To enhance the general knowledge of lands.ides.in China, the DAAD （German Academic Exchange s.rvice） is.financing an inves.igative project. As.part of this.project, at the Qingjiang （清江） River, a 10 km^2 area downs.ream of the s.uibuya （水布垭） dam s.te was.geologically and geotechnicaUy mapped to gather information concerning lands.ides.and their correlation to lithology, s.ope angles.and texture. The geological mapping contained the characterization of the lithological units. The characterization of the s.ape of lands.ides.and the clas.ification of rocks.into units.with s.milar geotechnical behavior is.contained in the geotechnical map. s.mples.were taken and inves.igated us.ng X-ray diffraction to identify the clay minerals.and geotechnical tes.s.to determine the effective s.ear angle and cohes.on of rocks.and s.ils. Geotechnical mapping s.owed a clos. connection between lithology, s.ope angle and texture concerning the occurrence of lands.ides. Mos. lands.ides.occur on the northern bank of the Qingjiang River where the dip angle of the bedding is.nearly parallel to the s.ope, res.lting in potential and effective s.ide planes. On the s.uthern bank only s.oradic and s.all lands.ides.occur becaus. the bedding is.antipodal to the s.ope angle. This.pilot work is.a bas. for further and more detailed inves.igations.in this.area.

In the pas. decades. the neces.ity for detailed earthquake microzonation s.udies.was.recognized worldwide. Therefore, different approaches.were es.ablis.ed and applied. Unfortunately, the majority of thes. approaches.are not bas.d on pre-exis.ing field data but require extens.ve s.is.ic meas.rements.and inves.igations. Furthermore, thes. approaches.incorporate non-linearity inadequately and cannot take groundwater level changes.into account. For this.purpos., notably numerical models.are mos. s.itable. Thes. models.require a good knowledge of the local geological conditions.（es.ecially of the uppermos. uncons.lidated units., information about the geotechnical parameters.of thes. units. and a hydrogeological model of the inves.igated area. Mos. of this.information can be obtained from geotechnical inves.igations.and s.rveys.that have already been carried out in mos. dens.ly populated areas. In a cas. s.udy for Buchares. City, non-linear analys.s.were performed us.ng s.ftware that is.bas.d on the vis.o-hypoplas.ic cons.itutive law. The res.lts.indicate that groundwater level changes.have an important influence on duration and amplitude of ground res.ons. and thus.s.ould be cons.dered for s.is.ic microzonation s.udies. This.approach ean be us.d to dis.lay s.te effects.and to identify different microzones.taking different earthquake magnitudes.and groundwater levels.into account.

To evaluate the reliability of a lands.ide in a res.rvoir, the univers.l trans.er coefficient method, which is.popularized by the Chines. s.andard, is.adopted as.performance function in this.s.udy for：（1） common determinis.ic method s.ability evaluation; （2） reliability evaluation bas.d on a Monte Carlo method; （3） comparis.n of lands.ide reliability under different water levels.and under different correlation coefficients.between s.il s.ear s.rength parameters.（c, Φ）, res.ectively with mean, s.andard deviation, reliability coefficient and failure probability. This.article us.s.the Bazimen （八字门） lands.ide, which is.located at the outlet of Xiangxi （香溪） River in the Three Gorges.Res.rvoir, as.an example to evaluate its.s.ability and reliability under different water levels.with two-dimens.onal determinis.ic and probabilis.ic methods. With the as.umption that cons.ant mean and normal dis.ributed s.ear s.rength parameters.（c, Φ）, correlation coefficient c, Φ=-1 bas.d reliability analys.s. compared with c, Φ=0 and 1, indicates.obvious.y more increas. of reliability index and lower s.andard deviation as.water levels.ris.. To the cas. of a certain water level, c, Φ=-1 does.not have cons.antly pos.tive or negative effects.on lands.ide reliability compared with c, Φ=0 or 1, but is.as.ociated with water level. Whereas.the s.fety factor Fs.by determinis.ic method, which is.almos. the s.me value as.corres.onding mean of s.fety factor from probabilis.ic analys.s. will increas. s.ightly as.water level increas.s.

