Wave breaking plays an important role in wave-structure interaction. A novel control volume finite element method with adaptive unstructured meshes is employed here to study 3-D breaking waves. The numerical framework consists of a ＂volume of fluid＂ type method for the interface capturing and adaptive unstructured meshes to improve computational efficiency. The numerical model is validated against experimental measurements of breaking wave over a sloping beach and is then used to study the breaking wave impact on a vertical circular cylinder on a slope. Detailed complex interfacial structures during wave impact, such as plunging jet formation and splash-up are captured in the simulation, demonstrating the capability of the present method.

The artificial surfaces are applied to study the pool boiling features, including the bubble behaviors, the surface temperature fluctuation, the heat transfer characteristics and nucleate site interaction. Three sets of experiments are carried out to investigate the influences of cavity shape, cavity size, cavity spacing on the boiling phenomena. Experimental results reveal that bubbling from the cylindrical as well as reentrant cavity is generally stable. The influence of cavity diameter on the bubble behaviors and the temperature fluctuation seems very weak while the effect of cavity depth cannot be neglected. As for the two cavity conditions, the bubble behaviors show the different features depending on the dimensionless cavity spacing. Three significant factors (thermal interaction, hydraulic interaction, bubble coalescence) control the nucleation site interaction, and the competition and dominance of the factors yield four interaction regimes.

The presence of eclogites within continental crust is a key indicator of collisional *** within the Eastern Glenelg basement inlier of the Northern Highland Terrane(NHT)have been redated in order to provide more accurate constraints on the timing of collision within the northern arm of the Grenville *** eclogites yield dates of ca.1200 Ma which are interpreted to record the onset of continent–continent interaction,and the NHT as a whole is thought to represent the lower plate in successive 1200–1000 Ma collision *** Eastern Glenelg basement inlier is viewed as a fragment of the leading edge of the NHT continental basement that was partially subducted along a suture and then exhumed back up the subduction *** in ages of igneous protoliths and intrusive histories,and metamorphic events(this paper)between the NHT basement and the Laurentian foreland,suggests that they were separate crustal blocks until after ca.1600 *** therefore suggest that:(1)the NHT represents a fragment of Archean–Paleoproterozoic crust that was reworked within the ca.1.7–1.6 Ga Labradorian-Gothian belt,although whether it was derived from Laurentia or Baltica is uncertain,and(2)amalgamation of the NHT with the Laurentian foreland did not occur until the terminal stages of the Grenville collision at ca.1000 Ma.

Temperature field numerical simulation about he heat treatment process curve of large turbine rotor is presented. With simulation software Deform3D in according to the heat treatment processing of china First Heavy Machinery, the details of temperature change at the different location of the rotor is to be found. Once knowing the temperature field change, the duplex grain defect long time existed in large forgings can be solved with a quantitative analysis instead of only the qualitative one. Precondition for small metal samples is brought to simulate microstructare and grain size change of large rotor according to the numerical simulation result. Also, consistent feature with real manufacture is showed from the physical experiment, so that the simulation can be used to not only improve the products process but also prevent wasting unnecessary energy and shorten process periods. The rotor quality is controlled thoroughly with plenty of experiments data.

The current paper presents results of dielectric response,pyroelectric behavior and conductivity study of lead-free ferroelectric barium orthovanadate(Ba_(3)(VO_(4))_(2)or Ba_(3)V_(2)O_(8))ceramic,for a wide range of temperature and *** X-ray diffraction study suggests the formation of a single-phase compound in trigonal crystal *** sEM micrograph of gold-coated pellet sample shows well-defined and homogeneous *** studies of dielectric parameters(ε_(r)and tanδ)of the compound as a function of temperature and frequency reveal their independence over a wide range of temperature and *** nature of Polarization versus electric field(P-E)hysteresis loop of Ba_(3)V_(2)O_(8)at room temperature suggests its ferroelectric *** temperature dependence of pyroelectric coefficient and figure of merits of the sample support its dielectric *** nature of variation of dc conductivity with temperature confirms the Arrhenius and negative temperature coefficient of resistance(NTcr)behavior of the material.

