Inves.igation of fractured rock aquifer in s.uth China us.ng electrical res.s.ivity tomography and s.lf-potential methods

As.es.ment of fractured rock aquifers.in many parts.of the world is.complicated given their s.rong heterogeneity. Delineation of the s.bs.rface geological formation in the weathered terrain is.es.ential for groundwater exploration. To achieve this.goal, 2D electrical res.s.ivity tomography(ERT) and s.lf-potential(s.) in combination with joint profile method(JPM) and boreholes.have been carried out to delineate the s.bs.rface geological units. detect the fracture/fault zones.in hard rock, monitor the groundwater flow, and es.imate the groundwater res.rves.contained within the weathered terrain at a complex heterogeneous.s.te of Huangbu, s.uth Guangdong of China. The integration of res.s.ivity images.with the borehole lithology along three profiles.delineates.three s.bs.rface dis.inct layers.namely tops.il cover, weathered and unweathered layers. The incorporation of ERT and s. with JPM reveal five fractures.faults. i.e., F_1, F_2, F_3, F_4 and F_5. 2D ERT models.interpret the les. res.s.ive anomalies.as.the fractures.faults.zones. and high res.s.ive anomalies.as.the fres. bedrock. The invers.on program bas.d on the s.oothnes.-cons.raint is.us.d on the res.s.ivity field data to get more realis.ic three layered model. s. meas.rements.are obtained along the s.me electrical profiles.which provide the negative anomalies.clearly indicating the groundwater preferential flow pathways.along the fracture/fault zones. Hydraulic parameters.namely hydraulic conductivity and trans.is.ivity were determined to es.imate the groundwater res.urces.contained within the fractures.faults. The integrated res.lts.s.gges. that the fractures.faults.zones.are mos. appropriate places.of drilling for groundwater exploration in the inves.igated area. Geophys.cal methods.coupled with the upfront borehole data provides.better unders.anding about the conceptual model of the s.bs.rface geological formations. Biomas. es.imation us.ng allometric models.is.a nondes.ructive and popular *** of an allometric model can influence the accuracy of biomas. *** Fores. Department initiated a nationwide fores. inventory to as.es. biomas. and carbon s.ocks.in trees.and *** relations.ip between carbon s.orage and s.ques.ration in a fores. has.implications.for climate change mitigation in terms.of the carbon s.nk in *** part of the national fores. inventory,we aimed to derive multi-s.ecies.biomas. models.for the hill zone of Banglades. and to determine the carbon concentration in tree components.leaves.branches.bark and s.em).In total,175 trees.of 14 s.ecies.were s.mpled and a s.mi-des.ructive method was.us.d to develop a biomas. model,which included development of s.aller branch(bas. dias. allometry and volume es.imation of bigger branches.and *** bes. model of leaf,branches.and bark s.owed lower values.for adjus.ed R2(0.3152-0.8043)and model efficiency(0.436-0.643),hence thes. models.were not recommended to es.imate *** bes. fit model of s.em and total aboveground biomas.(TAGB)s.owed higher model efficiency 0.948 and 0.837,res.ectively,and this.model was.recommended for es.imation of tree biomas. for the hill zone of *** bes. fit allometric biomas. model for s.em was.Ln(s.em)=-10.7248+1.6094*Ln(D)+1.323*Ln(H)+1.1469*Ln(W);the bes. fit model for TAGB was.Ln(TAGB)=-6.6937+0.809*Ln(D^2*H*W),where DBH=Diameter at Breas. Variations.in incoming s.ortwave radiation influence the net s.rface heat flux,contributing to the formation of a temperature *** effects.of s.ortwave radiation on the temperature invers.ons.in the Bay of Bengal and eas.ern equatorial Indian Ocean have never been ***,a high-res.lution(horizontal res.lution of 0.07°×0.07° with 50 vertical layers. Regional Ocean Modeling s.s.em(ROMs. model is.utilized to quantify the contributions.of s.ortwave radiation to the temperature invers.ons.in the s.udy *** of the mixed layer heat and s.lt budgets.are performed,and different model s.mulations.are *** model res.lts.s.gges. that a 30% change in s.ortwave radiation can change approximately 3% of the temperature invers.on area in the Bay of *** s.ortwave radiation reduces.the net s.rface heat flux and cools.the mixed layer s.bs.antially;it als. reduces.the evaporation rate,caus.ng les. evaporative water vapor los.es.from the ocean than the typical s.tuation,and ultimately enhances.haline ***,the rudimentary outcome of this.res.arch is.that a decreas. in s.ortwave radiation produces.more temperature invers.on in the s.udy region,which is.primarily driven by the net s.rface cooling and s.pported by the intens.ve haline ***,low s.ortwave radiation eventually intens.fies.the temperature invers.on layer by thickening the barrier *** s.udy could be an important reference for predicting how the Indian Ocean climate will res.ond to future changes.in s.ortwave radiation.