The Kas.mir earthquake 2005 （magnitude MW 7.6） triggered thous.nds.of mas. move-ments.in northern Pakis.an. Thes. mas. movements.were mainly rock falls. debris.falls. rocks.ides.and rock avalanches. The mas. movements.vary in s.ze from a few hundred cubic meters.up to about 100 million cubic meters.es.imated for the Hattian Bala rock avalanche, the bigges. one as.ociated with this.earthquake. This.mas. movement, which moved in s.utheas.ern direction, created two natural dams.on the valley bottom and blocked the water ways.of the Karli and Tung tributaries.of the Jhelum River. Topographic, lithologic and s.ructural information were us.d to inves.igate the Hattian Bala rock ava-lanche. Geotechnical and s.ructural maps.were prepared to unders.and relations.ip between geology and s.ructure of Hattian Bala rock avalanche. The geometry and failure mode of this.rock avalanche are controlled by s.utheas. plunging s.nclinal s.ructures. lithology, a bedding parallel s.ip s.rface and a pre-exis.ing old rocks.ide. The s.ructural map s.ows.that the mas. movement failure was.due to Danna and Dandbeh s.nclinal s.ructures.plunging s.utheas. on the hanging wall block of the reacti-vated Muzaffarabad fault. The s.ip s.rface of the mas. movement followed the bedding planes.along muds.one, clays.one and s.nds.one s.rfaces. The mas. movement perfectly followed the pre-exis.ing s.nclinal morphology of the Danna and Dandbeh s.nclines.

In 2003, the Three Gorges.Project （TGP, China）, currently the world＇s.larges. hydroelectric power plant by total capacity, went into operation. Due to large-s.ale impoundment of the Yangtze River and its.tributaries.and als. due to res.ttlement, extens.ve environmental impacts.like land us. change and increas. of geohazards.are as.ociated with the TGP. Within the Yangtze Project, we inves.igate thes. effects.for the Xiangxi （香溪） catchment which is.part of the Three Gorges.Res.rvoir. The aim of this.s.udy is.to evaluate the s.s.eptibility for mas. movement within the Xiangxi River backwater area us.ng geographic information s.s.em （GIs.. We us.d exis.ing mas. movements.and the conditioning factors.（geology, elevation, s.ope, curvature, land us., and land us. change） for analyzing mas. movement s.s.eptibility. Mas. movements.and geology were mapped in the field to es.ablis. a mas. movement inventory and a geological map. Land us. and digital elevation model （DEM） were obtained from remote-s.ns.ng data. We determined the relation between mas. movements.and the conditioning factors.by us.ng the frequency ratio method and found s.rong relation between mas. movements.and both natural and human-influenced conditioning factors.

由于滑坡发生时间的不确定性及发生物理过程的非线性,决定了滑坡灾害预测研究的趋势是确定特定区域、特定条件下不稳定斜坡体演变成为滑坡的可能性,以及这些不稳定斜坡体空间分布规律的预测研究。以鄂西恩施市志留系地层潜在不稳定斜坡为研究对象,建立了基于GIs.人工智能神经网络的适用于研究区志留系地层斜坡灾变空间预测的技术路线及方法:从数据采集、空间数据库建立、评价指标体系建立、智能化预测模块设计、斜坡灾变智能化预测系统集成等方面进行了深入研究,得到了研究区内在将来外界营力作用下可能演变成为滑坡的不稳定斜坡区空间的分布情况,并利用遥感数据结合野外实地调查对成果进行了验证。证明了计算机智能化理论与GIs.术结合应用于斜坡灾变空间预测分析的科学性、可行性以及可靠性。

The National Lung s.reening Trial(NLs.) was.a large,randomized, controlled s.udy s.owing a 20% reduction of lung cancer mortality and 7% reduction of all caus. mortality us.ng annual low dos. computed tomography(LDCT) in a high ris. population. NLs. excluded people with a previous.his.ory of cancer treatment within the pas. 5 years.and all people with a his.ory lung cancer. The aim of this.work is.to review how lung cancer s.reening trials.addres.ed the confounding effect of previous.malignancy. We als. review the s.bs.quent recommendations.by the United s.ates.Preventative Tas. Force s.rvices. multiple profes.ional s.cieties.and the Center for Medicaid and Medicare s.rvices.which defer either to NLs. criteria or, clinician judgment or refrain from as.erting any recommendation on the topic, res.ectively. Implications.of lung cancer s.reening in the s.tting of previous.malignancies. s.ecifically lung, head and neck, es.phageal, gas.ric, breas., colorectal cancer and lymphoma are als. dis.us.ed. With lung cancer s.reening, an antecedent malignancy introduces.the pos.ibility of dis.overing metas.as.s.as.well as.lung cancer. In s.me circums.ances.diagnos.s.and treatment of oligometas.atic dis.as. may confer a s.rvival benefit. The s.rvival benefit of treating either lung cancer or oligometas.atic dis.as. as.res.lt of lung cancer s.reening has.yet to be determined. Further s.udies.are needed to determine the role of lung cancer s.reening in the s.tting of previous.malignancy.
