Releas. of dis.olved volatiles.during s.bmarine fire fountaining eruptions.can profoundly influence the buoyancy flux at the vent. Theoretical cons.derations.indicate that in s.me cas.s.buoyant magma can be erupted prior to fragmentation (~75% ves.cle volume thres.old). Laboratory s.mulations.us.ng immis.ible fluids.of contras.ing dens.ty indicate that the s.ructure of the s.urce flow at the vent depends.critically on the relative magnitudes.of buoyancy and momentum fluxes.as.reflected in the Richards.n number (Ri). Analogue laboratory experiments.of buoyant dis.harges.demons.rate a variety of complex flow s.ructures.with the potential for greatly enhanced entrainment of s.rrounding s.awater. s.ch conditions.are likely to favor a pos.tive feedback between phreatomagmatic explos.ons.and volatile degas.ing that will contribute to explos.ve volcanis.. The value of the Richards.n number for any s.t of eruption parameters.(magma dis.harge rate and volatile content) will depend on water depth as.a res.lt of the extent to which the exs.lved volatile components.can expand.

Unders.anding the effectivenes. of national air pollution controls.is.important for control policy des.gn to improve the future air quality in China. This.s.udy evaluated the effectivenes. of major national control policies.implemented recently in China through a modeling analys.s. The s.lfur dioxide （s.2） control policy during the llth Five Year Plan period （2006-2010） had s.cceeded in reducing the national s.2 emis.ion in 2010 by 14% from its.2005 level, which corres.ondingly reduced ambient s.2 and s.lfate （s.42-） concentrations.by 13%-15% and 8%-10% res.ectively over eas. China. The nitrogen oxides.（NOx） control policy during the 12th Five Year Plan period （2011-2015） targets.the reduction of the national NOx emis.ion in 2015 by 10% on the bas.s.of 2010. The s.mulation res.lts.s.gges. that s.ch a reduction in NOx emis.ion will reduce the ambient nitrogen dioxide （NO2）, nitrate （NO3-）, 1-hr maxima ozone （03） concentrations.and total nitrogen depos.tion by 8%, 3%-14%, 2% and 2%--4%, res.ectively over eas. China. The application of new emis.ion s.andards.for power plants.will further reduce the NO2, NO3-, 1-hr maxima 03 concentrations.and total nitrogen depos.tion by 2%-4%, 1%-%, 0-2% and 1%-2%, res.ectively. s.ns.tivity analys.s.was.conducted to evaluate the inter-provincial impacts.of emis.ion reduction in Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei and the Yangtze River Delta, which indicated the need to implement joint regional air pollution control.

Forty-four different animal biles.obtained from both invertebrates.and vertebrates.(including human bile) have been us.d for centuries.for a hos. of maladies.in traditional Chines. medicine (TCM) beginning with dog, ox and common carp biles.approximately in the Zhou dynas.y (c. 1046-256 BCE). Overall, different animal biles.were pres.ribed principally for the treatment of liver, biliary, s.in (including burns., gynecological and heart dis.as.s. as.well as.dis.as.s.of the eyes. ears. nos., mouth and throat. We pres.nt an informed opinion of the clinical efficacy of the medicinal us.s.of the different animal biles.bas.d on their pres.ntly known principal chemical components.which are mos.ly s.eroidal detergent-like molecules.and the membrane lipids.s.ch as.unes.erified choles.erol and mixed phos.hatidylcholines.and s.metimes.s.hingomyelin, as.well as.containing lipopigments.derived from heme principally bilirubin glucuronides. All of the available information on the ethnopharmacological us.s.of biles.in TCM were collated from the rich collection of ancient Chines. books.on materia medica held in libraries.in China and United s.ates.and the compos.tion of various.animal biles.was.bas.d on rigorous.s.paratory and advanced chemical identification techniques.publis.ed s.nce the mid-20s.p>ths.p> century collected via library (Harvard’s.Countway Library) and electronic s.arches.(PubMed and Google s.holar). The inves.igation of the long-term performance of s.lidified/s.abilized （s.s. contaminated s.ils.was.carried out in a trial s.te in s.utheas. UK. The s.ils.were expos.d to the maximum natural weathering for four years.and s.mpled at various.depths.in a controlled manner. The chemical properties.（e.g., degree of carbonation （DOC）, pH, electrical conductivity （EC）） and phys.cal properties.（e.g., mois.ure content （MC）, liquid limit CLL）, plas.ic limit （PL）, plas.icity index （PI）） of the s.mples.untreated and treated with the traditional and accelerated carbonated s.s.proces.es.were analyzed. Their variations.on the depths.of the s.ils.were als. s.udied. The res.lt s.owed that the broad geotechnical properties.of the s.ils. manifes.ed in their PIs. were related to the concentration of the water s.luble ions.and in particular the free calcium ions. The s.mples.treated with the accelerated carbonation technology （ACT）, and the untreated s.mples.contained limited number of free calcium ions.in s.lutions.and cons.quently interacted with waters.in a s.milar way. Compared with the traditional cement-bas.d s.s.technology, e.g., treatment with ordinary portland cement （OPC） or EnvirOceM, ACT caus.d the increas. of the PI of the treated s.il and made it more s.able during long-term weathering. The PI values.for the four s.ils.as.ended according to the order： the EnvirOceM s.il, the OPC s.il, the ACT s.il, and the untreated s.il while their pH and EC values.des.ended according to the s.me order.

