Comprehensive studies on dielectric properties of p-methoxy benzylidene p-decyl aniline with function of temperature and frequency in planar geometry: A potential nematic liquid crystal for display devices

The dielectric properties of the nematic mesophase, p-methoxy benzylidene p-decyl aniline(MBDA), measured in planar geometry with a function of frequency and temperature are investigated in detail. The complex dielectric permittivity(ε' and ε'') is also studied at a bias voltage of 10 V for planar aligned sample cell of nematic mesophase. The dielectric permittivity with bias voltage attains a higher(> 2 times) value than that without bias voltage at a temperature of 56℃,which is due to the fact that the linking group of nematic molecules is internally interacted with an applied bias *** is supported by observing an enhanced dielectric permittivity of nematic liquid crystal(LC) in the presence of bias voltage, which can be fully explained as the increasing of the corresponding dipole moment. The dielectric relaxation behaviors of nematic LC are also demonstrated for planar aligned sample cell. The remarkable results are observed that the relaxation frequency shifts into low frequency region with the increase of the bias voltage applied to the planar aligned sample cells. The dielectric relaxation spectra are fitted by Cole–Cole nonlinear curve fitting for nematic mesophase in order to determine the dielectric strength.

Polygon clipping is of great importance in computer *** of the popular algorithms to clip a polygon is Cohan–sutherland Hodgeman algorithm which is based on line ***–sutherland Hodgeman algorithm clips the polygon against the given rectangular clip window with the help of line clipping ***–sutherland algorithm requires traversing the polygon in anti clockwise direction(positive orientation).In this work we propose an efficient polygon clipping algorithm against a rectangular clip *** algorithm uses parametric representation of polygon *** the concept of point clipping,we can find required intersection points of edges of polygon with clip window *** suited numerical illustrations are used to explain the proposed polygon clipping *** proposed algorithm is computationally less expensive and comprehensive.

Rate-dependent mechanical behavior of jointed rock with an impersistent joint under different infill conditions

Transition in the rate-dependent mechanical response of rock was investigated due to the presence of impersistent joint with different infill *** types of samples,***,jointed with no grouting,jointed and grouted with cement,and jointed and grouted with epoxy,were fabricated using model material.A series of dynamic split Hopkinson pressure bar(sHPB) tests was conducted on prepared samples with strain rates varying between 53-130 salong with static uniaxial compression tests(10s).Progression of fracture/failure along samples was monitored using high-speed imaging and digital image correlation(DIC).strength was observed to be significantly lower for jointed samples as compared to intact ***,the increasing trend of strength with strain rates remained similar for all types of *** was observed to be a better grout due to greater improvement in the strength of epoxy grouted jointed samples than cement grouted samples under both static and dynamic *** changes were observed in fracture behavior(initiation,pattern and mechanism)with strain rate for intact and jointed unfilled/grouted *** was dominated by shear and tensile cracks at high strain rates compared to tensile cracks at low strain rates in all *** static loading conditions,the location of cracks initiation shifts away from joint tips with increasing strain rate and depending upon existing infill conditions(unfilled/grouted).

The fabrication and characterization of the first magnetoelectric sensors utilizing arrays of Janus magnetoelectric composite nanowires composed of barium titanate and cobalt ferrite are *** utilizing magnetoelectric nanowires suspended across electrodes above the substrate,substrate clamping is reduced when compared to layered thin-film architectures;this results in enhanced magnetoelectric *** magnetoelectric nanowires are fabricated by sol–gel electrospinning,and their length is controlled through the electrospinning and calcination *** a directed nanomanufacturing approach,the nanowires are then assembled onto pre-patterned metal electrodes on a silicon substrate using *** this process,functional magnetic field sensors are formed by connecting many nanowires in *** observed magnetic field sensitivity from the parallel array of nanowires is 0.514±.027mV Oe^(−1) at 1 kHz,which translates to a magnetoelectric coefficient of 514±27mV cm^(−1) Oe^(−1).

