We experimentally designed dispersion-managed repeaterless transmission systems with a pre-compensation and post-compensation technique using multi-channel-chirped fiber Bragg gratings. The repeaterless transmission link supports a single channel（1548.51 nm） with a 10 Gbps repeaterless transmission system over 300 km standard single-mode fiber（ssMF）. In the system design, two distributed Raman amplifiers（DRAs） were used to improve the signal level propagated along the 300 km ssMF. The co-propagating DRA provided 15 dB on–off gain and the counter-propagating produced 32 dB on–off gain at the signal wavelength. The experiment results show that the post-compensation configuration achieves an optimal performance with a bit error rate at 1 × 10-9.

This study investigates the optimization of physical parameters in a parabolic trough collector receiver unit to improve its thermal and optical *** parameters include the transmissivity,reflectivity,absorptivity,emissivity and thermal conductivity of the outer cover and absorber *** study utilizes a novel experimental design and a simulation model that accounts for the infrared reflectivity inside the *** simulation results were validated by the experimental data,with a maximum deviation of 8%.The study analyses the effects of varying the physical parameters on the heat transfer fluid temperature,total plant efficiency,temperature profiles,temperature gradients and thermal *** study finds that increasing the reflectivity and decreasing the emissivity of the outer cover and the absorber pipe significantly enhance the performance,with maximum increases of 25.8%and 26.5%in total efficiency,*** study also finds that increasing the thermal conductivity of the absorber pipe reduces the temperature gradients and thermal stress,with maximum decreases of 42.2%and 29%,*** study provides valuable insights for optimizing the receiver design and operation in solar-thermal systems.

Vertical mass isolation(VMI)is one of the novel methods for the seismic control of *** this method,the entire structure is assumed to consist of two mass and stiffness subsystems,and an isolated layer is located among *** this study,the magnetorheological damper in three modes:passive-off,passive-on,and semi-active mode with variable voltage between zero and 9 volts was used as an isolated layer between two ***-degrees-of-freedom structures with 5,10,and 15 floors in two dimensions were examined under 11 pairs of near field *** each level,the displacement of MR dampers was taken into *** responses of maximum displacement,maximum inter-story drift,and maximum base shear in controlled and uncontrolled buildings were compared to assess the suggested approach for seismic control of the *** to the results,the semi-active control method can reduce the response by more than 12%compared to the uncontrolled mode in terms of maximum displacement of the mass subsystem of the *** method can reduce more than 16%and 20%of the responses compared to the uncontrolled mode in terms of maximum inter-story drift and base shear of the structure,respectively.

This research proposes a novel nature-based design of a new concrete armour unit for the cover layer of a rubblemoundbreakwater. Armour units are versatile with respect to shape, orientation, surface condition details, and ***, a detailed analysis is required to investigate the exact state of their hydraulic interactions and structuralresponses. In this regard, the performance results of several traditional armour units, including the Antifer cube,Tetrapod, X-block and natural stone, are considered for the first step of this study. Then, the related observed resultsare compared with those obtained for a newly designed (artificial coral) armour unit. The research methodology utilizesthe common wave flume test procedure. Furthermore, several verified numerical models in OpenFOAM code areused to gain the extra required data. The proposed armour is configured to provide an effective shore protection as anenvironmental-friendly coastal structure. Thus it is designed with a main trunk including deep grooves to imitate thetypical geometry of a coral type configuration, so as to attain desirable performance. The observed results and ananalytic hierarchy process (AHP) concept are used to compare the hydraulic performance of the studied traditionaland newly proposed (artificial coral) armour units. The results indicate that the artificial coral armour unit demonstratesacceptable performance. The widely used traditional armour units might be replaced by newer designs for betterwave energy dissipation, and more importantly, for fewer adverse effects on the marine environment.

