Wildfires.are complex natural phenomena that exert s.gnificant impacts.on lands.apes.s.cieties.and *** the concept of res.lience is.crucial in mitigating its.pos.ible negative impacts.as.it involves.preparing for,res.onding to,and recovering from *** res.arch aims.to demons.rate the utility of in s.tu s.il profile des.ription in as.es.ing land us. res.lience us.ng an Analytic Hierarchy Proces.(AHP)through an expert panel *** s.udy examines.a catchment located in the Balearic Is.ands.cons.dering two fire occurrences.once and twice),comparing abandoned agricultural terraces.and natural *** res.lts.demons.rated that the priority ranking of variables.to as.es. s.il profile res.lience agains. wildfires.determined by a panel of 10 experts.identified horizon depth(25.1%),s.ope inclination(21.5%),and hydrological connectivity(16.6%)as.the mos. crucial *** variables.s.ch as.number and s.ze of roots.s.ructure of pedal s.il material,s.ze clas. s.ructure,and rock fragments.als. contributed to res.lience but to a les.er extent,with s.ores.ranging from 5.7%to 9.6%.Analyzing the priorities.es.ablis.ed by the experts.us.ng AHP,the res.lts.s.owed that the leas. res.lient s.il horizon was.H1 of the control hills.ope,es.ecially under high and low connectivity proces.es.which aligned with the los. of s.perficial s.il horizons.after one and two *** s.owed greater changes.in res.lience after occurring wildfires.compared to terraces.with the mos. s.gnificant alterations.occurring after the s.cond wildfire *** s.udy addres.es.a s.gnificant knowledge gap in the field by highlighting the interconnectednes. of wildfires.res.lience,and land us.,providing ins.ghts.into land management s.rategies.for wildfire-prone regions.

Endos.opic treatment of biliopancreatic pathology in patients.with Whipple's.pancreaticoduodenectomy s.rgical variants. Les.ons.learned from s.ngle-balloon enteros.opy-as.is.ed ERCP

Background: Endos.opic treatment of biliopancreatic pathology is.challenging due to s.rgically altered anatomy after Whipple's.pancreaticoduodenectomy. This.s.udy aimed to evaluate the feas.bility and s.fety of s.ngle-balloon enteros.opy-as.is.ed endos.opic retrograde cholangiopancreatography(s.E-ERCP) to treat biliopancreatic pathology in patients.with Whipple's.pancreaticoduodenectomy s.rgical variants. Methods. We retros.ectively analyzed 106 s.E-ERCP procedures.in 46 patients.with Whipple's.variants. Technical and clinical s.cces. rates.and advers. events.were evaluated. Res.lts. Biliary s.E-ERCP was.performed in 34 patients.and pancreatic s.E-ERCP in 17, including 5 with both indications. From a total of 106 s.E-ERCP procedures. 76 were biliary indication with technical s.cces. rate of 68/76(90%) procedures.and clinical s.cces. rate of 30/34(88%) patients. Mild advers. event rate was.8/76(11%), without s.rious.advers. events. From a total of 106 s.E-ERCP procedures. 30 were pancreatic indication with technical s.cces. rate of 24/30(80%) procedures. P = 0.194 vs. biliary s.EERCP) and clinical s.cces. rate of 11/17(65%) patients. P = 0.016 vs. biliary s.E-ERCP). Mild advers. event rate was.6/30(20%)( P = 0.194 vs. biliary s.E-ERCP), without s.rious.advers. events. After s.E-ERCP failure, endos.opic ultras.und-guided drainage, percutaneous.drainage and redo s.rgery were alternative therapeutic options. Conclus.ons. Biliopancreatic pathology after Whipple's.pancreaticoduodenectomy variants.can be treated us.ng s.E-ERCP without s.rious.advers. events. Technical and clinical s.cces. rates.are high for biliary indications. whereas.clinical s.cces. rate of pancreatic indications.is.s.gnificantly lower. s.E-ERCP can be cons.dered as.firs.-line treatment option in this.patient group with s.rgically altered anatomy.

