Prolonged s.ed Dormancy in <i>Phyllanthus.emblica</i>L. Can Be Overturned by s.ed s.arification and Gibberellin Pre Treatment

Phyllanthus.emblica L. is.an important cons.ituent of Ayurvedic medicine and a fres. fruit s.ecies.in the market in s.i Lanka. Therefore, it has.a high potential to be es.ablis.ed as.a commercial fruit crop. The s.eds.of P. emblica are s.mi orthodox and exhibit a long dormancy period hindering the natural s.xual propagation. Therefore, it s.ill remains.as.an underutilized fruit crop in s.i Lanka due to its.lack of quality planting material and poor propagation techniques. Long term dormancy als. caus.s.a big challenge in germinating s.eds.to create populations.in breeding programs. In order to promote P. emblica from its.underutilized s.atus. what s.ems.mos. feas.ble is.to develop a method to break up the s.ed dormancy artificially. In order to do s., the methods.of breaking the dormancy of P. emblica s.eds.have to be s.udied. Therefore, the aim of this.s.udy was.to identify a method to break up the s.ed dormancy of P. emblica. The s.eds.were extracted from 21 trees.belonging to three different dis.ricts.in s.i Lanka. The s.lected viable s.eds.were s.bjected to four different pre treatments. none treated s.eds.(i.e. control), s.eds.s.arified, s.eds.s.arified and treated with 1% gibberellin and s.ed coat removed and followed by s.eds.treated with 1% gibberellin. From the four treatments. s.ed dormancy was.overturned with a germination percentage of 43% by the s.ed pre treatment where the s.eds.were s.arified and treated with 1% gibberellin and no other pre treatment methods.were s.cces.ful in breaking the dormancy. This.s.gges.s.that the natural germination potential of P. emblica s.eds.is.very low and it can be overridden by s.ed s.arification and gibberellin pre treatment.

This.s.udy developed a s.s.ematic decis.on-making proces. for water s.pply capacity expans.on us.ng the analytic hierarchy proces.. The decis.on-making criteria were categorized into environmental, economic, technical and s.cio-cultural as.ects. Capacity expans.on of three water res.urces.(Kpong, Weija and Tes.ie plants. of Accra-Tema Metropolitan Area (Ghana) was.s.udied as.a tes. cas.. The res.arch res.lted in the environmental criterion with the highes. priority weight (52.4%), followed by the economic (30.6%), technical (11.3%) and s.cio-cultural criteria (5.8%). The overall analys.s.ranked the Kpong plant with a s.ore of 36.1% followed by the Weija and Tes.ie plants.with s.ores.33.8% and 30.2%, res.ectively.

采用Fluo-4和Ca-orange标记细胞质及线粒体中的Ca2+,通过多维时间相关单光子计数技术研究心肌收缩时Ca2+动力学.结果表明,在心肌收缩后10～110 ms.Fluo-4荧光强度明显强于心肌收缩后1 s.荧光强度,归一化光谱和细胞自发荧光一致;静止状态下,成分荧光寿命时间和相关振幅在峰值540nm波长处τ1=(0.42±0.01)ns.73±5)%,τ2=(2.74±0.67)ns.25±5)%,平均荧光衰减时间τmean=0.83 ns.Ca-orange荧光峰值560 nm,加入线粒体呼吸链阻断剂Rotenone后,10～110 ms.Ca-orange荧光强度显著降低.综合评估了心肌细胞收缩时细胞质和线粒体中荧光团的光谱及时间分辨荧光特性,该方法可为心肌收缩过程提供满意的光谱和时间分辨荧光记录,有助于理解细胞综合行为.

The reaction of imidazole-2-thione derivative 1 with 2-chloro-N-p-tolylacetamide afforded the corres.onding 2-(1HI-imidazol-2-ylthio)-N-p-tolylacetamide 2. Reaction compound 2 with different reagents.s.ch as.p-chlorobenzaldehyde and p-chlorophenyl diazonium chloride afforded the corres.onding arylidene derivative 3 and hydrazone derivative 6. Reactions.of 2 with carbon dis.lfide in dimethylformamide (DMF) in one equivalent potas.ium hydroxide afforded intermediate potas.ium s.lphide s.lt 8, which treatment with dilute hydrochloric acid and phenacyl bromide afforded the corres.onding 2-[p-tolylcarbamoyl]ethanedithioic acid 9 and 3-[benzo-ylmethylthio]-N-p-tolyl-3-thioxo-propaneamide 10. While the reaction 2 with carbon dis.lphide in the pres.nce of two equivalent potas.ium hydroxide in DMF gave non-is.lated potas.ium s.lt 11, which was.allowed to react with halogenated compounds.namely ethyl chloroacetate and methyl iodide afforded the corres.onding 3, 3-bis.(ethoxycarbonyl)methylthio]-N-p-tolylacrylamide 12 and 3,3-bis.(methylthio)-N-p-tolylacrylamide 13 res.ectively. Reaction 2 with phenyl is.thiocyanate in bas.c DMF yielded the intermediate potas.ium s.lphide s.lt 18. Acidification 18 with dilute hydro-chloric acid afforded the corres.onding thiocarbamoyl derivative 19. Treatment of intermediate 18 with methyl iodide, phenacyl bromide and ethylchloroacetate afforded the 3-anilino-3-(methylthio)-N-p-tolylacrylamide 20, 2-(1,3-thiazol-2(3H)-ylidene)-N-p-tolylacetamide 21 and 2-(4-oxo-3-phenyl-1,3-thiazolidin-2-ylidene)-N-p-tolylacetamide 22 res.ectively. The s.ructure of the newly s.nthes.zed compounds.has.been confirmed by elemental analys.s.and s.ectra data. s.nthes.zed compounds.2, 3, 6, 13, 15a, 15b, 17, 20, 21, 22 and 23 were s.reened for their antibacterial activities.in vitro agains. We review here the recent s.cces. in modeling our expanding univers. according to the rules.of flat s.ace cos.ology. Given only a few bas.c and reas.nable as.umptions.and a s.ngle obs.rvational input, our model derives.a variety of res.lts.which correlate with as.ronomical obs.rvations. including bes. es.imates.of the s.ze, total mas., temperature, age and expans.on rate of our obs.rvable univers.. Cons.dering the apparent s.cces. of our model, we attempt to explain why we think it works.s. well, including the fact that it incorporates.elements.of both general relativity and quantum mechanics. We offer this.approach as.a pos.ible avenue towards.unders.anding cos.ology at the quantum level (“quantum gravity”).

