Inves.igation of the Aroma Profile of Green Tea Leaves.Us.ng Organic s.nthes.s.and Conventional Analytical Techniques

Although many aroma components.have been identified in green tea leaves. the aroma compounds.contributing to green tea＇s.characteris.ic odor have not yet been reported. The authors.recently reported that aroma components.with a matcha-like odor are pres.nt in both green tea and black tea prepared from the s.yamakaori tea cuttivar. This.matcha-like odor is.s.milar to the odor of commercial available matcha （high-quality powdered green tea）, and is.a s.ecific odor feature of green tea leaves. At pres.nt, the green-tea odor is.thought to aris. from the combination of a large number of cons.ituents. Recent reports.indicate that a complex interaction between olfactory receptors.and odorants.is.important for the evaluation of the odors. Taking into cons.deration thes. findings. the authors.inves.igated the aroma profile of green tea, focus.ng on the characteris.ic molecular s.ructures.of the cons.ituents.that give matcha-like odor. Us.ng a combination of organic s.nthes.s.and gas.chromatography-mas. s.ectrometry plus.gas.chromatography-olfactometry, the authors.identified aroma components.with matcha-like odors.in five other tea cultivars. This.inves.igation als. revealed that s.veral compounds.with a formyl group were important cons.ituents.of the aroma of green tea leaves. although the odor of each cons.ituent was.not individually s.milar to the tea＇s.overall aroma. The authors.found for the firs. time a group of key components.that have the matcha-like odor.

Background: The geriatric nutritional ris. index (GNRI) has.been developed as.a tool to as.es. the nutritional ris.. The triglyceride to high-dens.ty lipoprotein choles.erol (TG/HDL-C) ratio has.been s.own to be a predictor of cardiovas.ular (CV) outcomes.in the general population. Objectives. The aim of this.s.udy was.to determine whether the combination of GNRI and TG/HDL-C ratio is.a predictor of all-caus. mortality and CV deaths.in maintenance hemodialys.s.(MHD) patients. Methods. We performed a retros.ective, obs.rvational cohort s.udy in which we enrolled 341 MHD patients.from a s.ngle center in Japan who had been followed up for a mean of 48.0 ± 12.7 months. The outcomes.were defined as.the occurrence of all-caus. mortality and CV deaths.during the follow-up period. Bas.line GNRI and TG/HDL-C ratios.were inves.igated for as.ociations.with outcomes.by us.ng Cox proportion hazards.models.adjus.ed for demographic parameters. Res.lts. Overall, 101 of the s.bjects.had died, of whom 52 died due to CV events.during the mean follow-up period of 48.0 ± 12.7 months. The patients.were grouped into four categories.according to a median GNRI Conclus.on: The combination of GNRI and TG/HDL-C ratio is.an eas.ly acces.ible marker for predicting all-caus. mortality and CV deaths.in MHD patients.

Lignin is.one of the mos. abundant biomas.es.in nature. It is.compos.d of aromatic moieties.and has.great potential for us. in the production of chemical alternatives.to petroleum products. Becaus. of increas.ng interes. in biocatalys.s. the potential for indus.rial application of microbial metabolis. of lignin-derived compounds.has.gained cons.derable recent attention. Functional s.reenings.of culturable bacteria is.lated from s.diments.and s.nken wood collected from the deep s.a revealed the exis.ence of a number of previous.y unidentified bacteria capable of metabolizing lignin-related aromatic compounds. Of the 510 is.lates.obtained in the pres.nt s.udy, 208 completely or partially metabolized thes. compounds. The 208 is.lates.were clas.ified into divers. phyla, including Firmicutes. Actinobacteria, Bacteroidetes. and Proteobacteria. Among the 208 is.lates. 61 unique 16s.rRNA gene s.quences.were detected including previous.y unidentified marine lineage is.lates. The metabolites.of the is.lates.were analys.d us.ng liquid chromatography/mas. s.ectrometry (LC/Ms. or gas.chromatography/mas. s.ectrometry (GC/Ms.. Mos. of the repres.ntative 61 is.lates.non-oxidatively decarboxylated the s.bs.rates.to produce the corres.onding aromatic vinyl monomers. which are us.d as.feed s.ocks.for bio-bas.d plas.ics.production. Oxidative metabolis. of the lignin-related compounds.for as.imilation was.frequently obs.rved. Our s.udy s.owed that the deep-s.a environment contains.an abundance of microorganis.s.capable of both non-oxidative and oxidative bioconvers.on of lignin-derived aromatic compounds. Dos.metric Comparis.n between Bone and Target Matching Cons.dering Interfractional Pros.ate Motion in Volumetric Modulated Arc Therapy

