Chronic inflammatory responses have long been observed to be associated with various types of cancer and play decisive roles at different stages of cancer development. Inflammasomes, which are potent induc- ers of interleukin （IL）-I~ and IL-18 during infammation, are large protein complexes typically consisting of a Nod-like receptor （NLR）, the adapter protein AsC, and Caspase-1. During malignant transformation or cancer therapy, the inflammasomes are postulated to become activated in response to danger signals arising from the tumors or from therapy-induced damage to the tumor or healthy tissue. The activation of inflammasomes plays diverse and sometimes contrasting roles in cancer promotion and therapy depending on the specific con- text. Here we summarize the role of different inflamma- some complexes in cancer progression and therapy. Inflammasome components and pathways may provide novel targets to treat certain types of cancer; however, using such agents should be cautiously evaluated due to the complex roles that inflammasomes and pro- inflammatory cytokines play in immunity.

The abundance of ammonia-oxidizing bacteria and archaea and their amo A genes from the aerobic activated sludge tanks,recycled sludge and anaerobic digesters of a full-scale wastewater treatment plant(WWTP)was *** chain reaction and denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis were used to generate diversity profiles,which showed that each population had a consistent profile although the abundance of individual members *** the aerobic tanks,the ammonia-oxidizing bacterial(AOB)population was more than 350 times more abundant than the ammonia-oxidizing archaeal(AOA)population,however in the digesters,the AOA population was more than 10 times more *** the activity of the amo A gene expression of the two populations using RT-PCR also showed that the AOA amo A gene was more active in the digesters than in the activated sludge *** batch reactors and dd PCR,amo A activity could be measured and it was found that when the AOB amo A activity was inhibited in the anoxic reactors,the expression of the AOA amo A gene increased *** suggests that these two populations may have a cooperative relationship for the oxidation of ammonia.

Anthropogenic environmental stressors（like atmospheric deposition,land use change,and climate warming） are predicted to increase inorganic nitrogen and organic carbon loading to northern boreal lakes,with potential consequences for denitrification in ***,our ability to predict effects of these changes is currently limited as northern boreal lakes have been largely neglected in denitrification *** aim of this study was therefore to assess how maximum potential denitrification and N_2O production rates,and the relationship between the two（relative N_2O production）,is controlled by availability of nitrate（NO_3^-）,carbon（C）,phosphorus（P）,and *** were performed using the acetylene inhibition technique on sediments from a small,nutrient poor boreal lake in northern sweden in *** potential denitrification and N_2O production rates at 4°C were reached already at NO_3^-additions of 106–120 μg NO_3^-–N/L,and remained unchanged with higher NO_3 *** incubation temperatures increased maximum potential denitrification and N_2O production rates,and Q10 was somewhat higher for N_2O production（1.77） than for denitrification（1.69）.The relative N_2O production ranged between 13% and 64%,and was not related to NO_3^-concentration,but the ratio increased when incubations were amended with C and P（from a median of 16% to 27%）.Combined,our results suggests that unproductive northern boreal lakes currently have low potential for denitrification but are susceptible to small changes in NO_3 loading especially if these are accompanied by enhanced C and P availability,likely promoting higher N_2O production relative to N_2.

Background and Aims: Topoisomerase I (TOP1) partici-pates the repair of DNA double-strand breaks (DsBs) upon radiation therapy (RT). RNF144A mediates ubiquitination of catalytic subunit of DNA protein kinase (DNA-PKcs), a critical factor in DsB repair. This study aimed to investigate the natural killer (NK) cell-mediated radiosensitization with TOP1 inhibition and the mechanism by DNA-PKcs/RNF144A. Methods: In vitro synergism with TOP1i or cocultured NK cells and RT were evaluated in human hepatocellular car-cinoma (HCC) cell lines (Huh7/PLC5) by clonogenic surviv-als. Orthotopic xenografts were treated with Lipotecan and/or RT. Protein expression was analyzed by western blotting, immunoprecipitation, subcellular fractionation, and confocal microscopy. Results: Lipotecan/RT had a superior synergis-tic effect to RT on HCC cells. Combined RT/Lipotecan reduced the xenograft size by 7-fold than RT (psed more radiation-induced DNA damage and DNA-PKcs signaling. The expression of major histocompatibility com-plex class I-related chain A and B (MICA/B) on tumor cells is associated with the sensitivity to NK cell-mediated lysis. Cocultured NK and HCC cells with Lipotecan radiosensitized HCC cells/tissues with the expression of MICA/B. RNF144A increased more in Huh7 cells with combined RT/TOP1i, and reduced the prosurvival function of DNA-PKcs. The effect was reversed by inhibiting the ubiquitin/proteasome system. In comparison, RNF144A decreased through nuclear transloca-tion with the cumulated DNA-PKcs and radio-resistance of PLC5 cells. Conclusions: TOP1i reinforces NK cell-activated anti-HCC effect of RT through RNF144A mediated DNA-PKcs ubiquitination. RNF144A provides a reason for differentiating radiosensitization effect between HCC cells.

Prediction of bacteria-carrying particle （BCP） dispersion and particle distribution released from staffmem- bers in an operating room （OR） is very important for creating and sustaining a safe indoor environment. Postoperative wound infections cause significant morbidity and mortality, and contribute to increased hospitalization time. Increasing the number of personnel within the OR disrupts the ventilation airflow pattern and causes enhanced contamination risk in the area of an open wound. Whether the amount of staffwithin the OR influences the BCP distribution in the surgical zone has rarely been investigated. This study was conducted to explore the influence of the number of personnel in the OR on the airflow field and the BCP distribution. This was performed by applying a numerical calculation to map the airflow field and Lagrangian particle tracking （LPT） for the BCP phase. The results are reported both for active sampling and passive monitoring approaches. Not surprisingly, a growing trend in the BCP concentration （cfu/ms） was observed as the amount of staff in the OR increased. Passive sampling shows unpredictable results due to the sedimentation rate, especially for small particles （5-10 i^m）. Risk factors for surgical site infections （ssls） must be well understood to develop more effective prevention programs.

Background Fever of unknown origin(FUO)continues to challenge clinicians to determine an etiology and the need for *** study explored the most common etiologies,characteristics,and average cost of hospitalization for FUO in a pediatric population at an urban,tertiary care hospital in Washington,*** Records from patients admitted to Children's National Health system between september 2008 and April 2014 with an admission ICD-9 code for fever(780.6)were *** charts of patients 2-18 years of age with no underlying diagnosis and a temperature greater than 38.3℃for 7 days or more at time of hospitalization were *** diagnoses,features of admission,and total hospital charges were *** 110 patients qualified for this *** majority of patients(n=42,38.2%)were discharged without a *** was followed closely by infection,accounting for 37.2%(n=41)of *** disease was next(n=16,14.5%),followed by miscellaneous(n=6,5.4%)and oncologic diagnoses(n=5,4.5%).The average cost of hospitalization was 40,295 Us *** This study aligns with some of the most recent publications which report undiagnosed cases as the most common outcome in patients hospitalized with *** that,often no diagnosis is found may reassure patients,families,and *** cost associated with hospitalization for FUO may cause clinicians to reconsider inpatient admission for diagnostic work-up of fever,particularly given the evidence demonstrating that many patients are discharged without a diagnosis.
