Camelina sativa is a self-pollinating and facultative outcrossing oilseed *** engineering has been used to improve camelina yield potential for altered fatty acid composition,modified protein profiles,improved seed and oil yield,and enhanced drought *** deployment of transgenic camelina in the field posits high risks related to the introgression of transgenes into nontransgenic camelina and wild ***,effective bioconfinement strategies need to be developed to prevent pollen-mediated gene f low(PMGF)from transgenic *** the present study,we overexpressed the cleistogamy(i.e.f loral petal non-openness)-inducing PpJAZ1 gene from peach in transgenic *** camelina overexpressing PpJAZ1 showed three levels of cleistogamy,affected pollen germination rates after anthesis but not during anthesis,and caused a minor silicle abortion only on the main *** also conducted field trials to examine the effects of the overexpressed PpJAZ1 on PMGF in the field,and found that the overexpressed PpJAZ1 dramatically inhibited PMGF from transgenic camelina to non-transgenic camelina under the field ***,the engineered cleistogamy using the overexpressed PpJAZ1 is a highly effective bioconfinement strategy to limit PMGF from transgenic camelina,and could be used for bioconfinement in other dicot species.

Chemical stability, thermal behavior, and shelf life assessment of extruded modified double-base propellants

Double base propellant suffers from lack of chemical stability; this could result in self ignition during storing. Modified double base(MDB) propellant based on stoichiometric binary mixture of oxidizermetal fuel(Ammonium perchlorate/Aluminum), and energetic nitramines(HMX) offered enhanced thrust as well as combustion characteristics. This study is devoted to evaluate the impact of such energetic additives on thermal behavior, chemical stability, and shelf life. Extruded MDB formulations were manufactured by extrusion process. Artificial aging at 80℃ for 28 days was conducted. shelf life assessment was performed using Van't Hoff's equation. Quantification of evolved NOxgases with aging time was performed using quantitative stability tests. MDB formulation based on HMX demonstrated extended service life of 16 years compared with(AP/Al)-MDB which demonstrated 9 years. This finding was ascribed to the reactivity of AP with nitroglycerin with the formation of perchloric acid. Thermal behavior of aged MDB, exhibited an increase in heat released with time; this was ascribed to the autocatalytic thermal degradation during artificial aging. The increase in released heat by 31% was found to be equivalent to evolved NOx gases of 6.2 cm^3/5 g and 2.5 cm^3/1 g for Bergmann-Junk test, and Vacuum stability test respectively. This manuscript shaded the light on a novel approach to quantify evolved NOx gases to heat released with aging time. MDB based on HMX offered balanced ballistic performance,chemical stability, and service life.

Impact of lateral force-resisting system and design/construction practices on seismic performance and cost of tall buildings in Dubai, UAE

The local design and construction practices in the United Arab Emirates （UAE）, together with Dubai＇s unique rate of development, warrant special attention to the selection of Lateral Force-Resisting systems （LFRs）. This research proposes four different feasible solutions for the selection of the LFRs for tall buildings and quantifies the impact of these selections on seismic performance and cost. The systems considered are： steel special Moment-Resisting Frame （sMRF）, Concrete sMRF, steel Dual system （sMRF with special steel Plates shear Wall, sPsW）, and Concrete Dual system （sMRF with special Concrete shear Wall, sCsW）. The LFRs selection is driven by seismic setup as well as the adopted design and construction practices in Dubai. It is found that the concrete design alternatives are consistently less expensive than their steel counterparts. The steel dual system is expected to have the least damage based on its relatively lesser interstory drifts. However, this preferred performance comes at a higher initial construction cost. Conversely, the steel sMRF system is expected to have the most damage and associated repair cost due to its excessive flexibility. The two concrete alternatives are expected to have relatively moderate damage and repair costs in addition to their lesser initial construction cost.