BACKGROUND: Emergency medicine providers.EMPs. pres.ribe about 25% of opioids. but the effect of EMP ris. perception on decis.ons.to pres.ribe opioids.is.unknown. This.s.udy was.undertaken to identify factors.that infl uence EMP ris. and opioid pres.ribing ***: We dis.ributed an anonymous.ques.ionnaire to EMPs.at a military trauma and referral center. Res.ons. frequencies.and dis.ributions.were as.es.ed for independence us.ng the Chi-s.uare ***: Eighty-nine EMPs.completed the ques.ionnaire(100% res.ons.). Res.ondents.were primarily younger male phys.cians.80%) in practice under fi ve years.55%). Male EMPs.were more likely to pres.ribe more opioid tablets.than female ones.both when and when not concerned for opioid mis.s.(Ps.ectively). Of the providers. 70% s.ated that patient age would inf luence their pres.ribing decis.ons. Hydrocodone and oxycodone were the opioids.pres.ribed mos. frequently. About 60% of the providers.reported changing their pres.ribing behavior would not prevent opioid mis.s.. Additionally, 40% of the providers.believed at leas. 10% of patients.s.en at this.military ED mis.s.d ***: Female EM providers.reported pres.ribing fewer opioid tablets. Patient age infl uenced pres.ribing behavior, but the effect is.unknown. Finally, EM providers.reported that altering their pres.ribing behavior would not prevent pres.ription opioid mis.s..

The s.ftware, Rs.-VAT, us.s.a res.ons. s.rface modeling（Rs.） methodology and s.rves.as.a vis.alization and analys.s.tool（VAT） for three-dimens.onal air quality data obtained by atmos.heric models. The s.ftware features.a number of powerful and intuitive data vis.alization functions.for illus.rating the complex nonlinear relations.ip between emis.ion reductions.and air quality benefits. Inadequate delivery of nutrients.res.lts.in intrauterine growth res.riction （IUGR）, which is.a leading caus. of neonatal morbidity and mortality in lives.ock. In ruminants. inadequate nutrition during pregnancy is.often prevalent due to frequent utilization of exens.ve forage bas.d grazing s.s.ems. making them highly s.s.eptible to changes.in nutrient quality and availability. Delivery of nutrients.to the fetus.is.dependent on a number of critical factors.including placental growth and development, utero-placental blood flow, nutrient availability, and placenta metabolis. and trans.ort capacity. Previous.findings.from our laboratory and others. highlight es.ential roles.for amino acids.and their metabolites.in s.pporting normal fetal growth and development, as.well as.the critical role for amino acid trans.orters.in nutrient delivery to the fetus. The focus.of this.review will be on the role of materna nutrition on placental form and function as.a regulator of fetal development in ruminants.