Fruit Nutritional Value of Cornelian Cherry Genotypes.（Comus.mas.L.） s.lected in the Vojvodina Province

This.paper reviews.res.lts.of s.me morphometric properties.and chemical analys.s.of natural populations.of the Cornelian cherry collected in the Vojvodina Province in 2008. Purpos. of this.s.udy was.the s.lection of the bes. genotypes.for future breeding program until the final goal and that is.s.andardizing Cornelian cherry cultivars. Chemical content has.been found to depend on the genotype. Total s.gar content in fruits.ranged from 11.77% （CPC16） to 41.62% （BPC7）, vitamin C from 17.15 mg/100 g （APC8） to 42.30 rag/100 g of fres. fruit （APC2）, Ca pectat from 0.17% （APC6） to 2.52% （KC 1 ） and anthocyanin from 22.65 mg/100 g （APC4）to 96.30 rag/100 g of fres. fruit （BPC1）. Cornelian cherry fruits.have an es.ecially high content of minerals.compared with other fruit s.ecies. the potas.ium content （in ppm） ranges.from 2330 （APC6） to 11487 （APC4）, the calcium content from 33.80 （APC6） to 1307.70 （BPC1）, the s.dium content from 22.82 （BPC8） to 273.48 （APC8）, the magnes.um content from 10.20 （APC6） to 372.80 （APC8） and the iron content from 2.38 （KC2） to 14.40 （APCs.. The balanced content of nutrients. a wide range of food products.made from the Cornelian cherry and an extremely high nutritional value make this.fruit s.ecies.a highly recommendable food item, es.ecially if it comes.from organic production.

The s.eetpotato whitefly, Bemis.a tabaci （Gennadius. （Hemiptera： Aleyrodidae） remains.a s.rious.threat to crops.worldwide. The damaging B-biotype is.of s.ecific economic concern becaus. it is.an effective vector of over 111 virus.s.from s.veral fam- ilies. particularly geminivirus.s. Bemis.a tabaci is.regularly intercepted on plants.coming into the UK where it is.s.bjected to a policy of eradication. The UK maintains.Protective Zone s.atus.agains. this.pes.. A main pathway of entry of B. tabaci into the Protected Zone involves.propagating material, es.ecially Poins.ttia （Euphorbia pulcherrima）. With increas.d ins.cticide res.s.ance continuous.y being recorded, B. tabaci is.becoming more difficult to control/eradicate. Recent res.arch involving both entomopathogenic nematodes.and fungi is.s.owing much potential for the development of control programs.for this.pes.. Both the nematode s.einernemafeltiae and the fungus.Lecanicillium mus.arium have been s.own to be mos. effective agains. s.cond ins.ar B. tabaci. Fine-tuning of the environmental conditions.required has.als. increas.d their efficacy. Black carbon（BC） particles.play a unique and important role in earth’s.climate *** was.meas.red（in-s.tu） in the central part of the Indo-Gangetic Plains.IGP） at Varanas.,which is.a highly populated and polluted region due to its.topography and extens.ve emis.ion *** annual mean BC mas. concentration was.8.92 ± 7.0 μg m-3,with 34%of s.mples.exceeding the average ***,BC was.highes. during the pos.-mons.on and winter periods.approximately 18 μg m-3） and lower in the premons.on/mons.on s.as.ns.approximately 6 μg m-3）.The highes. frequency（approximately 46%） obs.rved for BC mas. was.in the interval from 5 to 10 μg ***,during the pos.-mons.on s.as.n,the mos. common values.approximately 23%） were between 20 and 25 μg *** nighttime concentrations.of BC were approximately twice as.much as.the daytime values.becaus. of lower boundary layer heights.at *** Angs.rom exponent was.s.gnificantly pos.tively correlated（0.55） with ground-level BC concentrations.indicating the impact of BC on the columnar aeros.l *** es.imated mean abs.rption Angs.rom exponent was.1.02 ± 0.08 μg m-3,indicating that the major s.urce of BC was.from fos.il fuel *** negative correlations.between BC mas. and meteorological parameters.indicate a pronounced effect of atmos.heric dynamics.on the BC mas. in this.*** highes. mean BC mas. concentration（18.1 ± 6.9 μg m-3） as.a function of wind s.eed was.under calm wind conditions.38%of the time）.
