Investigation of mitigating effect of colon-specific prodrugs of boswellic acid on 2,4,6-trinitrobenzene sulfonic acidinduced colitis in Wistar rats: Design, kinetics and biological evaluation

AIM To develop a colon-targeting bioreversible delivery system for β-boswellic acid(BBA) and explore utility of its prodrugs in 2,4,6-trinitrobenzene sulfonic acid(TNBs)-induced colitis in *** synthesis of 4 co-drugs of BBA with essential amino acids was achieved by CDI coupling, followed by their spectral characterization. In vitro kinetics were studied by HPLC in aqueous buffers, homogenates of gastrointestinal tract and fecal matter. In vivo kinetic studies were performed in Wistar rat plasma, urine and feces. The prodrugs were screened in TNBs-induced colitis modeled Wistar rats. statistical significance was assumed at P sease controls using one-way and two-way *** Prodrugs were stable in 0.05 mol/L HCl buffer(p H 1.2) and stomach homogenates. Negligible hydrolysis was observed in phosphate buffer and intestinal homogenates. substantial release(55%-72% and 68%-86%) of BBA was achieved in rat fecal matter and homogenates of colon. In vivo studies of BBA with L-tryptophan(BT) authenticated colon-specific release of BBA. But, surprisingly substantial concentration of BBA was seen to reach the systemic circulation due to probable absorption through colonic mucosa. sitespecifically enhanced bioavailability of BBA could be achieved in colon, which resulted in demonstration of significant mitigating effect on TNBs-induced colitis in rats without inducing any adverse effects on stomach, liver and pancreas. Prodrug of BT was found to be 1.7%(P superior than sulfasalazine in reducing the inflammation to colon among all prodrugs tested. CONCLUsION The outcome of this study strongly suggests that these prodrugs might have dual applicability to inflammatory bowel disease and chronotherapy of rheumatoid arthritis.

A Hybrid Immigrants scheme for Genetic Algorithms in Dynamic Environments

Dynamic optimization problems are a kind of optimization problems that involve changes over time. They pose a serious challenge to traditional optimization methods as well as conventional genetic algorithms since the goal is no longer to search for the optimal solution（s） of a fixed problem but to track the moving optimum over time. Dynamic optimization problems have attracted a growing interest from the genetic algorithm community in recent years. several approaches have been developed to enhance the performance of genetic algorithms in dynamic environments. One approach is to maintain the diversity of the population via random immigrants. This paper proposes a hybrid immigrants scheme that combines the concepts of elitism, dualism and random immigrants for genetic algorithms to address dynamic optimization problems. In this hybrid scheme, the best individual, i.e., the elite, from the previous generation and its dual individual are retrieved as the bases to create immigrants via traditional mutation scheme. These elitism-based and dualism-based immigrants together with some random immigrants are substituted into the current population, replacing the worst individuals in the population. These three kinds of immigrants aim to address environmental changes of slight, medium and significant degrees respectively and hence efficiently adapt genetic algorithms to dynamic environments that are subject to different severities of changes. Based on a series of systematically constructed dynamic test problems, experiments are carried out to investigate the performance of genetic algorithms with the hybrid immigrants scheme and traditional random immigrants scheme. Experimental results validate the efficiency of the proposed hybrid immigrants scheme for improving the performance of genetic algorithms in dynamic environments.

The availability of chemical and biological data presented in this paper is the basis for understanding not only the current state of anti-cancer drugs based on gold(Ⅲ),but also the rationale for strategies for future drug *** Au(Ⅲ)nanosized complexes of cefotaxime(ceph-3)and cefepime(ceph-4)ligands as a 3rd and 4th of cephalosporin generation drugs were ***(Ⅲ)complexes were discussed based on the elemental,molar conductance,thermal and magnetic moment measurements as well as spectral(FTIR,1HNMR,UV-Vis,and XRD)***-IR spectra revealed that the ceph-3 and ceph-4 ligands reacted as a bidentate ligands through carboxylate oxygen andβ-lactam oxygen *** analytical analysis confirm that the molar ratio is 1∶1(Au 3+/ceph)with general formula[Au(L)(Cl)2]where L=ceph-3 or *** structures of Au(Ⅲ)complexes were presence as a square planar geometry.X-ray diffraction patterns referred to a crystalline nature for all synthesized *** analyses confirmed that the synthetic gold(Ⅲ)complexes have a nanosized *** vitro antimicrobial activities of Au(Ⅲ)complexes were evaluated towards two types of bacteria(G+&G-).The antitumor activities of gold(Ⅲ)complexes are appraised against breast(MCF-7)and colorectal adenocarcinoma(Caco-2)cell lines,which means that the two complexes may consider promising anticancer drugs.

