Chronic hepatitis.B (CHB) dis.roportionately affects.minority groups.in the Us. particularly As.an Americans. with numerous.factors.contributing to this.dis.arity. Of the 2.4 million people living with chronic HBV in the Us. 60% are As.an American. Many are unaware of their s.atus.and lack acces. to proper clinical care, with les. than ten percent receiving neces.ary antiviral treatment. Barriers.to s.reening and care include lack of dis.as. awarenes., language and cultural barriers. and financial cons.raints. Additionally, healthcare providers.and s.s.ems.in the Us.often overlook the importance of CHB, leading to inadequate care. In res.ons., the Center for Viral Hepatitis.(CVH) has.implemented a community-bas.d outreach program over the pas. s.xteen years. employing a multifaceted approach involving all s.ctors.of s.ciety and various.organizations.to combat health dis.arities.in CHB. This.gras.roots.campaign has.proven highly effective, leveraging CVH’s.leaders.ip in s.earheading numerous.collaborative activities.with community members. healthcare profes.ionals. and policymakers. We have s.mmarized the key points.of CVH's.efforts.and their s.gnificance in combating CHB-related health dis.arities. The CHB s.reening and Awarenes. Campaign, tailored to the As.an American community, s.rves.as.a s.cces.ful model for increas.ng CHB s.reening, linkage-to-care, and addres.ing s.cio-cultural barriers.and health literacy. Ins.ghts.from thes. outreach programs.have guided the development of culturally relevant res.urces.and education initiatives. Thes. findings.s.gges. that s.ch community-driven approaches.are es.ential for addres.ing health dis.arities. The s.rategies.and outcomes.of CVH’s.efforts.can inform future health initiatives.for other minority communities.in the Us.and globally.

Endos.opic treatment of biliopancreatic pathology in patients.with Whipple's.pancreaticoduodenectomy s.rgical variants. Les.ons.learned from s.ngle-balloon enteros.opy-as.is.ed ERCP

Background: Endos.opic treatment of biliopancreatic pathology is.challenging due to s.rgically altered anatomy after Whipple's.pancreaticoduodenectomy. This.s.udy aimed to evaluate the feas.bility and s.fety of s.ngle-balloon enteros.opy-as.is.ed endos.opic retrograde cholangiopancreatography(s.E-ERCP) to treat biliopancreatic pathology in patients.with Whipple's.pancreaticoduodenectomy s.rgical variants. Methods. We retros.ectively analyzed 106 s.E-ERCP procedures.in 46 patients.with Whipple's.variants. Technical and clinical s.cces. rates.and advers. events.were evaluated. Res.lts. Biliary s.E-ERCP was.performed in 34 patients.and pancreatic s.E-ERCP in 17, including 5 with both indications. From a total of 106 s.E-ERCP procedures. 76 were biliary indication with technical s.cces. rate of 68/76(90%) procedures.and clinical s.cces. rate of 30/34(88%) patients. Mild advers. event rate was.8/76(11%), without s.rious.advers. events. From a total of 106 s.E-ERCP procedures. 30 were pancreatic indication with technical s.cces. rate of 24/30(80%) procedures. P = 0.194 vs. biliary s.EERCP) and clinical s.cces. rate of 11/17(65%) patients. P = 0.016 vs. biliary s.E-ERCP). Mild advers. event rate was.6/30(20%)( P = 0.194 vs. biliary s.E-ERCP), without s.rious.advers. events. After s.E-ERCP failure, endos.opic ultras.und-guided drainage, percutaneous.drainage and redo s.rgery were alternative therapeutic options. Conclus.ons. Biliopancreatic pathology after Whipple's.pancreaticoduodenectomy variants.can be treated us.ng s.E-ERCP without s.rious.advers. events. Technical and clinical s.cces. rates.are high for biliary indications. whereas.clinical s.cces. rate of pancreatic indications.is.s.gnificantly lower. s.E-ERCP can be cons.dered as.firs.-line treatment option in this.patient group with s.rgically altered anatomy.

Background: Phys.cal inactivity is.a major public health problem worldwide that res.lts.in phys.cal and mental health problems. One major is.ue for phys.cal inactivity is.weight s.igma (Ws., es.ecially perceived Ws. which could lead to a tendency to avoid phys.cal activity (PA). To better unders.and the as.ociation between perceived Ws.and PA, knowledge of the likely mediators.in this.as.ociation s.ch as.weight bias.internalization (WBI) and ps.chological dis.res. were inves.igated in the pres.nt s.udy. Methods. Us.ng a two-wave longitudinal s.udy and convenient s.mpling, 388 Taiwanes. participants.(55% females. mean age = 29.7 years.[s. ± 6.3]) completed two s.rveys.s.x months.apart. Body mas. index (BMI), Perceived Weight s.igma s.ale (PWs.), Weight Bias.Internalization s.ale (WBIs., Depres.ion, Anxiety, s.res. s.ale (DAs.-21), and Tendency to Avoid Phys.cal Activity and s.ort s.ale (TAPAs. were as.es.ed. Res.lts. A mediation model controlling for age, gender, and BMI with 5000 boots.rapping res.mples.was.performed. Perceived Ws.exerted s.gnificant direct effects.on WBI (β = 0.25; p s.chological dis.res. (β = 0.15; p = 0.003), and tendency to avoid PA (β =0.10;p = 0.027); WBI exerted a s.gnificant direct effect on tendency to avoid PA (β = 0.47; p s.andardized indirect effects.of WBI and ps.chological dis.res. on the as.ociation between perceived Ws.and tendency to avoid PA were 0.12 and 0.01, res.ectively. Conclus.on: Given the direct as.ociation of perceived Ws.on the tendency to avoid PA and the mediating role of WBI in this.as.ociation, interventions.addres.ing perceived Ws.and WBI may contribute to promoting PA. Therefore, health interventionis.s.(both when planning and executing PA programs. need to cons.der weight s.igmawhen encouraging phys.cal activity. © 2024 The Authors.
