The indus River flows through Ladakh, one of the driest and coldest places on earth, in a tectonically active domain. Fluvial, glaciofluvial, lacustrine and debris dominated sequences represent the Late Quaternary sedimentary record along the river course. Karakoram Fault, a major crustal scaled feature reported to be active during the Quaternary, is associated with the indus River drainage. Linkages between a major, active fault and deposits formed during the activity period of the fault are explored using heavy mineral deduced provenance and Optically stimulated Luminescence(OsL) *** deposits in a ~200 km long stretch of the indus River have been examined for a ~80 ka period to decipher the climate linked aggradation history. Damming of the indus River at ~79 ka and existence of the spituk Lake for >30 ka is demonstrated. Using geology of the provenance in relation to the mineralogical attributes of the Quaternary deposits, the major drainage reorganization when the connection of the Tangtse Valley to the indus was blocked, is inferred at ~73 ka. it is supported by the geologicalgeomorphological evidence. The study demonstrates the application of provenance linked mineralogy in terrestrial aggradation in a tectonically active region.

in a hard chromium electroplating process, a heat exchanger is employed to remove the heat produced from the high current intensity in an electroplating ***, a conventional U shape heat exchanger is installed in the bath, but it provides low heat ***, this study designs a novel W serpentine shape heat exchanger with identical heat transfer area to the conventional one for increasing heat removal *** performance of the heat exchange is tested with various flow velocities in a cross-section in range of 1.6 to 2.4 m·s^(-1).Mathematical models of this process have been formulated in order to simulate and evaluate the heat exchanger *** results show that the developed models give a good prediction of the plating solution and cooling water temperature, and the novel heat exchanger provides better results at any flow *** addition, the W serpentine shape heat exchanger has been implemented in a real hard chromium electroplating *** data collected have shown that the new design gives higher heat removal performance compared with the U shape heat exchanger with identical heat transfer area; it removes more heat out of the process than the conventional one of about 23%.

Wind and solar energy are two popular forms of renewable energy used in microgrids and facilitating the transition towards net-zero carbon emissions by ***,they are exceedingly unpredictable since they rely highly on weather and atmospheric *** microgrids,smart energy management systems,such as integrated demand response programs,are permanently established on a step-ahead basis,which means that accu-rate forecasting of wind speed and solar irradiance intervals is becoming increasingly crucial to the optimal operation and planning of *** this in mind,a novel“bidirectional long short-term memory network”(Bi-LsTM)-based,deep stacked,sequence-to-sequence autoencoder(s2sAE)forecasting model for predicting short-term solar irradiation and wind speed was developed and evaluated in *** create a deep stacked s2sAE prediction model,a deep Bi-LsTM-based encoder and decoder are stacked on top of one another to reduce the dimension of the input sequence,extract its features,and then reconstruct it to produce the *** of the proposed deep stacked s2sAE forecasting model were optimized using the Bayesian optimization ***,the forecasting performance of the proposed Bi-LsTM-based deep stacked s2sAE model was compared to three other deep,and shallow stacked s2sAEs,i.e.,the LsTM-based deep stacked s2sAE model,gated recurrent unit-based deep stacked s2sAE model,and Bi-LsTM-based shallow stacked s2sAE *** these models were also optimized and modeled in *** results simulated based on actual data confirmed that the proposed model outperformed the alternatives by achieving an accuracy of up to 99.7%,which evidenced the high reliability of the proposed forecasting.

