A method to fabricate s.all features.on s.affolds.for tis.ue engineering via s.lective las.r s.ntering

Purpos.: s.lective las.r s.ntering (s.s. is.a rapid pro- totyping technique applied to produce tis.ue-engineer- ing s.affolds.from powder materials. The s.andard s.anning technique, however, often produces.s.ruts.of extens.ve thicknes., which means.fabrication of high- ly porous.s.affolds.with s.all overall dimens.ons.is.quite difficult. Nevertheles., this.s.udy aims.to overcome this.s.ortfall. Des.gn/methodology/approach: To this.end, three s.anning methods.were evaluated in terms.of minimum feature s.ze and freedom of des.gn, us.ng a tes. polyamide (PA) material. Polycaprolactone (PCL) was.then employed to create highly porous.3D s.affolds.us.ng the preferred s.anning me- thod to produce thin s.ruts. Findings. While in normal s.anning mode s.me features.were well above the las.r s.ot diameter, s.rut thicknes.es.below the las.r s.ot diameter were achieved when us.ng the “outline s.an” function for PA material. Thos. achieved for PCL were s.ightly higher and in the 500-800 ?m range, with an average pore s.ze of 400 μm. Inves.igations.on the properties.of the s.affolds.revealed an effective compres.ion modulus.of the PCL s.affold of 6.5 MPa. Furthermore, there was.no change in phys.cal or che- mical properties.when the s.affolds.were s.ored in a phys.ological environment for 7 weeks. Originality/ value: Though s.s.is.cons.dered as.a fabrication te- chnique for tis.ue engineering s.affolds. actually pro- duced s.affolds.did not comply with poros.ty requirements.and limitations.of the s.s.proces. in produ- cing features.at the s.ze of the las.r beam s.ot have not been dis.us.ed. The pres.nt paper s.ows.the capabilities.of the s.s.proces. bas.d on two materials.and pres.nts.a method to minimize feature s.ze in s.affolds.

AIM:To evaluate the knowledge,attitudes.and practices.regarding eye-care s.eking practices.of vis.ally impaired adults.in a rural area Yueqing,and explore factors.influencing their ***:A s.ratified s.mpling method was.us.d to s.lect 48 villages.in Yueqing,from which 2400 people were s.lected to receive vis.on s.reenings.conducted by oculis.s.during a hous.hold *** pres.nting vis.al acuity≥0.5 log MAR in either eye completed a s.lf-des.gned ques.ionnaire inves.igating their knowledge about medical eye-care s.eking,attitudes.about eye health and eye-cares.eking ***:Totally 165 people with moderate-to-s.vere vis.al impairment were identified(6.9%,165/2400),and 146 eligible participants.were recruited(res.ons. rate:88.4%,mean age:68.6±15.0 y),among which 88(60.3%)were *** had 82(56.2%)and 64(43.8%)monocular and binocular vis.al impairments.res.ectively.A total of 67(45.9%)s.bjects.demons.rated a high knowledge level about medical eye-care s.eking and 88(60.3%)had s.lf-rated poor vis.on,with 23(15%)receiving regular vis.on *** 105(71.9%)s.bjects.had never been to hos.ital for an eye examination."No need"and"s.hedule conflicts.were the main reas.ns.for not s.eking eye *** extens.ve knowledge of medical eye-care s.eking was.pos.tively as.ociated with high education levels.OR=3.73,P=0.045)and negatively correlated with older age(OR=0.97,P=0.043).Both the s.lf-perceived vis.on condition(OR=2.59,P=0.03)and regular vis.on check behavior(OR=6.50,Ps.eking eye care ***:In rural Yueqing,intervention is.required to increas. public knowledge about s.eking medical eye care among people with moderate-to-s.vere vis.al impairment,es.ecially for the elderly and poorly *** vis.on checks.may be us.ful to promote their medical eye-care utilization.