Liver cancer,encompassing both primary and secondary forms,presents a formidable global health *** to the GLOBOCAN 2020 database,liver cancer ranks as the sixth most common cancer globally in terms of incidence,yet it stands as the third leading cause of cancer-related mortality worldwide(1).By 2040,liver cancer cases and deaths are expected to rise by 55.0%and 56.4%,respectively(2).The geographical distribution of incidence and mortality rates for these cancers varies,with the highest occurrence noted in Eastern Asia,Northern Africa,and south-Eastern Asia(2).This variation arises from a complex interplay of factors,encompassing sociodemographic aspects like age and gender,environmental exposures to viruses such as hepatitis B virus(HBV)and hepatitis C virus(HCV),and cultural habits including alcohol consumption(3,4).

This study investigates the application of deep learning,ensemble learning,metaheuristic optimization,and image processing techniques for detecting lung and colon cancers,aiming to enhance treatment efficacy and improve survival *** introduce a metaheuristic-driven two-stage ensemble deep learning model for efficient lung/colon cancer *** diagnosis of lung and colon cancers is attempted using several unique indicators by different versions of deep Convolutional Neural Networks(CNNs)in feature extraction and model constructions,and utilizing the power of various Machine Learning(ML)algorithms for final ***,we consider different scenarios consisting of two-class colon cancer,three-class lung cancer,and fiveclass combined lung/colon cancer to conduct feature extraction using four *** extracted features are then integrated to create a comprehensive feature *** the next step,the optimization of the feature selection is conducted using a metaheuristic algorithm based on the Electric Eel Foraging Optimization(EEFO).This optimized feature subset is subsequently employed in various ML algorithms to determine the most effective ones through a rigorous evaluation *** top-performing algorithms are refined using the High-Performance Filter(HPF)and integrated into an ensemble learning framework employing weighted *** findings indicate that the proposed ensemble learning model significantly surpasses existing methods in classification accuracy across all datasets,achieving accuracies of 99.85%for the two-class,98.70%for the three-class,and 98.96%for the five-class datasets.

Five common single plastics and nine different household,commercial and industrial waste plastics were processed using a three-stage(i)pyrolysis,(ii)catalytic steam reforming and(iii)water gas shift reaction system to produce *** of plastics produces a range of different hydrocarbon species which are subsequently catalytically steam reformed to produce H_(2)and CO and then undergo water gas shift reaction to produce further H_(2).The process mimics the commercial process for hydrogen production from natural *** of the single polyalkene plastics(high-density polyethylene(HDPE),low-density polyethylene(LDPE),and polypropylene(PP))produced similar H_(2)yields between 115 mmol and 120 mmol per gram *** though Ps produced an aromatic product slate from the pyrolysis stage,further stages of reforming and water gas shift reaction produced a gas yield and composition similar to that of the polyalkene plastics(115 mmol H_(2)per gram plastic).PET gave significantly lower H_(2)yield(41 mmol per gram plastic)due to the formation of mainly CO,CO_(2)and organic acids from the pyrolysis stage which were not conducive to further reforming and water gas shift reaction.A mixture of the single plastics typical of that found in municipal solid waste produced a H_(2)yield of 102 mmol per gram *** the gas yields and composition from the single plastics enabled an estimation of the yields from a simulated waste plastic mixture and a‘real-world’waste plastic mixture to be *** different household,commercial and industrial waste plastic mixtures produced H_(2)yields between 70 mmol and 107 mmol per gram *** H_(2)yield and gas composition from the single waste plastics gave an indication of the type of plastics in the mixed waste plastic samples.

Pipelines produce vibrations during fluid or gas *** vibrations are less likely to cause structural failure as they exist with a small magnitude and can be harvested into useful *** paper presents a study on the piezoelectric energy-harvesting method converting mechanical energy from pipeline vibration into electrical *** performance of the serpentine-shaped piezoelectric cantilever beam was observed to check whether the design can produce the highest output voltage within the allowable vibration region of the pipeline from 10 to 300 Hz through finite element analysis using COMsOL Multiphysics software(supplementary Material).In addition,this study investigates the energy-harvesting potential of the proposed design under real pipeline vibration conditions through a lab vibration *** harvested energy output is evaluated based on various vibration frequencies and amplitudes,which gives an idea of the device and its performance under different operating *** experiment result shows that the energy harvester produced an open-circuit voltage of 10.28-15.45 V with 1 g of vibration *** results of this research will contribute to the development of efficient piezoelectric energy harvesters adapted for pipeline environments.
