PET (polyethylene terephthalate) has found wide applications in textile industry due to its excellent properties as well as low price. PET fabrics can be dyed with disperse dyes in an aqueous bath in the presence of a carrier. However, attempts have been made for years to replace the non-environmental friendly carriers with less toxic ones, so that the need for carriers is eliminated. In this study, Hybrane H1500 as a dendritic additive was used to study the dyeing behavior of PET. Fiber grade PET was compounded with different percentages (0.5, 1, 2, and 3) of Hybrane H1500 using an internal mixer. sample films with 1 mm in thickness were prepared by pressing compounded samples followed by dyeing with a Disperse dye (samaron Yellow 6GsL 200). The optical measurements of dyed samples were measured by Color-Eye 7000A spectrophotometer. It was observed that, K/s as a dye uptake parameter increased by increasing the percentages of the dendritic additive. The amount of C*(Chroma) increased while the ho (hue) did not change too much. The dyeability of prepared samples was attributed to the decrease in glass transition temperature of polymer as studied by analytical technique.