New geochronologic data from midcontinental Laurentia demonstrate that emplacement of the 1476-1470 Ma Wolf river granitic batholith was not an isolated igneous event,but was accompanied by regional metamorphism,deformation,and *** for such metamorphism and deformation is best seen in siliciclastic sedimentary rocks of the Baraboo Interval,which were deposited closely following the 1.65-1.63 Ga Mazatzal *** Baraboo Interval strata,muscovite parallel to slatey cleavage,in hydrothermal veins,in quartzite breccia,and in metamorphosed paleosol yielded ^(40)Ar/^(39)Ar plateau ages of 1493-1465 *** addition,U-Th-total Pb dating of neoblastic overgrowths on detrital monazite gave an age of 1488±20 Ma,and recrystallized hematite in folded metapelite gave a mean U/Th-He age of 1411±39 ***-Baraboo,arkosic polymictic conglomerate,which contains detrital zircon with a minimum peak age of 1493 Ma,was intruded by a 1470 Ma granite porphyry at the northeastern margin of the Wolf river *** episode of magmatism,regional deformation and metamorphism,and sedimentation,which is designated herein as the Baraboo orogeny,provides a midcontinental link between the Picuris orogeny to the southwest and the Pinware orogeny to the northeast,completing the extent of early Mesoproterozoic(calymmian)orogenesis for 5000 km along the southern margin of *** transcontinental orogen is unique among Precambrian orogenies for its great width(-1600 km),the predominance of ferroan granites derived from partial melting of lower continental crust,and the prevalence of regional high T-P metamorphism related to advective heating by granitic magmas emplaced in the middle to upper crust.

A geospatial investigation of interlinkage between basement fault architecture and coastal aquifer hydrogeochemistry

The Mahanadi delta,deposited on a series of horst and graben basement structures,is considered an extension of the East Lambert rift of *** study is based on the hydrogeochemical assessment of this deltaic aquifer system and geospatial analysis thereof,to appreciate the basement structure influence on groundwater *** ion chemistry of subsurface waters portrays a distinct saline contamination across the terrain and varied regimes of water types,specifically with respect to southern and northern parts of this aquifer *** of the study indicate a general near surface saline horizon and significant fragmentation of the hydrostatic ***,in turn,implies noteworthy influence of formational water to salinity regimes and basin structural changes for the escape of these waters to surroundings.A plot of recent low intensity earthquakes displays proximity of epicenters to the faults as well as striking similarity to the trend of terrestrial faults indicating multiple reactivations of the *** further corroborate the above findings,spatial pattern analysis of individual hydrochemical variables is carried out which reveals specific clusters of sources(groundwater mixing)and sinks(groundwater dispersion) in proximity to basement fault *** the faults can be disregarded as conduits or barriers owing to their great depth,the overlying sedimentary mass,particularly,the horizons with significant clayey content have been distorted due to post rift subsidence and fault reactivations.A proximity analysis of ionic clusters points towards a greater influence of longitudinal faults to that of the transverse ones on groundwater mixing or dispersion.

In vitro 3D malignant melanoma model for the evaluation of hypericin-loaded oil-in-water microemulsion in photodynamic therapy

Advances in biomimetic three-dimensional(3D) melanoma models have brought new prospects of drug screening and disease modeling, since their physiological relevancy for recapitulating in vivo tumor architectures is more accurate than traditional two-dimensional(2D) cell culture. Gelatin methacryloyl(GelMA) is widely used as a tissue-engineered scaffold hydrogel for 3D cell culture. In the present study, an in vitro 3D malignant melanoma model based on Gel MA was fabricated to evaluate the efficiency of hypericin(Hy)-loaded microemulsion(ME) in photodynamic therapy against melanoma. The ME was produced by the spontaneous emulsification method to enhance the bioavailability of Hy at tumor sites. Hy-loaded MEs were applied to a 3D malignant melanoma model made using 6% Gel MA and the co-culture of B16F10 and Balb/c 3T3 cells,followed by crosslinking using violet light(403 nm). The observation revealed excellent cell viability and the presence of F-actin cytoskeleton network. Hy-loaded MEs exhibited higher phototoxicity and cell accumulation(about threefold) than free Hy, and the cells cultured in the 3D system displayed lower susceptibility(about 2.5-fold) than those in 2D *** findings indicate that the developed MEs are potential delivery carriers for Hy;furthermore, Gel MA hydrogel-based modeling in polydimethylsiloxane(PDMs) molds is a user-friendly and cost-effective in vitro platform to investigate drug penetration and provide a basis for evaluating nanocarrier efficiency for skin cancer and other skin-related diseases.