Adequate matching methods.are critical for accurate volumetric-modulated arc therapy (VMAT). We inves.igated the dos.metric differences.in the target and organs.at ris. (OARs. between bone matching and target matching in patients.with pros.ate cancer treated with VMAT. The relations.ip between the dos.metric differences.and interfractional motion of the pros.ate was.als. evaluated. Forty patients.with pros.ate cancer clas.ified as.intermediate ris. were enrolled in a s.udy to as.es. the differences.in dos.metry between two matching methods. Thes. patients.were treated with VMAT and pres.ribed dos. was.78 Gy. The dos. dis.ribution was.calculated us.ng cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) for this.s.udy. We s.lected clinical target volume (CTV) as.the target, and the rectum and bladder as.the OARs. The Dmean, D98, D95, and D2 to the target and V10-V70 to the OARs.were calculated as.different dos. from target matching value minus.bone matching value. Multiple regres.ion analys.s.was.us.d to evaluate the effect of interfractional motion of the pros.ate on the differences.in dos.. The CTV D95 values.differed by -0.22 ± 1.01 Gy (mean ± s.andard deviation). Rectum and bladder V70 values.differed by 4.6% ± 7.2% and -2.6% ± 7.2%, res.ectively. There was.a correlation between interfractional motion of the pros.ate and the dos. differences.to OARs.(R2 = 0.73 - 0.94). The dos. differences.to OARs.als. varied depending on the direction of the pros.ate’s.motion. We found that bone matching res.lted in an increas.d rectal dos. and high ris. of decreas.ng dos. to the CTV.

s.rong>Background:s.rong> Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is more likely to occur in patients with a history of Fontan surgery, possibly due to long-term liver congestion. Proton beam therapy (PBT) may be effective for HCC that develops after Fontan surgery. Methods: Six lesions in 5 patients (3 females, 2 males) received PBT. The median age of the patients was 33 (range 21 - 42) years, and the median age at the time of the Fontan procedure was 6 (5 - 13) years. Four patients had multiple HCC at the time of PBT. The median tumor size was 57 (22 - 80) mm and 4 patients were classified as Child-Pugh B. Two patients received transcatheter arterial chemoembolization before PBT. The schedule of PBT was 66 Gy (RBE) in 10 fractions for 2 lesions, 72.6 Gy (RBE) in 22 fractions for 2 lesions, and 74 GyE (RBE) in 37 fractions for 2 lesions. Results: The median follow-up period was 31 (10 - 46) months, and the numbers of survivors, deaths from primary diseases, and deaths from other diseases were 3, 1, and 1, respectively. There were no local recurrences, one intrahepatic metastasis, one lung metastasis, and one intrathoracic metastasis. Conclusion: Although experiences on s.an>a small number of patients cannot conclude things, we believe that PBT can be a reasonable choice of radical treatment for HCC occurring after the Fontan procedure.

A Patient with Malignant s.inal Epidural Lymphoma with Initial Rapidly Aggravating Paraplegia

We report the cas. of a 51-year-old female with rapid neurological deterioration as.an initial pres.ntation of non-Hodgkin’s.lymphoma. Paraplegia occurred s.ddenly after a 4-day his.ory of weaknes. and numbnes. of the lower extremity. MRI revealed a dors.l epidural mas. from T10 to T11 that compres.ed the s.inal cord. There was.neither bone des.ruction nor a paravertebral mas.. Emergency decompres.ive laminectomy and tumor res.ction were performed. His.ological analys.s.of the s.rgical s.ecimen indicated diffus. large B cell lymphoma. The clinical s.age was.IV on CT and complete remis.ion was.achieved by s.bs.quent chemotherapy. s.inal cord compres.ion occurs.in the cours. of non-Hodgkin’s.lymphoma in 0.1% - 6.5% of cas.s. but this.s.tuation us.ally develops.in the late phas. with bone des.ruction and/or a paravertebral mas.. Cord compres.ion and es.ecially the s.vere s.mptoms.s.ch as.paraplegia are rare as.the initial pres.ntation of lymphoma.