Utility of short-term telemetry heart rhythm monitoring and CHA2Ds2-VAsc stratification in patients presenting with suspected cerebrovascular accident

BACKGROUND Inpatient telemetry heart rhythm monitoring overuse has been linked to higher healthcare *** To evaluate if CHA2Ds2-VAsc score could be used to indicate if a patient admitted with possible cerebrovascular accident(CVA)or transient ischemic attack(TIA)requires inpatient telemetry *** A total of 257 patients presenting with CVA or TIA and placed on telemetry monitoring were analyzed *** investigated the utility of telemetry monitoring to diagnose atrial fibrillation/flutter and the CHA2Ds2-VAsc scoring tool to stratify the risk of having CVA/TIA in these *** In our study population,63(24.5%)of the patients with CVA/TIA and telemetry monitoring were determined to have no ischemic neurologic *** the 194(75.5)patients that had a confirmed CVA/TIA,only 6(2.3%)had an arrhythmia detected during their inpatient telemetry monitoring *** with a confirmed CVA/TIA had a statistically significant higher CHA2Ds2-VAsc score compared to individuals without an ischemic event(3.59 vs 2.61,PsION Given the low percentage of inpatient arrhythmias identified,further research should focus on discretionary use of inpatient telemetry on higher risk patients to diagnose the arrhythmias commonly leading to CVA/TIA.A prospective study assessing event rate of CVA/TIA in patients with higher CHA2Ds2-VAsc score should be performed to validate the CHA2Ds2-VAsc score as a possible risk stratifying tool for patients at risk for CVA/TIA.

Internal fixator vs external fixator in the management of unstable pelvic ring injuries:A prospective comparative cohort study

BACKGROUND Reconstruction of the pelvic ring anatomy in unstable anterior pelvic ring injuries is a significant step to reduce the mortality rate associated with these injuries *** is a debate on using either an anterior subcutaneous pelvis internal fixator(INFIX)or an anterior supra-acetabular external fixator(EXFIX)to manage an unstable anterior pelvic ring *** To compare the functional and radiological outcomes and complications of INFIX vs EXFIX in managing unstable pelvic ring *** A prospective cohort study included 54 patients with unstable pelvic ring *** patients were divided into two groups;the INFIX group,in which 30 cases were fixed by INFIX,and the EXFIX group,in which 24 patients were treated by *** average age in the EXFIX group was 31.17 years(16-57 years),while in the INFIX group,it was 34.5 years(17-53 years).The study included 20(66.7%)males and 10(33.3%)females in the INFIX group and 10(41.7%)males and 14(58.3%)females in the EXFIX *** radiological outcomes were evaluated using Matta and Tornetta's score,and the functional outcomes using the Majeed *** The results revealed a statistically significant difference between both groups(P=0.013)regarding radiological outcomes,according to Matta and Tornetta's score in favor of the INFIX ***,standing,and walking abilities were measured at a 3-mo follow-up visit using Majeed score *** was significantly better among the INFIX group than the EXFIX group in all three *** the final follow-up,both groups had no statistically significant difference according to the Majeed score;92.35 in the INFIX group and 90.99 in the EXFIX group(P=0.513).A lower surgical site infection rate was noticed in the INFIX group(P=0.007).CONCLUsION Anterior subcutaneous pelvis INFIX is associated with better radiological outcomes and a lower infection rate than anterior supra-acetabular EXFIX in managing patients with unstable anterior pelvic

Fission Fragment Decay Heat by Using the Most Recent Evaluated Nuclear Data Library ENDF/B-VIII

In this paper, a home-made code was designed to calculate the decay heat emitted by fission fragments as a result of successive radioactive emissions after a fission burst. The nuclear data necessary for the calculations was extracted from the latest version of the Evaluated Nuclear Data Library ENDF/B-VIII.0. The code can calculate the decay heat of thermal and fast neutron-induced fission reactions on the isotopes of Thorium, Protactinium, Uranium, Neptunium, Plutonium, Americium, Curium, California, Einsteinium, and Fermium. A numerical method was used in this work to calculate the decay heat of all fission fragments due to the individual thermal or fast fissions of the isotopes of the previous ten actinides. The most influential nuclei in the decay heat were also identified at different times after the fission event. Moreover, the code showed high capability in calculating the fission fragments inventories and decay heats due to the decay of fission fragments of 31 fissionable nuclei.

