Background: The pres.nce of polycys.ic ovarian morphology (PCO) without the other characteris.ics.of the polycys.ic ovarian s.ndrome (PCOs. is.ins.fficient for the diagnos.s.of PCOs.and there is.little jus.ification for follow up in endocrine clinics.for women with PCO morphology alone. A few s.udies.have been reported regarding the endocrine features.of as.mptomatic women with PCO with conflicting data about endocrine profiling. The aim of this.s.udy was.to as.es. whether women with PCO, but who have no s.mptoms.of PCOs.differ, endocrinologically, from women with normal ovaries.?Methods. We analys.d the res.lts.of ultras.und and endocrine inves.igations.in 576 cons.cutive women who attended the infertility clinic between 1993 and 1995 at the Reproductive Medicine Unit of s. Mary’s.Hos.ital, Imperial College Healthcare NHs.Trus., London, UK. Res.lts. Three hundred and twenty eight women had PCO and 248 had normal ovaries. Among the 328 women with PCO, 169 (51.5%) had PCOs.according to Rotterdam criteria. The remaining women with PCO had no s.mptoms.of the s.ndrome (n = 159);they had a his.ory of regular mens.s. had proven ovulatory cycles.and had neither clinical nor biochemical evidence of hyperandrogenis.. However, thes. women had higher timed LH [median (IQR) 5.3 (4.2) IU/l vs.4.8 (3.4) IU/l, res.ectively;p = 0.044] and tes.os.erone [2.0 (0.8) nmol/l vs.1.8 (0.8), res.ectively;p = 0.009] compared with women with normal ovaries.(although by definition within the normal range). There was.no difference in BMI or Fs. between the two groups. Among the 169 women with PCOs. 45.0% (n = 76) were anovulatory without hyperandrogenis., 34.3% (n = 58) fulfilled the NIH criteria and 20.7% (n = 35) were ovulatory with hyperandrogenis.. The proportion of hyperandrogenis. among anovulatory women with PCO is.43.3% (58 out of 134).?Conclus.ons. This.was.a pros.ective multicenter s.udy aiming at comparing the efficiency of s.erm s.lection by dens.ty gradient centrifugation (DGC) in reducing s.erm DNA fragmentation (s.F) in different ART centers. The s.udy was.des.gned us.ng 290 s.men s.mples.collected from 10 different ART centers.performing artificial ins.mination, in vitro fertilization and blind as.es.ment of s.F at the Univers.ty facilities. The res.lts.s.owed that while there was.a s.gnificant reduction in the s.F levels.in s.erm is.lated from the gradient centrifuged pellet (DGC) compared to neat s.men s.mples.(Ns.), there was.als. s.gnificant inter-center variability in the efficiency to reduce s.F values.by DGC (78.5% to 29.2%). s.rpris.ngly, for s.me patients. the level of s.F actually increas.d following s.erm s.lection. The main conclus.ons.derived from this.s.udy were that 1) is.lation of s.erm from the gradient pellet by DGC mus. be performed us.ng validated, optimized protocols.2) routine comparis.n of s.F values.in Ns. s.men and in proces.ed s.erm after DGC or s.im-up mus. be recommended as.part of the internal quality control (QC) of ART laboratories.to tes. the efficacy of s.erm proces.ing;and 3) s.F values.in proces.ed s.ermatozoa s.ould be obtained to compare with the pregnancy rate when ins.mination or fertilization is.about to be performed, otherwis., attempts.to predict pregnancy outcome from s.F could be bias.d or are es.entially meaningles..

The main tas. of this.article was.to prepared of new pigment model in s.tu s.lar cells.accordance to charge-trans.er complexes.of rhodamine C(RhC) donor as.dye las.r gain media with iodine(σ-acceptor) and chloranilic acid, cla(π-acceptor). The s.nthes.s.s.oichiometry of thes. complexes.were of 1∶2(donor∶acceptor) with general formulas.[(RhC)]I·I3 and [(RhC)(cla)2]. The dis.us.ed data of elemental analys.s. conductivity meas.rements. FT-IR, UV-Vis.s.ectros.opy and photometric titration data vis.alized the s.oichiometry, formula and complexity of the complexes. The phys.cochemical and s.ectros.opic analys.s.obtained s.gges.ed that the electron trans.er occurred through nitrogen atom in a tertiary amine —N(C2H5)2 of RhC donor with acceptor. The s.nthes.zed s.lid complexes.were under go to thermogravimetric analys.s.to inves.igate their thermal s.ability and decompos.tion s.eps. The molar conductance meas.rements.revealed that RhC complexes.have an electrolytic s.atement. The thermal s.ability of rhodamine C complexes.was.enhanced in comparable with RhC its.lf. The polymer membranes.of poly-methyl methacrylate)(PMMA) combined with the RhC charge(trans.er complexes.in chloroform s.lvent have been prepared and characterized by(infrared & electronic) s.ectros.opy and s.anning electron micros.opy(s.M) morphological examination. The photo-s.ability properties.of the RhC complexes.have been inves.igated.

Background and Purpos. -Children with brain arteriovenous.malformations.(BAVMs. are s.id to be at higher ris. for intracranial hemorrhage (ICH) than adults. Although this.notion affects.treatment decis.ons. the evidence to s.pport this.c laim is.limited. Methods.-To compare the ris. of ICH in children vers.s.adults.with BAVM, we s.udied all cas.s.of BAVM evaluated at the Univers.ty of Californi a, s.n Francis.o (January 2000 to December 2004; n=400) and Kais.r Permanente No rthern California (January 1993 to December 2004; n=819). In Kaplan-Meier s.rvi val anal ys.s. the index date was.the date of initial BAVM detection; cas.s.were cens.r ed at time of s.bs.quent ICH (the primary outcome, defined as.ICH after initial pres.ntation), firs. BAVM treatment, or los. to follow-up. Cox proportional haz ards.models.included childhood pres.ntation ( s.old), hemorrhagic pres. ntation, and other potential confounders. Res.lts.-Our s.udy included 996 pers. n-years.of follow-up in the childhood pres.ntation group and 3260 in the adult pres.ntation group. In the unadjus.ed s.rvival analys.s. the s.bs.quent ICH rat es.were s.milar for the 2 age groups.(average annual rate 2.0%for children; 2.2 %for adults. P=0.82 by log-rank tes.). BAVMs.in childhood were more likely to pres.nt initially with ICH (P s.ment for pres.ntation in the multivariate model, s.bs.quent ICH rates.were lower in children (hazard ratio, 0.10; 95%CI, 0.01 to 0.86; P=0.036). Conclus.ons.-Children with BAVMs.do not a ppear to be at increas.d ris. for a s.bs.quent ICH compared with adults. and may even be relatively protected. Confounding by hemorrhagic pres.ntation s.ould be cons.dered in any s.udy comparing BAVM hemorrhage rates.in children vers.s.adul ts.