Ballistic parameter plays a major role in determining the re-entry *** ballistic coefficient offers an optimal re-entry,wherein the vehicle decelerates higher up in the atmosphere thereby decreasing the imposed aerothermal *** current computational study proposes an add-on,to the existing Orion-based re-entry vehicle:a duct circumventing the capsule from the shoulder to the base,to improve the aerocapture ability of the re-entry *** design cases are categorised based on a non-dimensional parameter termed the Annular Area Ratio(AAR).Dragand ballistic coefficient of the Ducted Re-entry Vehicles(DRVs)at various Mach numbers are evaluated and compared with those of the baseline *** results show that the proposed design increases the drag for all the AARs considered in the subsonic *** the supersonic regime,ducted models of higher AAR are more promising with the increase in Mach *** also exhibit lower ballistic coefficients than their baseline counterparts.

Edible Bird's Nest:Food or Medicine?

Edible bird＇s nest （EBN） is derived from the saliva of certain types of swiflets. It is consumed in many parts of the world for its nutritional and medicinal values. Although many claims have been made on the therapeutic and health- promoting effects of EBN, scientific documentations regarding these effects are very limited in published literature. It is not until recently that the biological effects of EBN are being investigated and evidence-based studies are being conducted. several studies have found that EBN may enhance cell proliferation and differentiation and various beneficial effects have been reported in vitro as well as in vivo. While these studies point towards the potential use of EBN in the treatment or even prevention of several diseases, the mechanisms of action of EBN remain largely unknown and more explorations are needed. This review is one of the very few scientific reviews onEBN which focuses on recent evidence-based discoveries.

An ecological model with the p-Laplacian and diffusion

We study the existence of positive solutions of a population model with diffusion of the form where Δ p denotes the p-Laplacian operator defined by Δ p z = div (∣∇z∣ p-2 ∇z), p > 1, Ω is a bounded domain of R N with smooth boundary, α ∈ (0, 1), a and c are positive constants. Here f : [0, ∞) → R is a continuous function. This model arises in the studies of population biology of one species with u representing the concentration of the species. We discuss the existence of positive solution when f satisfies certain additional conditions. We use the method of sub- and super-solutions to establish our results.

Expression of genes that control core fucosylation in hepatocellular carcinoma: systematic review

BACKGROUND Changes in N-linked glycosylation have been observed in the circulation of individuals with hepatocellular carcinoma. In particular, an elevation in the level of core fucosylation has been observed. However, the mechanisms through which core fucose is increased are not well understood. We hypothesized that a review of the literature and related bioinformatic review regarding six genes known to be involved in the attachment of core fucosylation, the synthesis of the fucosylation substrate guanosine diphosphate(GDP)-fucose, or the transport of the substrate into the Golgi might offer mechanistic insight into the regulation of core fucose *** To survey the literature to capture the involvement of genes regulating core Nlinked fucosylation in hepatocellular carcinoma METHODs The PubMed biomedical literature database was searched for the association of hepatocellular carcinoma and each of the core fucose-related genes and their protein products. We also queried The Cancer Genome Atlas Liver hepatocellular carcinoma(LIHC) dataset for genetic, epigenetic and gene expression changes for the set of six genes using the tools at *** A total of 27 citations involving one or more of the core fucosylation-related genes(FPGT, FUK, FUT8, GMDs, sLC35 C1, TsTA3) and hepatocellular carcinoma were identified. The same set of gene symbols was used to query the371 patients with liver cancer in the LIHC dataset to identify the frequency of m RNA over or under expression, as well as non-synonymous mutations, copy number variation and methylation level. Although all six genes trended to moresamples displaying over expression relative to under-expression, it was noted that a number of tumor samples had undergone amplification of the genes of the de novo synthesis pathway, GMDs(27 samples) and TsTA3(78 samples). Investigation of possible risk factors in the development of seasonal allergic conjunctivitis

