Molecular markers provide a useful method for genotype characterization and allow a high precision determination of the genetic relationship between cultivars and varieties. A system based on DNA sequences—which is known as DNA barcoding—will choose one or several standard loci which can be sequenced and compared to differentiate between species. In this research, the ITs, matK, and trnH-psbA sequences were evaluated for the molecular identification of seven F. carica genotypes, generating complete sequences for the first two loci, but unable to produce bidirectional sequences by using the trnH-psbA sequence. The ITs sequence presented the highest variation rates, while the phylogeny constructed with the matK sequence obtained the highest percentage of solved monophyletic groups. Through Pearson’s correlation analysis, it was possible to determine the existence of a significant correlation between the ITs region and psbA-trnH, and the matK and psbA-trnH sequences, but not between ITs and matK. The phylogenies constructed with the ITs + matK barcodes and ITs + matK + psbA-trnH presented the highest percentage for resolution. However, considering the cost efficiency and the facilitated recovery by using PCR, the matK + ITs combination is recommended.

Background and Objective: Percutaneous central venous cannulation is a common invasive procedure. In comparison with an external landmark technique, the advantages of ultrasound-guided venous access include direct visualization of the anatomy and in vivo visualization of venous cannulation. Methods: We evaluated an ultrasound-guided technique for infraclavicular axillary vein cannulation, focusing on its ease of use, success rate and complications rate. One hundred and twenty patients who submitted to central venous catheter placement were punctured using our technique. The patients were positioned so that their ipsilateral upper limb was abducted at 90° to the longitudinal axis, which makes it possible to visualize the infraclavicular vessels due to the elevation of the clavicle, thereby improving accessibility. Results: Cannulation was successful in all patients. The median time from the start of the first puncture (of the skin) until the aspiration of blood was 15 s (range 7 - 135 s). Both infraclavicular axillary veins were cannulated, and the vein was punctured successfully at the first attempt in 95% of the patients, without complications during the procedure. Conclusion: We propose an ultrasound-guided infraclavicular approach of the axillary vein, with a high success rate and no complications in the present cohort.

The aim of the current study was to determine the nature of the seasonal variability of the suspended Particulate Matter(sPM) fluxes from the drainage basin to the estuary in a macrotidal region(Northeastern Brazil),and the estuarine response to a seawater intrusion regarding sediment deposition,which will support the understanding of the global transport of materials at the continent-ocean *** structure data was acquired using a Conductivity,Temperature,and Depth(CTD) probe with a sampling frequency of 4 *** particulate material was measured by gravimetric measurements applied to exact filtered volume *** outflows were measured through the use of an Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler(ADCP) with frequency of 1.5 *** horizontal thermal and saline gradients varied from warmer and less saline waters(2014) to cooler and saline waters(2015).The gradient behavior when linked to volume transport and sPM flows,suggests a minimization of the fluvial flows in 2015,easing the advance of coastal water(CW) towards the inner estuary,leading to an inversion of the baroclinic pressure *** bottom saline front,generated by the entrance of coastal water masses,caused an increase in sPM concentrations due to increased fluid density,resuspension of previously deposited sediment,and erosion of *** concentrations of sPM indicate higher volume transport suggesting a hydraulic barrier due to the change/inversion of the baroclinic pressure gradient,resulting in water and material *** deposition was observed during neap tide,while during spring tide the material is resuspended,increasing the concentration,generating cycles of deposition and erosion during the neap-spring *** sediment in suspension that reach the estuary,even with low fluvial volume,stay in this environment forming new islands because of *** deposition rates or sediment cycling,if generated by the hydraulic barrier,may indicate that the flo

This paper describes a stripping method for the determination of zidovudine at the submicromolar concentration levels. This method is based on the controlled adsorptive accumulation of zidovudine at the thin-film mercury electrode, followed by a linear-sweep stripping voltammetry measurement of the surface species. Optimal experimental conditions include a NaOH solution of 2.0 × 10–3 mol●L–1 (sup-porting electrolyte), an accumulation potential of –0.30 V and a scan rate of 100 mV?s–1. The response of zidovudine is linear over the concentration range 0.01 - 0.08 ppm. After an accumulation time of 5 minutes, the detection limit was found to be 0.67 ppb (2.5 × 10–9 mol●L–1). More convenient methods to measure zidovudine concentration in the presence of the didanosine, acyclovir, nevirapine, lamivudine, and efavirenz, were also investigated. The presence of zidovudine together with ATP or ssDNA demonstrates the utility of this method.