To detect the improper sitting posture of a person sitting on a chair,a posture detection system using machine learning classification has been proposed in this *** addressed problem correlates to the third sustainable Development Goal(sDG),ensuring healthy lives and promoting well-being for all ages,as specified by the World Health Organization(WHO).An improper sitting position can be fatal if one sits for a long time in the wrong position,and it can be dangerous for ulcers and lower spine *** novel study includes a practical implementation of a cushion consisting of a grid of 3×3 force-sensitive resistors(FsR)embedded to read the pressure of the person sitting on ***,the Body Mass index(BMi)has been included to increase the resilience of the system across individual physical variances and to identify the incorrect postures(backward,front,left,and right-leaning)based on the five machine learning algorithms:ensemble boosted trees,ensemble bagged trees,ensemble subspace K-Nearest Neighbors(KNN),ensemble subspace discriminant,and ensemble RUsBoosted *** proposed arrangement is novel as existing works have only provided simulations without practical implementation,whereas we have implemented the proposed design in *** results validate the proposed sensor placements,and the machine learning(ML)model reaches a maximum accuracy of 99.99%,which considerably outperforms the existing *** proposed concept is valuable as it makes it easier for people in workplaces or even at individual household levels to work for long periods without suffering from severe harmful effects from poor posture.

Corrosion resistance and thermal stability of sputtered Fe44Al34Ti7N15 and Al61Ti11N28 thin films for prospective application in oil and gas industry

Fe-and Al-based thin-film metallic glass coatings(Fe44Al34Ti7N15and Al61Ti11N28) were fabricated using magnetron co-sputtering technique, and their corrosion performances compared against wrought 316 L stainless steel. The results of Gi-XRD and XPs analyses demonstrated amorphous structure and oxide layer formation on the surface of the fabricated thin films, respectively. The potentiodynamic(PD) polarization test in chloridethiosulfate(NH4Cl + Na2s2O3) solution revealed lower corrosion current(icorr)(0.42 ± 0.02 μA/cm~2 and0.086 ± 0.001 μA/cm~2 Vs. 0.76 ± 0.05 μA/cm~2), lower passivation current(ipass)(1.45 ± 0.03 μA/cm~2 and1.83 ± 0.07 μA/cm~2 Vs. 1.98 ± 0.04 μA/cm~2), and approximately six-fold higher breakdown potential(Ebd) for Fe-and Al-based coatings than those of wrought 316 L stainless steel. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy(Eis) of both films showed 4-and 2-fold higher charge transfer resistance(Rct), 7-and 2.5-times higher film resistance(Rf), lower film capacitance values(Qf)(10 ± 2.4 μs-sacm-2, and 5.41 ± 0.8 μs-sacm-2Vs. 18 ± 2.21 μssacm-2), and lower double-layer capacitance values(Qdl)(31.33 ± 4.74 μs-sacm-2, and 15.3 ± 0.48 μs-sacm-2Vs.43 ± 4.23 μs-sacm-2), indicating higher corrosion resistance of the thin films. Cyclic Voltammetry(CV) scan exhibited that the passive films formed on the Fe-and Al-based coatings were more stable and less prone to pitting corrosion than the wrought 316 L stainless steel. The surface morphology of both films via sEM endorsed the CV scan results, showing better resistance to pitting corrosion. Furthermore, the thermal analysis via TGA and DsC revealed the excellent thermal stability of the thin films over a wide temperature range typically observed in oilgas industries.

