Contaminants,such as polychlorinated biphenyls(pCBs),polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons(pAHs),heavy metals,and per and polyfluoroalkyl substances(pFAss),primarily reach the Arctic through long-range atmospheric and oceanic ***,local sources within the Arctic also contribute to the levels observed in the environment,including legacy sources and new sources that arise from activities associated with increasing commercial and industrial *** City of Iqaluit in Frobisher Bay,Nunavut(Canada),has seen rapid population growth and associated development during recent decades yet remains a site of interest for ocean protection,where Inuit continue to harvest country *** the present study,seven dated marine sediment cores collected in Koojesse Inlet near Iqaluit,and from sites in inner and outer Frobisher Bay,respectively,were analyzed for total mercury(THg),major and trace elements,pAHs,pCBs,and *** sedimentary record in Koojesse Inlet shows a period of Aroclor 1260-like pCB input concurrent with military site presence in the 1950e60s,followed by decades of input of pyrogenic pAHs,averaging about ten times background ***-surface sediments in Koojesse Inlet also show evidence of transient local-source inputs of THg and pFAss,and recycling or continued slow release of pCBs from legacy land-based *** in pFAs congener composition clearly distinguish the local sources from long-range *** Koojesse Inlet but still in inner Frobisher Bay,9.2 km from Iqaluit,sediments showed evidence of both local source(pCB)and longrange *** outer Frobisher Bay,an up-core increase in THg and pFAss in sediments may be explained by ongoing inputs of these contaminants from long-range *** context for ocean protection and country food harvesting in this region of the Arctic clearly involves both local sources and long-range transport,with past human activities leaving a long legacy insofar as levels of persistent o

Accounting for the uncertainties in the estimation of average shear wave velocity using Vs-N correlations

site-specific seismic hazard analysis is crucial for designing earthquake resistance structures,particularly in seismically active *** wave velocity(V_(s))is a key parameter in such analysis,although the economy and other factors restrict its direct field measurement in many *** V_(s)-spT-N correlations are routinely incorporated in seismic hazard analysis to estimate the value of V_(s).However,many uncertainties question the reliability of these estimated V_(s)*** paper comes up with a statistical approach to take care of such uncertainties involved in V_(s)*** measured spT-N values from all the critical boreholes were converted into statistical parameters and passed through various correlations to estimate V_(s)at different *** effect of different soil layers in the boreholes on the V_(s)estimation was also taken into ***,the average shear wave velocity of the top 30 m soil coverV_(s30))is estimated after accounting for various epistemic and aleatoric *** scattering nature of the V_(s)values estimated using different V_(s)-N correlations was reduced significantly with the application of the *** results further clearly demonstrated the potential of the approach to eliminate various uncertainties involved in the estimation of V_(s)30 using general and soil-specific correlations.

photobiomodulation:a novel approach to promote trans-differentiation of adipose-derived stem cells into neuronal-like cells

photobiomodulation,originally used red and near-infrared lasers,can alter cellular *** has been demonstrated that the visible spectrum at 451-540 nm does not necessarily increase cell proliferation,near-infrared light promotes adipose stem cell proliferation and affects adipose stem cell migration,which is necessary for the cells homing to the site of *** this in vitro study,we explored the potential of adipose-derived stem cells to differentiate into neurons for future translational regenerative treatments in neurodegenerative disorders and brain *** investigated the effects of various biological and chemical inducers on trans-differentiation and evaluated the impact of photobiomodulation using 825 nm near-infrared and 525 nm green laser light at 5 J/*** adipose-derived stem cells can be used in autologous grafting and photobiomodulation has been shown to have biostimulatory *** findings reveal that adipose-derived stem cells can indeed trans-differentiate into neuronal cells when exposed to inducers,with pre-induced cells exhibiting higher rates of proliferation and trans-differentiation compared with the control ***,green laser light stimulation led to notable morphological changes indicative of enhanced trans-differentiation,while near-infrared photobiomodulation notably increased the expression of neuronal *** biochemical analysis and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays,we observed marked improvements in viability,proliferation,membrane permeability,and mitochondrial membrane potential,as well as increased protein levels of neuron-specific enolase and ciliary neurotrophic ***,our results demonstrate the efficacy of photobiomodulation in enhancing the trans-differentiation ability of adipose-derived stem cells,offering promising prospects for their use in regenerative medicine for neurodegenerative disorders and brain injuries.

In this editorial,we comment on the article by Wang et *** manuscript explores the potential synergistic effects of combining zanubrutinib,a novel oral inhibitor of Bruton’s tyrosine kinase,with high-dose methotrexate(HD-MTX)as a therapeutic intervention for primary central nervous system lymphoma(pCNsL).The study involves a retrospective analysis of 19 pCNsL patients,highlighting clinicopathological characteristics,treatment outcomes,and genomic *** results indicate the combination’s good tolerance and strong antitumor activity,with an 84.2%overall response *** authors emphasize the potential of zanubrutinib to modulate key genomic features of pCNsL,particularly mutations in myeloid differentiation primary response 88 and cluster of differentiation ***,the study investigates the role of circulating tumor DNA in cerebrospinal fluid for disease surveillance and treatment response *** essence,the study provides valuable insights into the potential of combining zanubrutinib with HD-MTX as a frontline therapeutic regimen for *** findings underscore the importance of exploring alternative treatment modalities and monitoring genomic and liquid biopsy markers to optimize patient *** the findings suggest promise,the study’s limitations should be considered,and further research is needed to establish the clinical relevance of this therapeutic approach for pCNsL.

