Curious eroded depressions,most resembling an eye shedding an elongate tear,are found in gently sloping,intertidal,carbonate-rich arenite outcropping on the sea coast near Lakes Entrance,Victoria,southeast *** depressions,known locally as“Tears of the Virgin,”are evidently formed by multiple generations of a barnacle,Chthamalus antennatus Darwin,1854 in association with *** the round part of a depression offers the barnacle a modicum of protection from impacts during high tides,it is also partially inhabited by cyanobacteria,which extend into and tend to fill the elongate *** such,this appears to be the first case of mutualism between a higher invertebrate and cyanobacteria,with the cyanobacteria reducing the barnacle’s risk of desiccation while receiving metabolic wastes from it during low *** is also the first record of a balanomorph barnacle eroding calcareous arenite beneath its shell,the net effect of which would be expected to reduce its adhesion to the ***,the siliceous residue,resulting from the barnacle’s dissolution of the more than 80%of the calcite-rich sedimentary rock,is sequestered in delicate folds on the inside of the shell wall as it grows.A brief review of cirripedes capable of excavation includes the first photographic documentation of excavation of a mollusc shell by a verrucomorph.

A total of 400 surface soil(0–15 cm) samples were collected from cultivated soils representing four soil series,namely,Hariharapur,Debatoli,Rajpora and Neeleswaram in Orissa,Jharkhand,Himachal Pradesh and Kerala states of India,respectively,and were analyzed to measure the contents of total and extractable Mn and Fe,to establish the relationship among total and extractable Mn and Fe and soil properties,and to characterize the spatial distribution pattern of Mn and Fe in some cultivated acid soils of India. The contents of total as well as extractable Mn and Fe varied widely with extractants and soil series. However,the amounts of Mn or Fe extracted by diethylene triamine penta-acetic acid(DTPA),Mehlich 1,Mehlich 3,0.1 mol L-1 HCl and ammonium bicarbonate DTPA(ABDTPA) were significantly correlated with each other(P sed on the DTPA-extractable contents and the critical limits(2 mg Mn kg-1soil and 4.5 mg Fe kg-1 soil) published in the literature,Mn and Fe deficiencies were observed in 7%–23% and 1%–3% of the soil samples,respectively. The content of soil organic carbon(sOC) had greater influence on total and DTPA-extractable Fe than did soil pH. Geostatistical analysis revealed that total and DTPA-extractable Mn and Fe contents in the acid soils were influenced by soil pH,sOC content,and exchangeable cations like potassium,calcium and magnesium. spatial distribution maps of total and DTPA-extractable Mn and Fe in soil indicated different distribution patterns.

In this paper, we first formulate a second-order multiobjective symmetric primal-dual pair over arbitrary cones by introducing two different functions f ： R^n × R^m → Rk and g ： R^n × R^m → R^l in each k-objectives as well as l-constraints. Further, appropriate duality relations are established under second-order（F, α, ρ, d）-convexity assumptions. A nontrivial example which is second-order（F, α, ρ, d）-convex but not secondorder convex/F-convex is also illustrated. Moreover, a second-order minimax mixed integer dual programs is formulated and a duality theorem is established using second-order（F, α, ρ, d）-convexity assumptions. A self duality theorem is also obtained by assuming the functions involved to be skew-symmetric.

In this paper, iterative or successive approximation methods for the Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman-lsaacs equations （HJBIEs） arising in both deterministic and stochastic optimal control for affine nonlinear systems are developed. Convergence of the methods are established under fairly mild assumptions, and examples are solved to demonstrate the effectiveness of the methods. However, the results presented in the paper are preliminary, and do not yet imply in anyway that the solutions computed will be stabilizing. More improvements and experimentation will be required before a satisfactory algorithm is developed.

In the present paper, we have investigated the peristaltic flow of hyperbolic tangent fluid in a curved channel. The governing equations of hyperbolic tangent fluid model for curved channel are derived including the effects of curvature. The highly nonlinear partial differential equations are simplified by using the wave frame transformation,long wave length and low Reynolds number assumptions. The reduced nonlinear partial differential equation is solved analytically with the help of homotopy perturbation method (HPM). The physical features of pertinent parameters have been discussed by plotting the graphs of pressure rise and stream functions.

