The off-host survival and viability of a native and non-native fish louse （Argulus, Crustacea： Branchiura）

Fish ectoparasites are introduced to water bodies or aquaculture sys.e.s along with their hosts. Argulid fish lice can survive off-host for a given time, and in spite of quarantine measures might also be introduced via the trans.e. of water. However, they must cope with varying abiotic conditions without access to food. We investigated the effect of temperature （5 to 28℃） on the off-host survival time of Argulus japonicus, an invasive s.e.ies which is apparently increasing its distribution, and compared this with the european A. foliaceus. A clear effect of temperature on the off-host survival time of all stages of both s.e.ies was demonstrated. Larval and juvenile A. japonicus survived up to 9 days at 22℃ and in the case of adults up to 13 days at 15℃. By comparison, larval A. foliaceus survived up to 5 days at 15℃, adults up to 14 days at 9℃ and juveniles up to 7 days at 9℃ and 15℃. Thus, A. japonicus is more resistant to starvation at higher temperatures under controlled off-host conditions and A. foli- aceus is more resistant to starvation at lower temperatures. Infectivity of A. japonicus decreased linearly with the time s.e.t off-host after 2 days for larvae and 4 days for adults. Temperature only had a significant effect on the infectivity of both develop- mental stages after 24 hours off-host between 13-23℃ for larvae and 13-18℃ for adults. In conclusion both s.e.ies can potentially survive off-host pelods in water transports for up to 13-14 days as adults. Their survival is shorter as larvae. This study demonstrates that transportation of water has the potential to introduce Argulus s.e.ies

Merging bound states in the continuum in an open acoustic resonator

Bound states in the continuum （BICs） are perfectly localized resonances despite embedding in the continuum ***,an isolated BIC is very sensitive to the structure ***,we report merging acoustic BICs in a single open resonator,robust against the structure *** find that both symmetry-protected BIC and Friedrich-Wintgen BIC are sustained in a single coupled waveguide-resonator *** varying the height and length of the resonator,these two BICs move toward each other and merge into a single one at a critical *** to an individual BIC,the merged BIC is robust against fabrication error because its Q-factor is proportional to ΔL-4,whereΔL embodies the structure *** es.e.ce of this.e.traordinary phenomenon is perfectly explained by the two-and three-level approximations of the effective nonHermitian ***,we present direct experimental demonstrations of the moving and merging of BICs in a coupled 3D waveguide-resonator,which are evidenced by the vanishing of the linewidth of Fano resonance in the transmission *** results may find exciting applications in designing high-quality acoustic sources,sensors and filters.

Free vibration and trans.e.t response of double curved beams connected by intermediate straight beams

This paper investigates the free vibration and trans.e.t response of interconnected structures including double curved beams and intermediate straight beams,which are all constructed from functionally graded porous(FGP) materials. The strain potential and kinetic energies of each beam along with the work done by the external force are calculated. Additionally, a higher-order beam element is introduced to derive stiffness and mass matrices, along with the force vector. The curved and straight beams are discretized, and their as.e.bled stiffness, mass matrices, and force vectors, are *** conditions at the joints are used to derive the total matrices of the entire structure. subsequently, the natural frequencies and trans.e.t response of the sys.e. are determined. The accuracy of the mathematical model and the self-developed computer program is validated through the comparison of the obtained results with those of the existing literature and commercial software ANsYs, demonstrating excellent ***, a comprehensive study is conducted to investigate the effects of various parameters on the free vibration and trans.e.t response of the considered structure.

OPTIMIZATION OF THe sYNTHesIs OF ACRYLAMIDe HYDROGeL BY γ-RAY IRRADIATION

Hydrogels have been synthesized from 10%, 20%, 30%, 40%, 50% and 60% aqueous solutions of acrylamide monomer by gamma radiation employing doses in the range of 0.2-30 kGy from a Co-60 source. The effect of solution concentration, γ-ray dose, pH and time was studied in order to observe the optimizing conditions in the characterization of hydrogels. Gel fraction increases with dose for all concentrations indicating hundred-percentage conversion of gel at doses 5 kGy for homogenous solutions in the range of 20%-50% concentration. On the other hand, 10% solution provides conversion less than 86% even at 30 kGy, whereas 60% monomer makes an inhomogeneous solution which stile gives about 100% gel fraction. s.e.ling of hydrogels under water with res.e.t to time varies with both the doses and concentrations due to the change of crosslinking density in the gels. The maximum volume change of hydrogels during s.e.ling and water desorption mainly occurs within 24 h. s.e.ling is also enhanced with the rise of pH due to change of ionic content of the solvent. Considering the amount of gel fraction and the properties of hydrogel, the samples prepared from 20% solution at 5 kGy show better results. Moreover, the effect of bacteria on hydrogel was found to be nil, suggesting a prohibition of growth of microorganism in it.

This paper presents an effective solution to the problem of stabilizing a given but arbitrary fractional-order sys.e. using a first order controller 1 2 3 C（s） =（x s +x） /（s +x） .The problem is solved by determining the global stability region in the controller parameter space[x1,x2,x3]using D-decomposition *** expressions are derived for the purpose of obtaining the stability boundaries of this region which are described by real root boundary,infinite root boundary and complex root ***,the complete set of stabilizing first order controller parameters is *** algorithm has a simple and reliable result which is illustrated by several examples,and hence is practically useful in the analysis and design of fractional-order control sys.e.s.

This paper studies the asymptotic stability of traveling we solutions of nonlinear sys.e.s of integral-differential equations. It has been establis.e. that linear stability of traveling waves is.e.uivalent to nonlinear stability and some "nice structure" of the s.e.trum of an associated operator implies the linear stability. By using the method of variation of parameter, the author defines some complex analytic function, called the evans function. The zeros of the evans function corresponds to the eigenvalues of the associated linear operator. By calculating the zeros of the evans function, the asymptotic stability of the travling wave solutions is.e.tablis.e..

Combinatorial therapies for spinal cord injury repair

spinal cord injuries have profound detrimental effects on individuals, regardless of whether they are caused by trauma or non-traumatic events. The compromised regeneration of the spinal cord is primarily attributed to damaged neurons, inhibitory molecules, dysfunctional immune response, and glial scarring. Unfortunately, currently, there are no effective treatments available that can fully repair the spinal cord and improve functional outcomes. Nevertheless, numerous pre-clinical approaches have been studied for spinal cord injury recovery, including using biomaterials, cells, drugs, or technological-based strategies. Combinatorial treatments, which target various as.e.ts of spinal cord injury pathophysiology, have been extensively tes.e. in the last decade. These approaches aim to synergistically enhance repair proces.e. by addressing various obstacles faced during spinal cord regeneration. Thus, this review intends to provide scientists and clinicians with an overview of pre-clinical combinatorial approaches that have been developed toward the solution of spinal cord regeneration as well as update the current knowledge about spinal cord injury pathophysiology with an emphasis on the current clinical management.
