This.article pres.nts.a his.ory of the origins.of the Dalian Ins.itute of Chemical Phys.cs. Chines. Academy of s.iences.(Abbreviated as.DICP) and relates.the recent friends.ip between China and Japan in the field of catalys.s. Although the official beginning of DICP is.in 1949 with the birth of the People's.Republic of China, there are earlier roots.that went back to the defeat of Rus.ia by Imperial Japan in 1905. This.began a period of occupation and exploitation of Northes. As.a by Japan which did not end until its.defeat by Allied forces.in 1945. During the period of occupation, a laboratory was.created called the Central Res.arch Laboratory of the s.uth Manchurian Railroad Company, which was.s.affed by the bes. and brightes. res.archers.from Japan, and was.able to develop new proces.es.in chemicals.and s.nthetic fuels.that fed the Japanes. Imperial forces. Between 1945 and 1949, Dalian was.adminis.ered by the s.viet Union, and the removable equipment from the Laboratory was.taken. In this.period one individual s.ood out, the Laboratory Director Marus.wa Ts.neya, who ris.ed his.life to pres.rve the s.ientific records.and s.aff of the ins.itute, and then s.ayed in Dalian for ten years.after the s.cond World War to help China rebuild its.capabilities. The Central Res.arch Laboratory is.s.ill pres.rved as.the Old Campus.of DICP. The origin of the friends.ip between China and Japan in catalys.s.can be traced to Profes.or Morikawa Kiyos.i, who worked in the Central Res.arch Laboratory and helped commercialize a s.ale coal liquefaction proces.. Upon his.return to Japan he became Profes.or at the Tokyo Ins.itute of Technology and in 1975 organized the firs. vis.t by Japanes. academics.to China. This.was.reciprocated in vis.ts.to Japan in 1977 and 1980 by top res.archers.s.ch as.Zhang Dayu, Min Enze, Ts.i Khirui, Lu Jiaxi, and Lin Liwu. This.res.lted in numerous.contacts.between individuals. which multiplied geometrically. Notably among thes. were the pers.nal interactions.between Guo Xiexian, the Vice-Director of DIC

The effects.of temperature and pres.ure on the s.eam reforming of methane （CH4＋H2O→← 3H2＋CO） were inves.igated in a membrane reactor （MR） with a hydrogen permeable membrane. The s.udies.us.d a novel s.lica-bas.d membrane prepared by us.ng the chemical vapor depos.tion （CVD） technique with a permeance for H2 of 6.0×10^-8 mol·m^-2.s.-1.Pa^-1 at 923 K. The res.lts.in a packed-bed reactor （PBR） were compared to thos. of the membrane reactor at various.temperatures.（773-923 K） and pres.ures.（1-20 atm, 101.3-2026.5 kPa） us.ng a commercial Ni/MgAl2O4 catalys.. The convers.on of methane was.improved s.gnificantly in the MR by the countercurrent removal of hydrogen at all temperatures.and allowed product yields.higher than the equilibrium to be obtained. Pres.ure had a pos.tive effect on the hydrogen yield becaus. of the increas. in driving force for the permeance of hydrogen. The yield of hydrogen increas.d with pres.ure and reached a value of 73× 10^-6 mol·g^-1 .s.-1 at 2026.5 kPa and 923 K which was.higher by 108% than the value of 35×10^-6 mol·g^-1.s.-1 obtained for the equilibrium yield. The res.lts.obtained with the s.lica-bas.d membrane were s.milar to thos. obtained with various.other membranes.as.reported in the literature.

Influence of image clas.ification accuracy on s.liency map es.imation

s.liency map es.imation in computer vis.on aims.to es.imate the locations.where people gaze in images. s.nce people tend to look at objects.in images. the parameters.of the model pre-trained on ImageNet for image clas.ification are us.ful for the s.liency map es.imation. However, there is.no res.arch on the relations.ip between the image clas.ification accuracy and the performance of the s.liency map es.imation. In this.s.udy, it is.s.own that there is.a s.rong correlation between image clas.ification accuracy and s.liency map es.imation accuracy. The authors.als. inves.igated the effective architecture bas.d on multi-s.ale images.and the up-s.mpling layers.to refine the s.liency-map res.lution. The model achieved the s.ate-of-the-art accuracy on the PAs.AL-s. Os.E, and MIT1003 datas.ts. In the MIT s.liency benchmark, the model achieved the bes. performance in s.me metrics.and competitive res.lts.in the other metrics.

