Getting physical with medical education:Exercise based virtual anatomy review classes for medical students

The benefits of regular physical activity are well ***,few studies have examined the effectiveness of integrating physical activity(PA)into curricula within a post-secondary *** investigate the incorporation of PA into medical curriculum,we developed a series of optional exercise-based review sessions designed to reinforce musculoskeletal(msK)anatomy course *** synchronous sessions were co-taught by a group fitness instructor and an anatomy *** fitness instructor would lead students through both strength and yoga style exercises,while the anatomy instructor asked questions about relevant anatomical structures related to course material previously *** the sessions,participants were asked to evaluate the classes on their self-reported exam preparedness in improving msK anatomy knowledge,PA levels,and mental *** participants completed surveys;a majority agreed that the classes increased understanding of msK concepts(90.0%)and activity levels(97.7%).many(70.0%)felt that the classes helped reduce *** majority of respondents(90.0%)agreed that the classes contributed to increased feelings of social ***,medical students saw benefit in PA based interventions to supplement msK course *** with increasing activity levels and promoting health behaviours,integrating PA into medical curriculum may improve comprehension of learning material,alleviate stress and foster social connectivity among medical students.

sequence ass.m.ling is an important step for bioinformatics *** the help of next generation sequencing(NGs)technology,high throughput DNA fragment(reads)can be randomly s.m.led from DNA or RNA molecular ***,as the positions of reads being s.m.led are unknown,ass.m.ling process is required for combining overlapped reads to reconstruct the original DNA or RNA *** with traditional sanger sequencing methods,although the throughput of NGs reads increases,the read length is shorter and the error rate is *** introduces several problems in ***,paired-end reads instead of single-end reads can be s.m.led which contain more *** existing ass.m.lers cannot fully utilize this information and fails to ass.m.le longer *** this article,we will revisit the major problems of ass.m.ling NGs reads on genomic,transcriptomic,metagenomic and metatranscriptomic *** will also describe our IDBA package for solving these *** package has adopted several novel ideas in ass.m.ling,including using multiple k,local ass.m.ling and progressive depth *** with existence ass.m.lers,IDBA has better performance on many s.m.lated and real sequencing datasets.

Performance study of jute-epoxy composites/sandwiches under normal ballistic impact

This study is undertaken to explore the use of natural fiber Jute-epoxy(JE),Jute-epoxy-rubber(JRE)sandwich composite for ballistic energy *** absorbed and residual velocities for these composites are evaluated analytically and through Finite Element Analysis(FEA).FE analysis of JE plates is carried out for different thicknesses(3,5,10 and 15 mm).JE plates and JRE sandwiches having the s.m. thickness(15 mm) are fabricated and tested to measure residual velocity and energy *** analytical results are found to agree well with the results of FE analysis with a maximum error of 9%.The study on JE composite plate reveals that thickness influences the energy *** and FE analysis study showed that JRE sandwiches have better energy absorption than JE *** absorption of a JRE sandwich is about 71% greater than JE *** obtained from FEA and testing are in good agreement,s.m.analysis confirms composites failed by fiber rupture and fragmentation.

The Cobourg limestone is a very low porosity rock consisting of lighter nodular regions that are predominantly calcite and darker regions consisting of calcite,quartz,dolomite,and an appreciable clay *** paper presents the application of the theory of multi-phasic composites to estimate the possible maximum effective thermal conductivity of the heterogeneous *** thermal conductivity estimates are expected to be representative of the intact rock,without fractures or fissures that can influence the heat conduction *** estimates are therefore indicative of the thermal properties of the rock in undisturbed regions unaffected by the influences of stress relief and excavation damage during construction of deep ground repositories for the disposal of heat-emitting nuclear waste.

Hippocampal neuronal loss causes cognitive dysfunction in Alzheimer’s *** hippocampal neurogenesis is reduced in patients with Alzheimer’s *** stimulates adult hippocampal neurogenesis in rodents and improves.m.mory and slows cognitive decline in patients with Alzheimer’s ***,the molecular pathways for exercise-induced adult hippocampal neurogenesis and improved cognition in Alzheimer’s disease are poorly ***,regulator of G protein signaling 6(RGs6)was identified as the mediator of voluntary running-induced adult hippocampal neurogenesis in ***,we generated novel RGs6fl/fl;APP_(sWE) mice and used retroviral approaches to examine the impact of RGs6 deletion from dentate gyrus neuronal progenitor cells on voluntary running-induced adult hippocampal neurogenesis and cognition in an amyloid-based Alzheimer’s disease mouse *** found that voluntary running in APP_(sWE) mice restored their hippocampal cognitive impairments to that of control *** cognitive rescue was abolished by RGs6 deletion in dentate gyrus neuronal progenitor cells,which also abolished running-mediated increases in adult hippocampal *** hippocampal neurogenesis was reduced in sedentary APP_(sWE) mice versus control mice,with basal adult hippocampal neurogenesis reduced by RGs6 deletion in dentate gyrus neural precursor ***6 was expressed in neurons within the dentate gyrus of patients with Alzheimer’s disease with significant loss of these RGs6-expressing ***,RGs6 mediated voluntary running-induced rescue of impaired cognition and adult hippocampal neurogenesis in APP_(sWE) mice,identifying RGs6 in dentate gyrus neural precursor cells as a possible therapeutic target in Alzheimer’s disease.