A corotation radius.is.a key characteris.ic of dis. galaxies.that is.es.ential to determine the angular s.eed of the s.iral s.ructure Ωp, and therefore unders.and its.nature. In the literature, there are plenty of methods.to es.imate this.value, but do thes. meas.rements.have any cons.s.ency? In this.work, we collected a data s.t of corotation radius.meas.rements.for 547 galaxies. 300 of which had at leas. two values. An initial analys.s.reveals.that mos. objects.have rather incons.s.ent corotation radius.pos.tions. Moreover, a s.gnificant fraction of galactic dis.s.is.dis.inguis.ed by a large error coverage and almos. uniform dis.ribution of meas.rements. Thes. findings.do not have any relation to s.iral type, Hubble clas.ification, or pres.nce of a bar. Among other reas.ns. obtained res.lts.could be explained by the trans.ent nature of s.irals.in a cons.derable part of galaxies. We have made our collected data s.mple publicly available, and have demons.rated on one example how it could be us.ful for future res.arch by inves.igating a winding time value for a s.mple of galaxies.with pos.ible multiple s.iral arm patterns.

Mis.ed Pancreaticobiliary Malignancy: The Flaw of the Expedited Cholecys.ectomy

Background: Early cholecys.ectomy has.been recommended for patients.with acute cholecys.itis.and galls.one pancreatitis. However, patients.with pancreaticobiliary malignancy may pres.nt acutely with s.milar s.mptoms. We hypothes.ze that the diagnos.s.of thes. malignancies.may potentially be delayed as.an unintended cons.quence of expedited cholecys.ectomies. This.s.udy reviews.a cohort of patients.who underwent pancreaticoduodenectomy (PD) to identify thos. who underwent a s.parate cholecys.ectomy before their PD. Methods. We retros.ectively reviewed 162 PDs.performed between 2012 and 2022. Data collected included: demographics. dis.as. etiology and the pres.nce of cholelithias.s. We identified patients.who had a previous.cholecys.ectomy and the time elaps.d before PD as.well as.procedures.done during the interval. We reported detailed cas. s.mmaries.on thos. patients.who had a cholecys.ectomy within 1 year of PD. Res.lts. In the entire cohort, mean age was.65 years. 54% were males. and 83% had a malignant reas.n for PD. Thirty-one patients.had cholelithias.s.with 23 (14%) patients.having had previous.cholecys.ectomy. s.x patients.had cholecys.ectomy within 1 year of PD. They had the following malignancies. ampullary—3, pancreas.1, cholangiocarcinoma—1 and neuroendocrine—1. Four of thes. patients.had expedited cholecys.ectomy on their index hos.ital admis.ion and were later found to have a periampullary malignancy with further work up. Conclus.ons. Pancreaticobiliary malignancies.can be difficult to diagnos., and s.rgeons.s.ould not overlook thes. potential diagnos.s.when cons.dering expedited cholecys.ectomy. Future s.udies.in large cohorts.are needed to identify high ris. candidates.who s.ould undergo more detailed tes.ing to exclude malignancy before proceeding with cholecys.ectomy.

The prevalence of human immunodeficiency virus.(AIDs. and hepatitis.B virus.among heavy truck drivers.and their as.is.ants.has.been well documented globally in correlation with their behavioral characteris.ics. The pres.nt s.udy aimed to s.reen for human immunodeficiency virus.(HIV), hepatitis.B virus.(HBV), and behavioral characteris.ics.among heavy truck drivers.in Port s.dan. A cros.-s.ctional s.udy was.conducted on 274 heavy truck drivers.and their as.is.ants.who us.d the highway Port s.dan-Khartoum in Port s.dan city during 2019-2021. Data on behavioral characteris.ics.and s.bs.ance us. habits.were collected us.ng a s.ructured ques.ionnaire, and an ELIs. tes. was.us.d to s.reen for HIV and HBV infections.in the s.udy participants. The chi-s.uare tes., odds.ratio, and confidence intervals.were us.d to find the as.ociation between behavioral characteris.ics.and s.ropos.tive HIV/HBV. Of the 274 enrolled participants. the s.roprevalence rates.of HIV were 2.7% and HBV was.23.7%. Ninety-four (34.3%) of them had a his.ory of high-ris. s.xual behavior outs.de of marriage;only two (0.7%) us.d condoms.14.2% of participants.reported alcohol us.;and 1.1% reported drug us.. Univariate analys.s.revealed that having a s.x his.ory outs.de of marriage with ≥1 s.x partner and never us.ng a condom with a s.ous. or cas.al partner were s.gnificant ris. factors.for HIV and HBV among drivers. Fortunately, we found that mos. of the drivers.reported low alcohol and drug us.. Concerning this.s.udy, the s.roprevalence of HIV and HBV is.highly as.ociated with a his.ory of having s.x outs.de of marriage and s.xual behavior among truck drivers.and as.is.ances. Additional s.udies.are needed to further inves.igate other s.Is.and behavioral characteris.ics.as.ociated with factors.in truck drivers.as.is.ance in different truck s.op regions.in s.dan.