Prediction of the Average Decay Heat per Fission for MOX Nuclear Fuel

MIXED Oxide Nuclear fuel (MOX) contains both uranium and plutonium in oxidized form. It is important to calculate the nuclear decay heat due to the single thermal fission (fission due to 0.0235 eV neutron) for all fissile nuclei in the MOX fuels (Usup>235sup>, Pusup>239sup>, and Pusup>241sup>). These fissile nuclei are the main source of the decay heat in MOX fuel. Decay heat calculation of the weighted fissile material content in MOX fuel is also important. A numerical method was used in this work to calculate the concentrations of all fission products due to the individual thermal fission of the three fissile materials as a function of time N(t). The decay heat calculations for the three fissile materials are directly calculated using the summation method by knowing the different concentrations of fission products over time. The average decay heat of the MOX fuel in induced thermal fission is also concluded. The most influential nuclei in the decay heat were also identified. The method used has been validated by several comparisons before, but the new in this work is using the most recent Evaluated Nuclear Data Library ENDF/B-VIII.0. Calculations of decay heat show very common trends for a period of 10sup>7sup> sec after the fission burst of thermal fissions of individual fissile nuclei. Moreover, the code showed high capability in calculating the fission fragments inventories and decay heats due to the decay of fission fragments of 31 fissionable nuclei.

Vaginal Trachelectomy for Retained Cervical stump after supracervical Hysterectomy: Technical Tips and Outcomes

Background and Objectives: The supracervical hysterectomy (sCH) has resulted in a group of patients with a retained cervix at risk of persistent symptoms, who may require a trachelectomy in the future. This study was to evaluate the efficacy of vaginal trachelectomy (VT) after a previous sCH. Methods: This was a prospective study that includes 13 cases with different ages and different complaints, sharing the same primary operation supracervical hysterectomy. They have different pathologies of the sCH specimen but they share the same completion surgery. The surgical outcome was analyzed. Results: Thirteen patients underwent vaginal trachelectomy for recurrent symptoms. The ages of patients were ranged from 37 years to 68 years (Mean ± sD, 56.4 ± 10.7). sCH was most commonly performed for abnormal uterine bleeding AUB (7/13, 53.8%), pelvic mass (5/1, 38.5%), and pelvic pain (1/13, 7.7%), the symptoms leading to vaginal trachelectomy were the same as those leading to supracervical hysterectomy. The median interval time from sCH to seeking medical help for the persistence or recurrence of symptoms and to VT was 2 weeks (1 to 96 weeks). Concomitant procedures were laparoscopic removal of both ovaries in 2 cases and pelvic lymphadenectomy in 1 case. The median length of operation was 45 minutes. In all cases, symptoms leading to trachelectomy resolved completely after surgery, and patients reported a significant improvement. Conclusions: The cervix, left behind at subtotal hysterectomy, requires removal, the vaginal route is probably the safest, and least traumatic. Vaginal radical trachelectomy appears to be feasible and safe for the treatment of endometrial malignancy discovered after supracervical hysterectomy.

Accurate Formulae for the Cross-section Data for the Radio-Halogen I-123 from Cyclotron Production

123I is the most widely used cyclotron-produced radio-halogen in medical research. In this paper, excitation function formulae for the nuclear reactions of 123I production are introduced. 124Te (p, 2n)123I and 127I (p, 5n)123Xe → 123I nuclear reactions have been studied as a function of the energy of the neutrons. Both two formulae were created using the least squares regression of the experimental cross sections data, which were obtained from the Experimental Nuclear Reaction Data EXFOR Database version of 2023. The proposed formulae were evaluated using two statistical indicators for goodness-of-fit. High agreement was observed between the empirical and experimental results for both nuclear processes.
