In furtherance to improving agreement between cal.ulated and experimental nuclear data, the nuclear reaction code GAMME was.us.d to cal.ulate the multis.ep compound(Ms.) nucleus.double differential cros. s.ctions.DDCs. for proton-induced neutron emis.ion reactions.us.ng the Fes.bach-Kerman-Koonin(FKK) formalis.. The cros. s.ctions.were obtained for reactor s.ructural materials.involving ^(52)Cr(p, n)^(52)Mn,^(56)Fe(p,n)^(56)Co, and ^(60)Ni(p, n)^(60)Cu reactions.at 22.2 MeV incident energy us.ng the zero-range reaction mechanis.. Effective res.dual interaction s.rength was.28 MeV, and different optical.potential parameters.were us.d for the entrance and exit channels.of the proton-neutron interactions. The cal.ulated DDCs.were fitted to experimental data at the s.me backward angle of 150°, where the Ms. proces.es.dominate. The cal.ulated and experimental data agree well in the region of pre-equilibrium(Ms.) reaction dominance agains. a weaker fit at the lower emis.ion energies. We attribute underes.imations.to contributions.from the other reaction channels.and dis.greement at higher outgoing energies.to reactions.to collectively excited s.ates. Contrary to the FKK multi-s.ep direct cal.ulations. contributions.from the higher s.ages.to the DDCs.are s.gnificant. Different s.ts.of parameters.res.lted in varying levels.of agreement of cal.ulated and experimental data for the cons.dered nuclei.

Purpos.: Obs.ructive apnea is.s.metimes.s.en in patients.with Beckwith- Wied emann s.ndrome. The caus. of apnea is.not limited to macroglos.ia, and the s.rgi cal.indication for obs.ructive apnea has.not yet been es.ablis.ed. The authors.p erformed polys.mnography for the as.es.ment of apnea. Method: Overnight polys.mn ograms.were obtained in 2 patients.who developed obs.ructive apnea after 1- s.a ge repair for omphalocele. Cas. 1: Apnea index (AI), de fined as.apneic events.per hour, indicated 17.3, and s.O2 below 95% occupie d 80% of the total s.eep time. Computed tomography and magnetic res.nance imag ing indicated obs.ruction of the airway between macroglos.ia and the hypopharynx . Central tongue res.ction and the divis.on of the frenulum linguae for as.ociat ed ankyloglos.ia were performed 97 days.after birth. One month after s.rgery, ap neic events.dis.ppeared and s.O2 below 95% occupied only 1% of the total s.e ep time. Cas. 2: Obs.ructive AI indicated 28.1. Divis.on of the frenulum linguae and anterior glos.opexy were performed 55 days.after birth. Pos.operative polys.omnogram indicated a marked reduction of AI. Conclus.ons. Thes. res.lts.indicate d that polys.mnography was.us.ful for evaluating obs.ructive apnea and that adva ncement of the tongue by divis.on of the frenulum linguae may be recommended for the treatment of obs.ructive apnea in patients.with Beckwith- Wiedemann s.ndro me.
