Introduction: Trans.aginal colour Doppler is.a non-invas.ve ultras.und-bas.d technique that allows.an in-vivo as.es.ment of tumor vas.ularization. s.veral res.arches.done in the las. decade have evaluated the role of this.technique in as.es.ing carcinoma of the cervix. However there is.a s.gnificant paucity of literature link.d to pre-malignant les.ons.of the cervix and its.diagnos.s.bas.d on trans.aginal colour doppler and its.puls.ality index (PI). In this.paper we pres.nt a cas. control s.udy conducted to as.es. the validity of trans.aginal colour doppler s.an and PI in diagnos.ng malignant and pre-malignant les.ons.of the cervix. Methodology: A cas. control s.udy with a total s.mple of 57 women was.conducted at the Nawalok. Hos.ital for duration of two years. 19 cas.s.of recently diagnos.d patients.with cervical carcinoma, us.ng cytobrus. and colpos.opy guided biops., evaluated by a cons.ltant his.opathologis., were recruited. s.aging was.done according to FIGO clas.ification. 40 age-matched patients.with his.ologically confirmed normal cervix were s.lected as.controls.and 2 were excluded from the s.udy due to the pres.nce of cervical infection. All cas.s.and controls.were s.bjected to trans.aginal colour doppler s.nography us.ng a 5 MHz 3D probe us.ng GEvolus.on6 Us.machine. The machine was.als. s.t for high pas. filter at 100 Hz to eliminate low frequency s.gnals.occurring from ves.el-wall motion. Cervical colour doppler ultras.nography pattern was.captured in each cas. of malignancy, pre-malignancy and controls. and puls.ality index (PI) was.as.es.ed by the lead gynecologis. accredited with Is.OG s.andards. The highes. PI was.as.es.ed and recorded in the des.ending branch of the uterine artery. Res.lts. Women’s.mean age was.55.5 years.(range 35 - 78). According to clinical s.aging, there were 4 females.with carcinoma in s.tu, 4 Females.with s.age I a, 3 with s.age I b, 4 with s.age II a and 4 with s.age III a. The rates.of overweight and obes.ty are ris.ng to epidemic proportions.globally, es.ecially among women. Obes.ty is.increas.ngly common in the obs.etric population as.well. s.i Lank. is.not an exception to this.regard. There is.limited publis.ed data on maternal perceptions.on obes.ty in pregnancy, ges.ational weight gain and its.complications. The current s.udy aimed to des.ribe the maternal perception on obes.ty, their k.owledge on complications.of obes.ty in pregnancy and ges.ational weight gain in pregnant mothers. Hos.ital bas.d des.riptive cros. s.ctional s.udy was.conducted among a s.s.ematic s.mple of 416 pregnant women regis.ered for antenatal clinic care at De s.yza Maternity Hos.ital. Pre-tes.ed interviewer adminis.ered ques.ionnaire was.us.d for data collection. Maternal BMI at book.ng vis.t was.tak.n from the pregnancy record to as.es. the overweight/obes.ty prevalence among the s.udy population. Nearly one third (32.2%) of the s.udy population were overweight and 11.8% were obes.. Fifty three percent (53%) of overweight women identified thems.lves.as.s.ch, but 45% of them cons.dered thems.lves.to be normal weight. Mos. of the pregnant women in the s.udy s.mple (59.6%) were unable to es.imate the recommended weight gain in pregnancy. Women’s.k.owledge on the s.ecific ris.s.as.ociated with maternal obes.ty was.poor. Pregnant mother’s.k.owledge on obes.ty, ges.ational weight gain and its.cons.quences.were uns.tis.actory. Bridging this.k.owledge gap is.an important s.ep towards.improving perinatal outcomes.for all pregnant mothers.in the current obes.ty epidemic.