AIM： To analyze the possible risk factors in the development of seasonal allergic conjunctivitis（sAC） through an evaluation of skin allergy tests and data obtained from ***： The study included a total of 75 sAC patients and 71 control subjects without sAC diagnosis who were admitted to the Abant Izzet Baysal University Medical Faculty Ophthalmology Clinic between March 2016 and December 2016. skin prick tests were performed for all participants. serum levels of total IgE and 25-OH vitamin D were also measured. In the tear, total IgE levels were measured. Moreover, possible risk factors for the onset of sAC（smoking, paracetamol exposure, vitamin D supplementation and environmental factors etc.） were examined for all patients by both prenatal and postnatal ***： The patients with sAC were found to have a history of maternal paracetamol exposure during the prenatal period. Likewise, in the same patient group, the duration of postnatal vitamin D supplementation was shorter（P〈0.001）. However, no significant correlation was found between sAC and maternal antibiotic exposure, maternal smoking, the mode of delivery and birth weight, as well as presence of pets. Moreover, patients with sAC were more likely to have asthma, allergic rhinitis and oral allergy syndrome. We have also found that sAC patients＇ mothers and siblings were more likely to have allergic conjunctivitis. Likewise, their fathers were more likely to have allergic rhinitis. CONCLUsION： Prenatal maternal paracetamol exposure and shorter duration of vitamin D supplementation in the postnatal period may play a role in development of sAC. Therefore prevention of unnecessary gestational paracetamol intake and vitamin D supplementation during infancy could potentially reduce the onset and development of sAC.

This paper presents the results of the application of a cold spray technique for structuring metallic surfaces with microparticles. The resulting changes in surface properties were characterized to observe their influences on the tribological behavior of the structured surface. The spray technique was applied to a technical component, a 16MnCr5 steel chain pin, designed to be mounted in a linear reciprocating tribometer. TiO2 microparticles were used to structure the surface with a homogeneous distribution of singly dispersed particles, rather than a homogeneous closed coating on the surface. Tribometer tests were performed to directly compare structured and unstructured chain pins, and a significantly reduced sliding friction coefficient was observed for the structured pin. The pins were characterized in detail by surface analysis prior to and after application of the tribological load to set the surface parameters and surface chemistry, even on the microscale. It was confirmed that the particle structuring induced changes in the surface properties, and the durability of the changes after tribological loading was evaluated.

Artificial Intelligence(AI)and Computer Vision(CV)advancements have led to many useful methodologies in recent years,particularly to help visually-challenged *** detection includes a variety of challenges,for example,handlingmultiple class images,images that get augmented when captured by a camera and so *** test images include all these variants as *** detection models alert them about their surroundings when they want to walk *** study compares four CNN-based pre-trainedmodels:ResidualNetwork(ResNet-50),Inception v3,DenseConvolutional Network(DenseNet-121),and squeezeNet,predominantly used in image recognition *** on the analysis performed on these test images,the study infers that Inception V3 outperformed other pre-trained models in terms of accuracy and *** further improve the performance of the Inception v3 model,the thermal exchange optimization(TEO)algorithm is applied to tune the hyperparameters(number of epochs,batch size,and learning rate)showing the novelty of the *** accuracy was achieved owing to the inclusion of an auxiliary classifier as a regularizer,hyperparameter optimizer,and factorization ***,Inception V3 can handle images of different *** makes Inception V3 the optimum model for assisting visually challenged people in real-world communication when integrated with Internet of Things(IoT)-based devices.