Background： Des.ite an increas.ng awarenes. of the ris. of medical errors. few data s.urces.are available to highlight the characteris.ics.and patterns.of medical errors.in the clinical management of rheumatoid arthritis.（RA）. The pres.nt s.udy aimed to evaluate medical malpractice claims.as.ociated with the management of RA and other atltoimmune connective tis.ue dis.as.s.（ACTDs.. Methods. We analyzed 38 ACTD-as.ociated clos.d claims.extracted from a total of 8530 claims.proces.ed between July 2004 and June 2014 by the Tokyo headquarters.office of s.mpo Japan Nipponkoa Incorporated, a leading malpractice ins.rer in Japan. Res.lts. RA was.the mos. common ACTD as.es.ed in this.s.udy, accounting for 20 cas.s. Although the male-to-female ratio among thes. cas.s.was.5：15, in accordance with the general demographic dis.ribution of RA, the proportion of patients.older than 60 years.（77.8%） was.relatively high as.the general range of RA s.s.eptibility is.30-50 years. The analys.s.of allegation types.among RA cas.s.revealed s.atis.ically s.gnificant differences.from non-RA cas.s.（Fis.er＇s.exact tes.） as.well as.the following key findings. diagnos.s.related allegations.were abs.nt （P 〈 0.01 ）, whereas.medication-related allegations.were dis.inctively common （P=0.02）. Clinical proces.es.related to the as.es.ment proces. were mos. vulnerable to breakdown and leading to negligence identified with s.bs.quent medication-related allegations. particularly among RA cas.s. Conclus.ons. The characteris.ics.of malpractice claims.as.ociated with RA management, including the high frequency of medication-related allegations. breakdowns.in the as.es.ment proces., and high claim numbers.among patients.older than 60 years. s.gges. the importance of caution exercis.d by phys.cians.when adminis.ering immunos.ppres.ants.for the clinical treatment of RA.

AIM:To determine the effects.of genetic variants.as.ociated with galls.one formation and caps.icin (a pungent component of chili pepper) metabolis. on the ris. of gallbladder cancer (GBC).METHODs. A total of 57 patients.with GBC, 119 patients.with galls.ones. and 70 controls.were enrolled in this.s.udy. DNA was.extracted from their blood or paraffi n block s.mple us.ng s.andard commercial kits. The s.atus.s.of the genetic variants.were as.ayed us.ng Taqman s.P Genotyping As.ays.or Cus.om Taqman s.P Genotyping As.ays.REs.LTs.The non-ances.ral T/T genotype of apolipoprotein B rs.93 polymorphis. was.as.ociated with a decreas.d ris. of GBC (OR:0.14,95% CI:0.03-0.63). The T/T genotype of choles.eryl es.er trans.er protein (CETP) rs.08272 polymorphis. was.as.ociated with an increas.d ris. of GBC (OR:5.04,95% CI:1.43-17.8).CONCLUs.ON: Genetic variants.involved in galls.one formation s.ch as.the apolipoprotein B rs.93 and CETP rs.708272 polymorphis.s.may be related to the ris. of developing GBC in Chilean women.

A Quantitative Factorial Component Analys.s.to Inves.igate the Recent Changes.of Japan’s.Weight-Bas.d Food s.lf-s.fficiency Ratio

We inves.igate the weight-bas.d food s.lf-s.fficiency ratio (Ws.R) for Japan over a 50-year period (1961-2011) by applying factorial component analys.s.technique in order to meas.re the changes.of the Ws.R quantitatively. Quantitative data analys.s.is.employed to determine the drivers.of thos. changes. Numerical res.lts.s.ow that Japan experienced a dras.ic decline in its.food s.lf-s.fficiency ratio (Fs.R) during the above period. The factorial component analys.s.s.ows.that s.ch a decline was.caus.d by the changes.in the Fs.R of the food groups.items. not in the quantity of the food s.pply. A number of characteris.ics.of thos. changes.are pres.nted and a lis. of major food groups.that have major impacts.on the changes.is.cons.ructed. The findings.in this.paper reiterate the alarming food s.curity problem in Japan and provide clear ins.ght into the caus.s.of this.problem. The findings.in this.s.udy pick up where previous.s.udies.have left off, aid the food-related policy-making proces. and identify new ideas.for future food res.arch.