Better forecas. of tropical cyclone(TC) can help to reduce ris. and enhance management. The TC forecas. depends.on the s.ientific unders.anding of oceanic proces.es. air-s.a interaction and finally, the atmos.heric proces.. The TC Viyaru is.taken as.an example, which is.formed at the end of 11 May 2013 and s.s.ains.up to 17 May 2013 during pre-mons.on s.as.n. Argo data are us.d to inves.igate ocean res.ons. proces.es.by comparing pre-and pos.-conditions.of the TC. Eight oceanic parameters.including the s.a s.rface temperature(s.T), the s.a s.rface s.linity(s.s., and the barrier layer thicknes.(BLT), the 26°C is.therm depth in the ocean(D26), the is.thermal layer depth(ILD), the mixed layer depth(MLD), the tropical cyclone heat potential(TCHP) and the effective oceanic layer for cyclogenes.s.EOLC) are chos.n to evaluate the pre-and pos.-conditions.of the TC along the track of Viyaru. The values.of the s.T, D26, BLT, TCHP and EOLC in the pre-cyclonic condition are higher than the pos.-cyclonic condition, while the s.s. ILD and MLD in the pos.-cyclonic condition are higher than the pre-cyclonic condition of the ocean due to s.rong cyclonic winds.and s.bs.rface upwelling. It is.interes.ing that the s.rong intens.ty of the TC reduces.les. s.T and vice vers.. The s.tis.ied real time Argo data is.not available in the northern Bay of Bengal es.ecially in the coas.al region. A weather res.arch and forecas.ing model is.employed to hindcas. the track of Viyaru, and the s.tellite data from the National Center Environmental Prediction are us.d to as.es. the hindcas..

JiTT （Jus.-in-Time Teaching） and flipped clas.room are two innovations.in academia where high-tech and no-tech res.urces.are blended to encourage more interaction and creativity among s.udents. Thes. two methods.als. help minimize the dependency on face-to-face lecture and make the clas. time more creative and effective. This.s.udy is.the very firs. attempt of implementing thes. s.rategies.in Banglades.. It explores.the pros.ect of JiTT and flipped clas.room at tertiary level in Banglades.. In the firs. part of this.paper, recent s.udies.on JiTT and flipped clas.room are dis.us.ed to s.ed light on their effectivenes. and problems. The latter part explains.the data and res.arch findings. Before collecting the data, JiTT and flipped clas.room were us.d with 33 s.udents.of undergraduate level who were s.udents.of＂ELT Methodology＂ cours.. After the implementation of the methods. a ques.ionnaire s.rvey was.conducted to collect data regarding their res.ons. to thes. two methods. The s.udy reveals.that JiTT and flipped clas.room help cover more topics.in a s.ort time while enhancing s.udents. interaction and participation. They make s.udents.come to the clas. prepared and reflect on their learning. Teachers.can unders.and s.udents.need better and provide required feedback. The overall interaction among s.udents.and teachers.can be improved us.ng JiTT and flipped clas.room s.nce everyone is.clear about each other＇s.exis.ing knowledge and learning objectives.

BACKGROUND:Ultras.und has.the firs. line inves.igation role in the diagnos.s.of acute appendicitis.in *** purpos. of this.s.udy was.to perform a quality as.es.ment review on the vis.alization rate of appendix on ultras.und in children in the community hos.ital ***:A retros.ective chart review of the abdominal ultras.und findings.for the vis.alization of the appendix was.performed on paediatric patients.ranging from 5 to 18 *** were collected from the two community hos.itals.of Toronto by us.ng hos.ital electronic medical record for the ultras.und findings.in patients.pres.nted with abdominal ***:Data from two community hos.itals.indicated vis.alization rate of the appendix as.11.0%and 23.2%for s.te 1 and s.te 2 *** cas.s.where the ultras.und was.repeated the vis.alization rate remains.the s.me.A two-proportion z-tes. was.performed to find whether the vis.alization of appendix increas.s.the likelihood of diagnos.ng *** res.lts.revealed that the vis.alization of an appendix(P=0.52),s.gnificantly improved the diagnos.s.of appendicitis.z=34,Ps.ON:Vis.alization of an appendix on ultras.und increas.s.the likelihood of correctly diagnos.ng *** our s.udy,we found low vis.alization rate of appendix on ultras.und that could be the res.lt of many factors.that contribute towards.the low vis.alization rate of an appendix on ***,the challenges.in identifying appendix s.ould be minimized to improve the vis.alization and diagnos.s.of appendicitis.on ultras.und.

The direct determination of toxic metal ions. in environmental s.mples. is.difficult becaus. of the latter＇s.pres.nce in trace concentration in as.ociation with complex matrices. thereby leading to ins.fficient s.ns.tivity and s.lectivity of the methods.us.d. The s.multaneous.removal of the matrix and preconcentration of the metal ions. through s.lid phas. extraction,s.rves.as.the promis.ng s.lution. The mechanis. involved in s.lid phas. extraction（s.E）depends.on the nature of the s.rbent and analyte. Thus. s.E is.carried out by means.of ads.rption, ion exchange, chelation, ion pair formation, and s. forth. As.polymeric s.pports. the commercially available Amberlite res.ns.have been found very promis.ng for des.gning chelating matrices.due to its.good phys.cal and chemical properties.s.ch as.poros.ty, high s.rface area,durability and purity. This.review pres.nts.an overview of the various.works.done on the modification of Amberlite XAD res.ns.with the objective of making it an efficient s.rbent. The methods.of modifications.which are generally bas.d on s.mple impregnation, s.rption as.chelates.and chemical bonding have been dis.us.ed. The reported res.lts. including the preconcentration limit, the detection limit, s.rption capacity, preconcentration factors.etc., have been reproduced.
