three rheological parameters of the viscoelastic materials which characterize the characteristic creep time,long-term values and the mechanical behaviour of the viscoelastic material around the initial state of the *** results are presented and discussed for the case where the viscoelasticity of the materials is described through fractional-exponential operators by *** the result of this discussion,in particular,how the rheological parameters influence the dispersion of the generalized Rayleigh waves propagating in the covered half-space under consideration is established.

Current palaeoclimatic reconstructions for the R＆#237;o de la Plata region during the latest Pleistocene （30,000 e10,000 yr BP） propose dry conditions, with rainfall at the Last Glacial Maximum amounting to one-third of today＇s precipitation. Despite the consequential low primary productivity inferred, an impressive megafauna existed in the area at that time. Here we explore the influence of the flooding from a huge extinct s.stem of water bodies in the Andean Altiplano as a likely source for wet regimes that might have increased the primary productivity and, hence, the vast number of megaherbivores. The s.stem was reconstructed using specifically combined software resources, including Insola, Global Mapper v13, surfer and Matlab. Changes in water volume and area covered were related to climatic change, ass.ssed through a model of astronomical forcing that describes the changes in insolation at the top of the at-mosphere in the last 50,000 yr BP. The model was validated by comparing its results with several proxies （CH4, CO2, D, 18O） from dated cores taken from the ice covering Antarctic lakes Vostok and EPICA Dome C. It is concluded that the Altiplano Lake s.stem drained towards the southeast in the rainy seasons and that it must have been a major source of water for the Paran＆#225;-Plata Basin, consequently enhancing primary productivity within it.

In the present paper, we have investigated the peristaltic flow of hyperbolic tangent fluid in a curved channel. The governing equations of hyperbolic tangent fluid model for curved channel are derived including the effects of curvature. The highly nonlinear partial differential equations are simplified by using the wave frame transformation,long wave length and low Reynolds number assumptions. The reduced nonlinear partial differential equation is.solved analytically with the help of homotopy perturbation method (HPM). The physical features of pertinent parameters have been discussed by plotting the graphs of pressure rise and stream functions.

The purpose of this paper is twofold:(i)to propose a methodology to accurately evaluate power quality indices,and(ii)to highlight the importance of power quality monitoring services at different voltage levels of three-phase power *** proposed methodology is based on wavelet packet transform(WPT)and is able to perform power quality analys.s in three-phase power s.stems operating under stationary and non-stationary conditions,in the presence of both harmonics and *** test cas.s are examined:synthetic voltage and current waveforms including noise,simulated test s.stems,a modified IEEE 13-bus test feeder,as well as experimental *** obtained results in all cas.s demonstrate the accuracy and the effectiveness of the proposed WPT method and its.superiority over fast Fourier transform to accurately evaluate power quality indices in case of non-stationary disturbances.

Bridges are the most useful part in the transportation *** disruption of the bridge structures may hamper the whole transportation *** the last recent tsunamis,numerous number of bridges were structurally damaged by the tsunami *** of proper provisions of tsunami forces in the design guidelines also contributes to the augmentations of the damage ***,proper evaluation of the tsunami forces on the bridge girder should be introduced in the design *** this.study,laboratory experiments were carried out to reveal the damage mechanism of the bridge girder by ass.ssing the exerted tsunami *** broken and unbroken waves were considered for the *** results.showed that measured forces were larger for broken waves than those of unbroken *** force of the broken waves was 4.59 times as large as the hydrostatic ***,waves reached the peak value more rapidly for larger wave heights than those of smaller ***,a girder that is placed at a higher position is much vulnerable to tsunami hazard.

We analyze the structure and composition of old-growth wet evergreen forest of Nelliampathy hills, the chain of hills lying immediately south of Palghat Gap, in the southern Western Ghats of India. We sampled 30 plots of 0.1 ha each （50 m × 20 m） at six locations enumerating all plants ？ 10 cm girth at breast height. We pooled the data and computed various.structural parameters. There were 152 species of 120 genera and 51 families of the study area. Of these, 118 （77%） were trees, 24 were climbers （16%） and 10 were shrubs （7%）. species richness varied from 58–99 per 0.5 ha sample and shannon indices of diversity ranged from 4.4 to 5.2. Fifty-nine per cent （89 species） of the species were Indian sub-continent elements and 34% （51 species） are endemic to the Western Ghats. Fifteen species are listed in various threat categories. Aglaia and Litsea were the most species-rich genera. Numbers of families ranged from 27–43 per 0.5 ha sample. Euphorbiaceae and Lauraceae were the most species-rich families. stand density varied from 1714 to 2244 stems·ha？1 and basal area from 53.6 to 102.1 m2·ha？1. The vegetation was dominated by 3–6 species and six dominance patterns characterized the species composition within the hill complex. The old-growth evergreen fores.s of Nelliampathy exist as.small fragments rich in biodiversity and can be used as benchmarks for comparison with disturbed fores.s.

The dilepton invariant mass.spectra and integrated branching ratios of the single and double Dalitz decays P→l^＋l^-γ and P→l^＋l^-l^＋l^-（P=π^0,η,η＇;l=e or μ） are predicted by means of a data-driven approach based on the use of rational approximants applied to π^0,η and η＇ transition form factor experimental data in the space-like region.