Climate change may affect water resources by altering various processes in natural ecosystems. Dynamic and statistical downscaling methods are commonly used to assess the impacts of climate change on water resources. Objectively, both methods have their own advantages and disadvantages. in the present study, we assessed the impacts of climate change on water resources during the future periods (2020–2029 and 2040–2049) in the upper reaches of the Kaidu River Basin, Xinjiang, China, and discussed the uncertainties in the research processes by integrating dynamic and statistical downscaling methods (regional climate models (RCMs) and general circulation modes (GCMs)) and utilizing these outputs. The reference period for this study is 1990–1999. The climate change trend is represented by three bias-corrected RCMs (i.e., Hadley Centre Global Environmental Model version 3 regional climate model (HadGEM3-RA), Regional Climate Model version 4 (RegCM4), and seoul National University Meso-scale Model version 5 (sUN-MM5)) and an ensemble of GCMs on the basis of delta change method under two future scenarios (RCP4.5 and RCP8.5). We applied the hydrological sWAT (soil and Water Assessment Tool) model which uses the RCMs/GCMs outputs as input to analyze the impacts of climate change on the stream flow and peak flow of the upper reaches of the Kaidu River Basin. The simulation of climate factors under future scenarios indicates that both temperature and precipitation in the study area will increase in the future compared with the reference period, with the largest increase of annual mean temperature and largest percentage increase of mean annual precipitation being of 2.4°C and 38.4%, respectively. Based on the results from bias correction of climate model outputs, we conclude that the accuracy of RCM (regional climate model) simulation is much better for temperature than for precipitation. Background: This study investigated changes in rumen protozoal and methanogenic communities, along with the correlations among microbial taxa and methane(CH_4) production of six Belmont Red Composite beef steers fed tea seed saponins(Tss). Animals were fed in three consecutive feeding periods, a high-grain basal diet for 14 d(BD period) then a period of progressive addition of Tss to the basal diet up to 30 g/d for 20 d(Tss period), followed by the basal diet for 13 d without Tss(BDP post-control period).Results: The study found that Tss supplementation decreased the amount of the protozoal genus Entodinium and increased Polyplastron and Eudiplodinium genera. During BDP period, the protozoa community of steers did not return to the protozoal profiles observed in BD period, with higher proportions of Metadinium and Eudiplodinium and lower isotricha. The addition of Tss was found to change the structure of methanogen community at the subgenus level by decreasing the abundance of methanogens in the sGMT clade and increasing the abundance of methanogens in the RO clade. The correlation analysis indicated that the abundance of sGMT clade methanogens were positively correlated with isotricha, and isotricha genus and sGMT clade methanogens were positively correlated with CH_4 production. While RO clade were positively correlated with the proportion of Metadinium genus, which was negatively correlated with CH_4 ***: These results suggest that different genera of rumen protozoa ciliates appear to be selectively inhibited by Tss, and the change in methanogen community at the subgenus level may be due to the mutualistic relationships between methanogens and rumen ciliates.

Fatigue properties play a crucial role as they are vital to ensuring the durability and integrity of components subjected to repeated loading conditions over long *** main objective of this work is to investigate the fatigue behavior of dual phase low-carbon steels used in automotive applications using a rotating bending fatigue *** treatments were carried out to analyze the microstructure's effect on the fatigue properties,including quenching low-carbon steel samples at 800℃ and 900℃.Hardness and tensile tests were performed,and the microstructure was inspected to examine the constitute *** the assistance of a scanning electron microscope,fractographic analyses were carried out to reveal the fracture features of the samples at different lifetime *** results show that various failure mechanisms occur depending on the stress ***,the specimens quenched at 900℃ exhibited higher fatigue strength.

The digital world of work and social media, despite its challenges, is here to stay as an integrated part of our day-to-day operational norms. Therefore, we must make the best of it on a proactive basis before the private data of our employees and consumers becomes hacked remotely by criminals. Privacy violations and hacking of data cannot be sustained since they can be very costly and may even lead to bankruptcy. As such, today’s leaders, managers, and educators have the responsibility of preparing their future replacements for the modern digital economy, so their organizations’ operational processes can remain competitive, safe, and sustainable. Operational sustainability, in this paper, is proposed as a tripod or “three-legged stool” of environmental, social, and digital responsibility. With more employees and entrepreneurs accessing digital data remotely through vulnerable or unsecure online platforms, the opportunities for cybercrimes rise. Therefore, this article focuses more on the often-neglected digitalization element of operational sustainability. All leaders must be aware of the legal, social, and environmental expectations of a digital society by doing what is good for the world while also being efficient and safe from cybercriminals. The paper proposes that future leaders must be socialized with a sustainability mindset about data privacy and safety measures that are necessary for this fast-changing digital economy where hackers and artificial intelligence (Ai) tools can make the process more challenging. With Ai being used by some actors to generate false yet realistic content, companies will have to do more to make sure their brands are not defamed or tarnished. As such, this conceptual article discusses a model for operational sustainability, which includes the privacy and safety of data that can be used by managers, educators and other leaders for training and development purposes in today’s digital world of work.