This critical review of the literature shows that there is a close link between the microbiome,the gut,and the brain in Parkinson's *** vagus nerve,the main component of the parasympathetic nervous system,is involved in the regulation of immune response,digestion,heart rate,and control of *** can detect microbiota metabolites through its afferents,transferring this gut information to the central nervous *** and clinical studies have shown the important role played by the gut microbiome and gut-related factors in disease development and progression,as well as treatment *** findings suggest that the gut microbiome may be a valuable target for new therapeutic strategies for Parkinson's *** studies are needed to better understand the underlying biology and how this axis can be modulated for the patient's benefit.

To compare liver proteolysis and proteasome activation in steatotic liver grafts conserved in University of Wisconsin (UW) and Institut Georges Lopez-1 (IGL-1) *** liver grafts from male obese Zücker rats were conserved in UW and IGL-1 solutions for 24 h at 4 °Cand subjected to “ex vivo” normo-thermic perfusion (2 h; 37 °C). Liver proteolysis in tissue specimens and perfusate was measured by reverse-phase high performance liquid chromatography. Total free amino acid release was correlated with the activation of the ubiquitin proteasome system (UPs: measured as chymotryptic-like activity and 20s and 19s proteasome), the prevention of liver injury (transaminases), mitochondrial injury (confocal microscopy) and inflammation markers (TNF 1 alpha, high mobility group box-1 (HGMB-1) and PPAR gamma), and liver apoptosis (TUNEL assay, cytochrome c and caspase 3).REsULTsProfiles of free AA (alanine, proline, leucine, isoleucine, methionine, lysine, ornithine, and threonine, among others) were similar for tissue and reperfusion effluent. In all cases, the IGL-1 solution showed a significantly higher prevention of proteolysis than UW (P schemia reperfusion. Livers conserved in IGL-1 presented more effective prevention of ATP-breakdown and more inhibition of UPs activity (measured as chymotryptic-like activity). In addition, the prevention of liver proteolysis and UPs activation correlated with the prevention of liver injury (AsT/ALT) and mitochondrial damage (revealed by confocal microscopy findings) as well as with the prevention of inflammatory markers (TNF1alpha and HMGB) after reperfusion. Background:Children with congenital heart disease(CHD),even after surgical approaches,and especially those who undergo staged procedures in theﬁrst months of life,remain vulnerable to readmissions and complications,requiring very close monitoring and differentiated intervention ***:Descriptive and exploratory study,of the experience report type,which presents the process of building the high-risk outpatient clinic for complex congenital heart diseases(AAR)at the Instituto do Coração(InCor).Results:Report of the path taken to structure the AAR,demonstrating the organization,interface with the multidisciplinary team,admission and discharge criteria,training,and patient proﬁ*** theseﬁve years of care,275 patients were treated,59.65%with biventricular interstage physiology,followed by univentricular interstage physiology(34.55%),residual defects after surgical procedures(3.63%),tumors with risk of mechanical obstruction(1.45%)and patients with an intrauterine approach(0.72%).The signiﬁcant number of critical patients who were successfully discharged from hospital(44.72%),the low mortality rate due to sudden deaths at home and the high adherence to follow-up cor-roborate the impact of this specialized ***:Despite the limitations of the study,this experi-ence report showed that with few resources,there is the possibility of organizing an AAR with differentiated care,with the objective of early detection and treatment of residual injuries,identiﬁcation of early interventions,edu-cation of parents for follow-up of their children,resulting in individualized treatment,promoting a better quality of life for this population.

In recent decades,life expectancy has been increasing *** this scenario,health interventions are ne-cessary to improve prognosis and quality of life of elderly with cardiovascular risk factors and cardiovascular ***,the number of elderly patients included in clinical trials is low,thus current clinical practice guidelines do not include specific *** document aims to review prevention recommendations focused in patients≥75 years with high or very high cardiovascular risk,regarding objectives,medical treatment options and also including physical exercise and their inclusion in cardiac rehabilitation ***,we will show why geriatric syndromes such as frailty,dependence,cognitive impair-ment,and nutritional status,as well as comorbidities,ought to be considered in this population regarding their important pro-gnostic impact.
