We present new diagnostics for use in optical laser pump-X-ray Free Electron Laser(XFEL)probe experiments to monitor dimensions,intensity profile and focusability of the XFEL beam and to control initial quality and homogeneity of targets to be driven by optical laser *** developing X-ray imaging,based on the use of an LiF crystal detector,we were able to measure the distribution of energy inside a hard X-ray beam with unprecedented high spatial resolution(~1 mm)and across a field of view larger than some *** diagnostic can be used in situ,provides a very high dynamic range,has an extremely limited cost,and is relatively easy to be implemented in pump-probe *** proposed methods were successfully applied in pump-probe experiments at the sPring-8 Angstrom Compact free electron LAser(sACLA)XFEL facility and its potential was demonstrated for current and future High Energy Density science experiments.

A non-destructive and in-situ technique for the measurement of tritium in materials, namely β-ray-induced X-ray spectrometry （BIXs）, has been developed recently. In the present study a V-4Cr-4Ti alloy was pre-heated at 1000℃ for 2 h to form a recrystallization structure before the tritium absorption experiments were conducted. Firstly the hydrogen isotope gas was charazterized by means of a quadrupole mass spectrometer （QMs） and a small-sized ionization chamber. Then hydrogen isotope absorption tests of V-4Cr-4Ti alloy were performed at 400 ℃ and the atomic concentration of hydrogen isotope in V-4Cr-4Ti alloy was estimated as 0.17% with a tritium content of approximately 2.5 ppm. Experimental results indicate that BIXs is a quite useful tool for quantitatively measuring the tritium content and tritium distribution in the surface layers of vanadium alloys and no strong trapping effects of tritium exist in the pre-heated V-4Cr-4Ti alloy.

Effects of duration of phenytoin administration on mRNA expression of cytochrome P450 and P-glycoprotein in the liver and small intestine of rats

Phenytoin(5,5-diphenylhydantoin;DPH) induces expression of cytochromes P450(CYPs). Interactions between DPH and tacrolimus suggested that the persistence of CYP induction after discontinuation of DPH is dependent on the history of administration and dosing period of DPH. However, the relationship between the duration of DPH administration and expression of CYPs in the liver and small intestine of rats is not known. Alterations in levels of P-glycoprotein(P-gp;MDR1;ABCB1) as well as CYPs cause drug interactions in the small intestine. We examined the effects of the duration of DPH administration on expression of CYPs and P-gp in the liver and small intestine of rats. Rats were treated with DPH(100 mg/kg,peroral(p.o.) twice a day(b.d.)) for 2, 4, 8, and 16 d. mRNA levels of CYPs and P-gp were examined using the total RNA extracted from the liver and duodenum 2 h and 24 h after the final administration of DPH. CYP3 A activities were determined using microsomes. DPH administration for 2 d and 4 d markedly increased m RNA levels of CYPs such as CYP3 A1, CYP3 A2,CYP2 B1, and CYP2 B2 in the liver. A relatively long duration of DPH administration(8 d and16 d) resulted in abolition of the induction of hepatic CYP but increased CYP3 A activities were maintained. These results suggest that the duration of DPH administration could be an important determinant of hepatic CYP induction.

Arthroscopic surgery of the posterior compartment ofthe knee is difficult when only two anterior portals are used for access because of the inaccessibility of the back of the knee. since its introduction, the posterior transseptal portal has been widely employed to access lesions in the posterior compartment. However, special care should be taken to avoid neurovascular injuries around the posteromedial, posterolateral, and transseptal portals. Most importantly, popliteal vessel injury should be avoided when creating and using the transseptal portal during surgery. Purpose of the present study is to describe how to avoid the neurovascular injuries during establishing the posterior three portals and to introduce our safer technique to create the transseptal portal. To date, we have performed arthroscopic surgeries via the transseptal portal in the posterior compartments of 161 knees and have not encountered nerve or vascular injury. In our procedure, the posterior septum is perforated with a 1.5-3.0-mm Kirschner wire that is protected by a sheath inserted from the posterolateral portal and monitored from the posteromedial portal to avoid popliteal vessel injury.

Ischemic stroke is a critical disease which causes serious neurological functional loss such as paresis. Hope for novel therapies is based on the increasing evidence of the presence of stem cell populations in the central nervous system (CNs) and the development of stem-cell-based therapies for stroke patients. Although mesenchymal stem cells (MsCs) represented initially a promising cell source, only a few transplanted MsCs were present near the injured areas of the CNs. Thus, regional stem cells that are present and/or induced in the CNs may be ideal when considering a treatment following ischemic stroke. In this context, we have recently showed that injury/ischemia-induced neural stem/progenitor cells (iNsPCs) and injury/ischemia-induced multipotent stem cells (isCs) are present within post-stroke human brains and post-stroke mouse brains. This indicates that iNsPCs/isCs could be developed for clinical applications treating patients with stroke. The present study introduces the traits of mouse and human iNsPCs, with a focus on the future perspective for CNs regenerative therapies using novel iNsPCs/isCs.

In this article, we propose a convolutional neural network (CNN)-based model, a ResNet-50 based model, for discriminating coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) from Non-COVID-19 using chest CT. We adopted the use of wavelet coefficients of the entire image without cropping any parts of the image as input to the CNN model. One of the main contributions of this study is to implement an algorithm called gradient-weighted class activation mapping to produce a heat map for visually verifying where the CNN model is looking at the image, thereby, ensuring the model is performing correctly. In order to verify the effectiveness and usefulness of the proposed method, we compare the obtained results with that obtained by using pixel values of original images as input to the CNN model. The measures used for performance evaluation include accuracy, sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, negative predictive value, F1 score, and Matthews correlation coefficient (MCC). The overall classification accuracy, F1 score, and MCC for the proposed method (using wavelet coefficients as input) were 92.2%, 0.915%, and 0.839%, and those for the compared method (using pixel values of the original image as input) were 88.3%, 0.876%, and 0.766%, respectively. The experiment results demonstrate the superiority of the proposed method. Moreover, as a comprehensible classification model, the interpretability of classification results was introduced. The region of interest extracted by the proposed model was visualized using heat maps and the probability score was also shown. We believe that our proposed method could provide a promising computerized toolkit to help radiologists and serve as a second eye for them to classify COVID-19 in CT scan screening examination.

A Novel Method for Automated Lung Region segmentation in Chest X-Ray Images

Detecting and segmenting the lung regions in chest X-ray images is an important part in artificial intelligence-based computer-aided diagnosis/detection (AI-CAD) systems for chest radiography. However, if the chest X-ray images themselves are used as training data for the AI-CAD system, the system might learn the irrelevant image-based information resulting in the decrease of system’s performance. In this study, we propose a lung region segmentation method that can automatically remove the shoulder and scapula regions, mediastinum, and diaphragm regions in advance from various chest X-ray images to be used as learning data. The proposed method consists of three main steps. First, employ the simple linear iterative clustering algorithm, the lazy snapping technique and local entropy filter to generate an entropy map. Second, apply morphological operations to the entropy map to obtain a lung mask. Third, perform automated segmentation of the lung field using the obtained mask. A total of 30 images were used for the experiments. In order to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method, two other texture maps, namely, the maps created from the standard deviation filtering and the range filtering, were used for comparison. As a result, the proposed method using the entropy map was able to appropriately remove the unnecessary regions. In addition, this method was able to remove the markers present in the image, but the other two methods could not. The experimental results have revealed that our proposed method is a highly generalizable and useful algorithm. We believe that this method might act an important role to enhance the performance of AI-CAD systems for chest X-ray images.