Prostate cancer （PCa） is one of the most common cancers among men in Western developed countries and its incidence has increased considerably in many other parts of the world, including China. The etiology of PCa is largely unknown but is thought to be multifactorial, where inherited genetics plays an important role. In this article, we first briefly review results from studies of familial aggregation and genetic susceptibility to PCa. We then recap key findings of rare and high-penetrance PCa susceptibility genes from linkage studies in PCa families. We devote a significant portion of this article to summarizing discoveries of common and Iow-penetrance PCa risk-associated single-nucleotide polymorphisms （sNPs） from genetic association studies in PCa cases and controls, especially those from genome-wide association studies （GWAss）. A strong focus of this article is to review the literature on the potential clinical utility of these implicated genetic markers. Most of these published studies described PCa risk estimation using a genetic score derived from multiple risk-associated sNPs and its utility in determining the need for prostate biopsy. Finally, we comment on the newly proposed concept of genetic score; the notion is to treat it as a marker for genetic predisposition, similar to family history, rather than a diagnostic marker to discriminate PCa patients from non-cancer patients. Available evidence to date suggests that genetic score is an objective and better measurement of inherited risk of PCa than family history. Another unique feature of this article is the inclusion of genetic association studies of PCa in Chinese and Japanese populations.

We analyze the structure and composition of old-growth wet evergreen forest of Nelliampathy hills, the chain of hills lying immediately south of Palghat Gap, in the southern Western Ghats of India. We sampled 30 plots of 0.1 ha each （50 m × 20 m） at six locations enumerating all plants ？ 10 cm girth at breast height. We pooled the data and computed various structural parameters. There were 152 species of 120 genera and 51 families of the study area. Of these, 118 （77%） were trees, 24 were climbers （16%） and 10 were shrubs （7%）. species richness varied from 58–99 per 0.5 ha sample and shannon indices of diversity ranged from 4.4 to 5.2. Fifty-nine per cent （89 species） of the species were Indian sub-continent elements and 34% （51 species） are endemic to the Western Ghats. Fifteen species are listed in various threat categories. Aglaia and Litsea were the most species-rich genera. Numbers of families ranged from 27–43 per 0.5 ha sample. Euphorbiaceae and Lauraceae were the most species-rich families. stand density varied from 1714 to 2244 stems·ha？1 and basal area from 53.6 to 102.1 m2·ha？1. The vegetation was dominated by 3–6 species and six dominance patterns characterized the species composition within the hill complex. The old-growth evergreen forests of Nelliampathy exist as small fragments rich in biodiversity and can be used as benchmarks for comparison with disturbed forests.

In this paper, we consider the relativistic Hamilton–Jacobi(HJ) equation and study Hawking radiation(HR) of scalar particles from uncharged Grumiller black hole(GBH) which is affordable for testing in *** is also known as Rindler modified schwarzschild BH. Our aim is not only to investigate the effect of the Rindler parameter a on the Hawking temperature(TH), but to examine whether there is any discrepancy between the computed horizon temperature and the standard THas well. For this purpose, in addition to its naive coordinate system, we study on the three regular coordinate systems, which are Painlev′e–Gullstrand(PG), ingoing Eddington–Finkelstein(IEF),and Kruskal–szekeres(Ks) coordinates. In all coordinate systems, we calculate the tunneling probabilities of incoming and outgoing scalar particles from the event horizon by using the HJ equation. It has been shown in detail that the considered HJ method is concluded with the conventional THin all these coordinate systems without giving rise to the famous factor-2 problem. Furthermore, in the PG coordinates Parikh–Wilczek's tunneling(PWT) method is employed in order to show how one can integrate the quantum gravity(QG) corrections to the semiclassical tunneling rate by including the effects of self-gravitation and back reaction. We then show how this yields a modification in the TH.
