Activated sericite:An Efficient and Effective Natural Clay Material for Attenuation of Cesium from Aquatic Environment

sericite is mica-based natural clay that is annealed at 800 ℃ for 4 h, followed by acid activation using 3.0 mol L-1HCl at 100℃. The interaction of cesium(i), Cs(i), with sericite could provide useful data for the study of soil erosion or mass water movement utilizing the natural radioactive Cs. in this study sericite and activated sericite were used to assess their suitability in the attenuation of Cs from the aquatic environment under both batch and column experiments. The surface morphological studies indicated that a disordered and heterogeneous surface structure was exhibited by the activated sericite, whereas the native sericite exhibited a compact and layered structure. The Brunauer-Emmett-Teller(BET) specific surface area results indicated a significant increase in the surface area due to the activation of sericite. The batch reactor data collected for various parametric studies revealed that an increase in p H(from 2.0 to 8.0) and sorbate concentration(from 10.0 to 100.0 mg L-1) apparently favored the attenuation of Cs(i). The timedependent sorption data revealed that Cs(i) uptake was very rapid, and it achieved its saturation value within just 50 min of *** kinetic modeling studies indicated that the uptake of Cs(i) followed a pseudo-second-order rate equation; hence, the attenuation capacity of these solids for Cs(i) was estimated to be 0.858 and 4.353 mg g-1for sericite and activated sericite solids, *** adsorption isotherm modeling data showed a reasonably good applicability of the Freundlich model than the Langmuir *** effect of background electrolyte concentrations(0.001 to 0.1 mol L-1) of Mg(NO3)2indicated that the presence of this electrolyte could not significantly affect the percent removal of Cs(i) by activated sericite. Furthermore, the fixed-bed column reactor operations were performed to obtain the breakthrough data, which were fitted well to the Thomas non-linear equation. Therapeutic potential of exercise-hormone irisin in Alzheimer's disease

irisin is a myokine that is generated by cleavage of the membrane protein fibronectin type Ⅲ domain-containing protein 5(FNDC5) in response to physical exercise. studies reveal that irisin/FNDC5 has neuroprotective functions against Alzheimer's disease, the most common form of dementia in the elderly, by improving cognitive function and reducing amyloid-β and tau pathologies as well as neuroinflammation in cell culture or animal models of Alzheimer's disease. Although current and ongoing studies on irisin/FNDC5 show promising results, further mechanistic studies are required to clarify its potential as a meaningful therapeutic target for alleviating Alzheimer's disease. We recently found that irisin treatment reduces amyloid-β pathology by increasing the activity/levels of amyloid-β-degrading enzyme neprilysin secreted from astrocytes. Herein, we present an overview of irisin/FNDC5's protective roles and mechanisms against Alzheimer's disease.

High mobility group box 1 in the central nervous system:regeneration hidden beneath inflammation

High-mobility group box 1 was first discovered in the calf thymus as a DNA-binding nuclear protein and has been widely studied in diverse fields,including neurology and ***-mobility group box 1 in the extracellular space functions as a pro-inflammatory damage-associated molecular pattern,which has been proven to play an important role in a wide variety of central nervous system disorders such as ischemic stroke,Alzheimer’s disease,frontotemporal dementia,Parkinson’s disease,multiple sclerosis,epilepsy,and traumatic brain *** drugs that inhibit high-mobility group box 1 as a damage-associated molecular pattern,such as glycyrrhizin,ethyl pyruvate,and neutralizing anti-high-mobility group box 1 antibodies,are commonly used to target high-mobility group box 1 activity in central nervous system *** it is commonly known for its detrimental inflammatory effect,high-mobility group box 1 has also been shown to have beneficial pro-regenerative roles in central nervous system *** this narrative review,we provide a brief summary of the history of high-mobility group box 1 research and its characterization as a damage-associated molecular pattern,its downstream receptors,and intracellular signaling pathways,how high-mobility group box 1 exerts the repair-favoring roles in general and in the central nervous system,and clues on how to differentiate the pro-regenerative from the pro-inflammatory *** targeting high-mobility group box 1 in the central nervous system may benefit from differentiating between the two functions rather than overall suppression of high-mobility group box 1.

Relation between etching profile and voltage-current shape of sintered siC etching by atmospheric pressure plasma

Numerical modelling of a low power non-transferred arc plasma reactor for methane conversion

Thermal flow characteristics and the methane conversion reaction in a low power arc plasma reactor for efficient storage and transport of methane,which is the main component of shale gas,were *** temperature and velocity distributions were calculated according to the type of discharge gases and arc current level by a self-developed magnetohydrodynamics (MHD)code and a commercial ANsYs-FLUENT code;the transport of chemical species was analyzed as including the chemical reactions of methane *** simulated results were verified by the comparison of calculated and measured arc voltages with permissible low error as under 4%.Three C2 hydrocarbon gases with ethane (C2H6),ethylene (C2H4),and acetylene (C2H2)were selected as the converted species of methane from experimental *** mass fraction of C2 hydrocarbons and hydrogen as the product of the conversion reaction at the reactor was also *** values show good agreement with the actual experimental results in that the major conversion reaction occurred in C2H2 and hydrogen,and the conversions to C2H6,C2H4,and hydrogen were minor reactions of methane pyrolysis conversion.

Ti3 AL-Nb-Mo composites were prepared by sHs using initial powder mixtures of Ti-Al-Nb-Mo and their corrosion and mechanical properties were studied to develop bioand environmental materials. The composites reached 99.8% of theoretical density after the direct consolidation. The composites shows equiaxed primary a2 in a matrix of fine secondary a2 plates and ordered 82 (Bo) forming a basket weave structure. The strain rate sensitivity (m = dlnσ/dlne) at 2% strain is 0.008. Corrosion potential and corrosion rate of the composites formed by sHs were -151. 5m VsHE and 5. 72× 10^(-8)A/cm2 for Ti3 Al-10Nb-1. 5Mo and - 138.4m VsHE and 4. 12×10^(-8)cm2 for Ti3 Al-12Nb-1.5Mo in a 50% NaOH-10%FeCi3 solution, respectively. Corrosion resistance decreased with niobium content in the composites and chloride content in the aqueous solution. selective corrosion of a2 phase in a matrix occurred in the corrosion environment which suggests that the corrosion potential and rate changes are related to the niobium content and Q2 phase in a matrix.

Revisiting cerebral endothelial cells in Alzheimer’s disease

Alzheimer’s disease(AD)is the most common neurodegenerative disorder characterized by slow and progressive decline of cognitive and memory *** only approximately 5%of the cases,AD is familial,as often predisposed by genetic mutations(Hoogmartens et al.,2021),while sporadic AD accounts for approximately 95%of the *** amyloid cascade hypothesis is one of the fundamental hypotheses put out to explain AD pathogenesis as dysregulated homeostasis of amyloid-β(Aβ)peptides that leads to the accumulation of Aβplaques in the parenchyma,an anatomical hallmark of AD.
