Unequal Dis.ribution of Innovation Efforts.for Neglected Tropical Dis.as.s. The Role of Funding Evaluation Criteria

Background: International res.arch and innovation efforts.for neglected tropical dis.as.s.have increas.d in recent decades.due to dis.arities.in overall health res.arch funding in relation to global burden of dis.as.. However, within the field of neglected tropical dis.as.s.s.m. s.em.far m.re neglected than others. In this.res.arch the aim.is.to inves.igate the dis.ribution of res.urces.and efforts. as.well as.the m.chanis.s.that underpin funding allocation for neglected tropical dis.as.s. m.thodology: A s.s.em.tic literature review was.conducted to es.ablis. a com.rehens.ve overview of known indicators.for innovation efforts.related to a wide range of neglected tropical dis.as.s. Articles.were s.lected bas.d on a s.bjective evaluation of their relevance, the pres.nce of original data, and the breadth of their s.ope. This.was.followed by thirteen in-depth open-ended interviews.with repres.ntatives.of private, public and philanthropic funding organizations. concerning evaluation criteria for funding res.arch propos.ls. Res.lts. The findings.reveal a large difference in the extent to which the individual dis.as.s.are neglected with notable differences.between abs.lute and relative efforts. Criteria us.d in the evaluation of res.arch propos.ls.relate to potential im.act, the probability of s.cces. and s.rategic fit. Private organizations.prioritize s.rategic fit and econom.c im.act;philanthropic organizations.prioritize s.ort-term.s.cietal im.act;and public generally prioritize the probability of s.cces. by accounting for follow-up funding and involvem.nt of indus.ry. Funding decis.ons.of different types.of organizations.are highly interrelated. Conclus.ons. This.s.udy s.ows.that the evaluation of funding propos.ls.introduces.and retains.unequal funding dis.ribution, reinforcing the relative neglect of dis.as.s. s.cietal im.act is.the prim.ry rationale for funding but application of it as.a funding criterion is.as.ociated with s.gnificant challenges. Background: The treatm.nt of brain m.tas.as.s.with radiotherapy has.s.ifted to the us. of s.ereotactic Radio-s.rgery (s.s.. The technical is.ue of expanding the treatm.nt volum. around the Gros. Tum.r Volum. (GTV) is.a current debate. Radiotherapy centers.us. variable GTV-PTV m.rgins. ranging from.one to 2 m.. m.terial and m.thods. We perform.d a dos.m.tric com.aris.n in plans.of twenty patients.us.ng three m.rgins. PTV zero, PTV1, and PTV2. We als. developed im.ginary Peel volum.s. Thes. volum.s.are des.ribed as.follows. Peel1 = PTV1 − GTV, Peel2 = PTV2 − GTV. Res.lts. Our res.lts.s.owed that the m.an PTV volum. differed s.gnificantly acros. the different m.rgins.(p = 0.000). The V12 of the brain s.gnificantly varied as.a function of PTV m.rgin (p = 0.000). The target coverage and plan quality indices.were not s.gnificantly different. The Peel volum. dos.m.tric analys.s.s.owed that the m.an dos. was.s.gnificantly higher in the nearby norm.l brain tis.ue: Peel1 (p = 0.022) and Peel 2 (p = 0.013). Conclus.on: According to our dos.m.tric analys.s. expanding the GTV into a PTV by 1 m. m.rgin is.m.re convenient than 2 m..

Introduction: Banglades. has.experienced rem.rkable growth in Rm. over the pas. 25 years. With the knitwear indus.ry providing m.re than 4 m.llion direct jobs. providing better occupational health and s.fety of workers.rem.ins.a challenge. Aim.of the s.udy: The aim.of the s.udy was.to analyze the dis.as. burden of a Rm. factory, and to highlight occupational health ris.s. m.thods. A cros.-s.ctional s.udy des.gn was.em.loyed for this.analys.s. A 17-m.nth data entry (January 2020 - m.y 2021) was.gathered from.the factory in-hous. clinic. The s.cio-dem.graphic and clinical diagnos.s.entries.of 8421 entries.were analyzed. Res.lt: The population of the factory workers.is.5370, where 40% (2148) are fem.le workers.and 60% (3222) are m.le workers. The m.an age of res.ondents.is.30 years. with a s. of ±7 years. Am.ng the chief com.laints. the m.s. com.on was.vom.ting (14%;2262) fever (14%;2247), runny nos. (11%;1842), cough (9%;1465), and loos. m.tion (8%;1364). In the diagnos.s.categories. gas.rointes.inal dis.as.s.were m.re predom.nantly diagnos.d (35%;2978), followed by viral fever (21%;1772), neurological dis.as.s.(16.5%;1389) and m.s.ulos.eletal dis.rders.(9%;768). The average cos. of m.dicine for each res.ondent is.BDT 36. The factory covered cos.s.of all m.dication for 99% (8380) of res.ondents. Only 0.5% (37) was.referred to a tertiary hos.ital for further evaluation. Conclus.on: Garm.nts.workers.s.ffer m.s.ly from.long-term.occupational health hazards. Factory owners.and policy m.kers.can contribute in various.ways.to im.roving prim.ry healthcare options.for workers.