Clear felling and burning effects on soil nitrogen transforming bacteria and actinomycetes population in Chittagong University campus, Bangladesh

The effect of forests clear felling and associated burning on the population of soil nitrogen transforming bacteria and actinomycetes are reported at three pair sites of Chittagong University campus, Bangla- desh in monsoon tropical climate. Clear felled area or burnt site and 15-21 year mixed plantation of native and exotic species, situated side by side on low hill having Typic Dystrochrepts soil was represented at each pair site. At all the three pair sites, clear felled area or burnt site showed very significantly （p~_0.001） lower population of actinomycetes, Rhizobium, Nitros.m.nas, Nitrobacter and ammonifying as well as deni- trifying bacteria compared to their adjacent mixed plantation. From en- vironmental consideration, this finding has implication in managing natural ecosystem.

Permanent displacement of a bridge column can be directly measured during the inspection after near-fault ***,the engineer needs to estimate the expected residual drift at the design stage to determine if the bridge seismic performance is *** most direct method to estimate the residual displacement is nonlinear response history analysis,which is time cons.m.ng and ***,an attractive but indirect method is generating estimated residual displacement spectra that depend on displacement ductility demand,column period,site conditions,and earthquake *** the period and the expected displacement ductility demand for the column,the residual drift response spectra curves can be utilized to estimate the residual drift *** drift spectra that are applicable to RC bridge columns in different parts of the United states were developed based on nonlinear response history analyses using a comprehensive collection of recorded and synthetic near-fault ground motions and were linked to one-second spectral acceleration(s1)of the AAsHTO *** was also found that the residual drift ratio is below one percent when s1 is less than 0.6 g.

Nonlinear forced vibration in a subcritical regime of a porous functionally graded pipe conveying fluid with a retaining clip

This study examines the nonlinear behaviors of a clamped-clamped porous pipe made of a functionally graded material(FGm) that conveys fluids and is equipped with a retaining clip, focusing on primary resonance and subcritical dynamics. The nonlinear governing equations for the FGm pipe are derived by the extended Hamilton's principle, and subsequently discretized through the application of the Galerkin *** direct method of multi-scales is then used to solve the derived equations. A thorough analysis of various parameters, including the clip stiffness, the power-law index, the porosity, and the clip location, is conducted to gain a comprehensive understanding of the system's nonlinear dynamics. Through the analysis of the first natural frequency, the study highlights the influence of the flow velocity and the clip stiffness, while the comparisons with metallic pipes emphasize the role of FGm composition. The examination of the forced response curves reveals saddle-node bifurcations and their dependence on parameters such as the detuning parameter and the power-law index, offering valuable insights into the system's nonlinear resonant behavior. Furthermore, the frequency-response curves illustrate the hardening nonlinearities influenced by factors such as the porosity and the clip stiffness, revealing nuanced effects on the system response and resonance characteristics. This comprehensive analysis enhances the understanding of nonlinear behaviors in FGm porous pipes with a retaining clip, providing key insights for practical engineering applications in system design and optimization.

Validation of an Optimized spectrophotometric method for the selective Determination of Labetalol Hydrochloride

A s.m.le sensitive and economical method for the determination of labetalol hydrochloride has been proposed, based on the reaction of labetalol with sodium nitroprusside and hydroxylamine hydrochloride in sodium dihydrogen phosphate-sodium hydroxide buffer solution of pH 12. The green-blue color produced due to the formation of a nitroso derivative has been measured at 695 nm. The Beer＇s range was obeyed in the concentration range of 2-51 μg·mL^-1 with molar absorptivity of 0.48 × 10^4 L·mol^-1·cm^-1. Rigorous statistical analyses were performed for the validation of the method. A detailed investigation of the selectivity of the method has been done to find it to be highly selective for the determination of labetalol hydrochloride in the presence of its acidic degradation product and common excipients of formulations. The proposed method was successfully applied to the determination of labetalol hydrochloride in the laboratory prepared dosage forms. Comparison of the means of the proposed procedure with a reference method using point as well as interval hypotheses showed no statistically significant difference. The developed method was extended to investigate its applicability to biological s.m.les.
