Quantitative and qualitative analyses of important bacterial content for public health concern(total bacterial count,total coliforms,faecal coliforms,salmonella and Vibrio cholerae)of cultured fresh water prawn and farm water which has significant role in order to manage sustainable aquaculture were carried *** parameters of prawn(macrobrachium rosenbergii)and farm water were determined by following the IsO standard *** bacterial Count(standard plate count)found in prawn samples ranged from 5.55 to 5.71 log CFU/g while 4.13 to 4.18 log CFU/mL in water *** the other hand,total coliforms found in prawn sample ranged between 1.96 to 2.46 log CFU/g whereas in water sample 2.07 to 2.46 log CFU/mL total coliforms were *** case of faecal coliforms,the number ranged between 0.96 to 1.42 log CFU/g in prawn sample and 1.59 to 1.81 in water *** Vibrio cholerae was absent in both prawns and water sample and salmonella was detected in two tested ponds for both prawn and water sample.

Two sympatric populations of brown planthopper （BPH）, one from rice and the other from Leersia hexandra were collected from each of five locations in malaysia. All the tested malathion-resistant individuals of the rice BPH population and F1 generation （cross between malathion-resistant [usually caught on rice] and malathion- susceptible [usually caught on Leersia]） showed high esterase activity, while all malathion- susceptible individuals on L. hexandra showed low esterase activity. In the F2 generation, all the individuals tested against malathion were approximately 75% resistant and 25% susceptible and the inheritance pattern of esterase activity （high and low esterase activity） segregated in the same manner to a 3：1 ratio. This confirms that resistance to malathion is mono-factorial and inheritance pattern ofesterase activity is also linked to malathion resistance. Carboxylesterase or total esterase activity in BPH is inherited in a simple mendelian fashion that is encoded by a single dominant gene. For the total esterase assay, average esterase activity levels in the rice-infesting population ranged from 17.64 to 19.37 nmoles 1-napthol/mg protein while that in the Leersia-infesting population ranged from 5.29 to 6.11 nmoles 1-napthol/mg protein. In terms of esterase activity, the two sympatric Nilaparvata lugens populations separated into two distinct groups. Results based on the tube color intensity test showed 96% and 98% resistant and susceptible individuals were present in the rice- and Leersia-infesting populations, respectively. In a filter paper test, the rice-infesting population had 94% with high esterase activity while the Leersia-infesting population had 96% with low esterase activity.

AIm: To validate the ability of the Heidelberg Edge Perimeter(HEP) in detecting glaucomatous visual field(VF) defects compared to the Octopus Visual Field(OVF) Analyzer and to determine the test-retest repeatability of both ***: This prospective, cross-sectional study was conducted at Wills Eye Hospital, Philadelphia, PA. Glaucoma subjects and unaffected controls underwent VF testing using HEP standard automated perimetry(sAP) Ⅲ 30-2 Adaptive staircase Thresholding Algorithm(AsTA) FAsT protocol and OVF G-TOP white-on-white strategy. Testing order was randomized. Pearson's correlation coefficient was calculated for both mean deviation(mD) and pattern standard deviation/square root of loss of variance(PsD/s LV). Receiver operating characteristic(ROC) curves were used to determine the diagnostic abilities of both modalities. Glaucoma subjects returned for repeat testing and intraclass correlation coefficients(ICCs) were calculated to assess test-retest repeatability. REsULTs: seventy-nine subjects with glaucoma and 36 unaffected controls were enrolled. HEP and OVF were significantly correlated for both mD(r=-0.84; PsD/s LV(r=0.79; Ps under the ROC curves(AUCs) were also comparable between HEP and OVF for both mD(0.74 and 0.79, respectively; P=0.26) and PsD/sL V(0.74 and 0.82; P=0.08). ICC was high for both HEP (0.96 for mD, 0.95 for PsD/s LV) and OVF(0.82 and 0.88, respectively). mean test duration(min) was significantly shorter for OVF(2.63) compared to HEP(5.15; PsION: HEP and OVF show strong correlation for both mD and PsD/s LV, and have similar validity for detecting glaucoma. The test-retest repeatability is high for both HEP and OVF, however the average testing duration of HEP is significantly longer than that of OVF.

在家蚕疾病中,病毒性疾病是危害茧产品的主要且最普遍的疾病。病毒性蚕软腐病是由BmIFV,BmDNV1和BmDNV2引起的。对印度种质库(Indian Germplasmstock)中的BmDNV1有抗性和敏感的家蚕品种进行了鉴定。利用标准方法对在BmDNV1感染过程中抗性和敏感品系的主要有机成分的变化(包括总蛋白、碳水化合物和脂类)进行了检测。结果表明:随着幼虫年龄的增长,对照组和处理组中有机成分(即蛋白质和碳水化合物)的含量也随之增长,但是处理组的增长水平明显地低于各自对照组的增长水平。接种BmDNV1后,与对照组比较,敏感品种体内的血淋巴和中肠组织的总蛋白的量显著地下降。在抗性品种,接种4天后的总蛋白的量有了显著地下降,之后,下降水平小于各自的对照组。在抗性和敏感品种中,血淋巴和中肠组织中的总碳水化合物的量略有下降。在变化不显著的抗性和敏感品种中,血淋巴和中肠组织中的脂质的量有显著地提高。在敏感家蚕品种,生化变化清晰地显示:BmDNV1感染消耗作为主要能量来源的总蛋白和碳水化合物。这些成分的损耗导致了被感染家蚕的生长受阻。

The major part of the eastern coastline of Red sea belongs to saudi Arabia, which provides great potential for desalination activities, but not entirely free of risk as in general it is not environment-friendly. In recent years, the rapid urbanization processes on west coast of Kingdom have resulted in substantial growth of commercial and industrial centers that added to more water demand. As a consequence, reliance on desalinated water has increased markedly over the last few decades. As a leading producer of desalinated water, saudi Arabia used to process more than 3.29 million m3/day from its plants along the Red sea coast. At the same time, any adequate backup plan lacks to meet regular water demand(s) in case of unforeseen emergencies. Present integrated research studies have identified some of the natural and anthropogenic hazards, which may pose major threats to quality of seawater as well as to the desalination facilities themselves. In view of these hazardous conditions, the overwhelming dependence on seawater desalination appears to be in jeopardy and may affect water management strategy and future socioeconomic development. It is therefore suggested the need of alternate options for cultivation of standby water resources and other management strategies parallel to the seawater desalination on similar priorities.