We recently read the opinion piece titled“Why people should run after positive affective experiences instead of health benefits”,which was carried out by Maltagliati et al.^(1)and published in the Journal of sport and Health *** article started an important discussion about a physical activity(pA)promotion approach that encourages the use of affective experience to pA *** we agree with the authors’point of view and believe that its message can generate an important insight for pA promotion,the authors presented a scenario where behavior change seems to be exclusively dependent on the *** the existence of other barriers to an active lifestyle(e.g.,social inequalities)could enhance the authors’suggested approach because many people live in conditions that reduce their opportunities to engage in affective experiences related to pA;furthermore,affective experiences can vary depending on individual context.

Influence of biological maturation on cardiac autonomic recovery in female volleyball players during&after repeated sprints training:An experimental trial

previously,it was suggested that biological maturation(BM)could be linked to cardiac autonomic recovery(CAR)in the pediatric ***,this influence hasn’t been confirmed *** aim was to investigate the impact of BM on CAR in female volleyball *** study with a sample of 38 volleyball players,comprising 20 girls(age:[11.62.1]years)and 18 women(age:[24.55.5]years),we analyzed BM,comparing maturing subjects(girls)with mature subjects(women).Additionally,we assessed peak height velocity(pHV)in *** conducted a training session involving repeated sprints(3 rounds of 6 sprints interspersed by 5 min[min]of passive rest).Using short-range radio telemetry,we analyzed CAR during(at the end of the 1st and 2nd rounds)and after(following the 3rd round)the training session of repeated sprints by applying the 60-s to 300-s heart rate recovery index(HRR-Index).Girls exhibited superior CAR compared to women(round 2:60-s,120-s,240-s,and 300-s,psubgroup analyses of BM indicated that individuals in the Late-pHV stage demonstrated superior CAR compared to those in the Early-pHV and During-pHV groups.(60-s to 300-s,η2p>0.4,psubjects in the During-pHV stage were superior to those in the Early-pHV stage(240-sa 300-s,η2 p>0.4,ps a significant impact on cardiac autonomic recovery.

ENsO impacts on litter stocks and water holding capacity in secondary forests in eastern Amazonia

Among the impacts of climate change,there is the intensification of phenomena such as the El Niño south-ern Oscillation(ENsO)responsible for El Niño and La Niñ***,understanding their effects on the functional pro-cesses of forests is ***,this study evaluated the effects of ENsO on litter stock and water holding capac-ity(WHC)in a successional forest in eastern *** occurred in periods with the most rainfall in El Niño(2019)and least in La Niña(2021)*** permanent plots were used to sample *** effects were evident for WHC,higher during El Niñ***,this influence was not clear for litter,as only in the rainy season effects were *** was a positive correlation of WHC with precipitation and humidity,while litter stocks were negatively correlated with temperature and wind *** the subject of this study requires long-term assessments,preliminary results suggests that,depending on the intensity of ENsO,forest functional processes can be strongly impacted and *** conclusion reinforces warnings by the scientific community about the impacts of climate change on the maintenance of litter stocks,decomposition and,consequently,the biogeochemical cycle and essential ecosystem services for the maintenance of Amazonia *** need to develop long-term research to understand the effects of climatic change on litter stocks and water holding capacity is highlighted,especially in Amazonia.

This paper aims to create visible light driven ternary photocatalysts using zinc oxide(ZnO),cerium(IV)oxide(CeO_(2)),and carbon xerogel(CX) as constituent *** use of CeO_(2) is based on the creation of direct-Z-scheme heterojunctions with the ZnO and the consequent diminishing of charge recombination,whereas the carbon xerogel inclusion is predicted to minimize bandgap energy,decrease electro n-hole reco mbination,and boost specific surface *** re,the choice of the black-wattle tannin as a carbonaceous precursor was targeted at the development of an environmentally friendly and affordable *** existence of the hexagonal phase of zinc oxide and cubic structure of the cerium(IV) oxide in the ternary material was confirmed by X-ray diffractometry and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy,with the latter also suggesting chemical bonding between the ZnO and the CX due to the creation of zinc oxycarbide *** inclusion of the carbon xerogel provokes a significant modification in the morphology of the ternary material,resulting in an increased surface area and smaller particle *** CX/ZnO-CeO_(2) ternary composite obtains the highest photocatalytic efficiency among all the materials studied,degrading 100% of 4-chlorophenol under simulated sunlight and 68% under visible radiation,after 5 *** increased photocatalytic activity can be attributed to the formation of direct Z-scheme heterojunctions between the semiconductors,higher visible light response,and higher specific surface area,as evidenced by the results obtained by active radical scavenging,chronoamperometry,diffuse reflectance spectroscopy,and N_(2) adsorption-desorption isotherms.