Effect of Indian Medium Coking Coal on Coke Quality in Non-recovery stamp Charged Coke Oven

The maximum possibility of utilizing the Indian coking coals and inferior grade coking coal for producing metallurgical coke through non-recovery stamp charging tech_nology was investigated. Indian indigenous coals contained low percent of vitrinite （〈50%） and higher content of ash （〉15%） compared to imported coking coal. Therefore, the selection of appropriate proportion of different types of coals was a major challenge for coke makers. Coal blend selection criterion based on a single coefficient, named as composite coking potential （CCP）, was developed. The use of increased proportion of semi-soft coal （crucible swelling number of 2.5） and high ash （≥15%） indigenous coal in the range of 20%- 35% and 20%-65% respectively in the blends resulted in good quality of coke. Plant data of a non recovery coke oven were used for developing and validating the model. The results showed that the coke strength after reaction （CsR） varied in the range of 63.7%-67.7% and the M40 value was between 81.8 and 89.3 in both the cases.

Coordination of dual setting overcurrent relays in microgrid with optimally determined relay characteristics for dual operating modes

Fault current magnitude in a microgrid depends upon its mode of operation,namely,grid-connected mode or islanded *** on the type of fault in a given mode,separate protection schemes are generally *** the change in microgrid operating mode,the protection scheme needs to be modified which is uneconomical and time *** this paper,a novel optimal protection coordination scheme is proposed,one which enables a common optimal relay setting which is valid in both operating modes of the *** this con-text,a common optimal protection scheme is introduced for dual setting directional overcurrent relays(DOCRs)using a combination of various standard relay *** with the two variables,i.e.,time multiplier setting(TMs)and plug setting(Ps)for conventional directional overcurrent relay,dual setting DOCRs are augmented with a third variable of relay characteristics identifier(RCI),which is responsible for selecting optimal relay characteristics from the standard relay characteristics according to the IEC-60255 *** relay coordination problem is formulated as a mixed-integer nonlinear programming(MINLP)problem,and the settings of relays are optimally determined using the genetic algorithm(GA)and the grey wolf optimization(GWO)*** validate the superiority of the pro-posed protection scheme,the distribution parts of the IEEE-14 and IEEE-30 bus benchmark systems are considered.

In performing a gaming task,mental rotation(MR)is one of the important aspects of visuospatial *** involves dorsal-ventral pathways of the *** objects/models used in computer-games play a crucial role in gaming experience of the *** visuospatial characteristics of the objects used in the computer-game influence the engagement of dorsal-ventral visual *** current study investigates how the objects’visuospatial characteristics(i.e.,angular disparity and dimensionality)in an MR-based computer-game influence the cortical activities in dorsalventral visual *** the factors have two levels,angular disparity:convex angle(CA)*** angle(RA)and dimensionality:2D *** healthy adults,aged,18-29 years(M=21.6)were recruited for the study and randomly assigned to four gaming conditions i.e.,15 participants in each *** multichannel electroencephalogram(EEG)data were recorded from 60 healthy adults while playing the *** source reconstruction was done for∼3000 sources inside the brain using the Dynamic Imaging of Coherent sources(DICs)beamforming method forθ1(4-5.75),θ2(5.75-7.5),α1(7.5-9),α2(9-11),α3(11-13),β1(13-17.25),β2(17.25-21.5)Hz frequency *** reconstructed neuronal sources were segmented into 68 functionally parcellated brain regions,and the percentage of active sources for each region was ***,the differences across the 68 regions among the four gaming conditions were evaluated using the percentage of active *** differences in activation for the dorsal-ventral pathways and some additional brain regions were observed among the four *** game with 2D objects and CA showed higher activation than that with 3D objects and RA,*** dorsal pathway was found to be more active in contrast to the ventral *** findings suggest that angular disparity and dimensionality in MR influence the engagement of dorsal-ventral visual pathways in such a way that angular disparit
