Magneto convective Flow of a Non-Newtonian Fluid through Non-Homogeneous Porous Medium past a Vertical Porous Plate with Variable suction

Radiation absorption and chemical reaction effects on unsteady MHD free convective flow of a viscoelastic fluid past a vertical porous plate in the presence of variable suction and heat source is considered. A uniform magnetic field is assumed to be applied in the transverse direction of the flow. The set of non-linear partial differential equations is transformed into a set of ordinary differential equations by super imposing a solution with steady and unsteady part. The set of ordinary differential equations is solved by using regular perturbation scheme. The expressions for velocity, temperature and species concentration fields are obtained and the expressions for skin friction, Nusselt number and sherwood number are also derived. The effects of numerous physical parameters on the above flow quantities are studied with the help of graphs and tables.

Effect of organo-modified montmorillonite nanoclay on mechanical,thermal and ablation behavior of carbon fiber/phenolic resin composites

The mechanical,thermal and ablation properties of carbon phenolic(c-Ph)composites(Type-I)reinforced with different weight percentages of organo-modified montmorillonite(o-MMT)nanoclay have been studied *** milling was used to disperse different weight(wt)percentages(0,1,2,4,6 wt.%)of nanoclay into phenolic *** changes to resin due to nanoclay was *** the other hand,nanoclay added phenolic matrix composites(Type-II)were prepared to study the dispersion of nanoclay in phenolic matrix by small angle X-ray scattering and thermal stability changes to the matrix by thermogravimetric analyser(TGA).This data was used to understand the mechanical,thermal and ablation properties of Type-I *** laminar shear strength(ILss),flexural strength and flexural modulus of Type I composites increased by about 29%,12%and 7%respectively at2 wt.%addition of nanoclay beyond which these properties *** was attributed to reduced fiber volume fraction(%Vf)of Type-I composites due to nanoclay addition at such high *** ablation rate of Type-I composites was evaluated using oxy acetylene torch test at low heat flux(125 W/cm^(2))and high heat flux levels(500 W/cm^(2)).Mass ablation rates have increased at both flux levels marginally up to 2 wt.%addition of nanoclay beyond which it has increased *** is in contrast to increased thermal stability observed for Type-I and Type-II composites up to 2 wt.%addition of *** ablation rates due to nanoclay addition was attributed to higher insulation efficiency of nanolcay,which accumulates more heat energy in limited area behind the ablation front and self-propagating ablation mechanisms triggered by thermal decomposition of organic part of nanoclay.

Impact of Iron Ore Tailing on Foraminifera of the Uppateru River Estuary, East coast of India

Benthic foraminiferal assemblages have been used to determine the effects of Iran ore tailing pollution on the marine environment. The present paper attempts to unveil pollution impact as responded by foraminiferal species of Uppateru estuary. The faunal data thus generated is compared with earlier data sets for possible adverse effects. There has been substantial reduction in total foraminiferal number (TFN), from 574 in 2006 to 213 in 2008 species (***.3) per10 gram sediment. Even the total species number (TsN) decreased from 27 in (***.8) 2006 to 8 (***.1) in 2008. Ammonia accounted for its share (68%), followed by Elphidium (7.4%) and Quinqueloculina (6.5%). These genera are considered to be robust and opportunistic type in the study area. This faunal variation in terms of density (TFN) may be owing to the pollution caused by iron ore tailing. This study also supports the view that benthic foraminiferal biota can be used as a tool to monitor marine pollution in general and estuarine environment in specific.

Low Temperature Electrical Transport in Double Layered cMR Manganite La1.2sr1.4Ba0.4Mn2O7

The electrical transport behavior and magnetoresistance (MR) of a polycrystalline double layered manganite La1.2sr1.4Ba0.4Mn2O7, synthesized by the sol-gel method, are investigated in the temperature range 4.2 K - 300 K. The sample exhibits an insulator-to-metal transition at 87 K (TIM) and the spin-glass (sG)-like behavior is observed below 50 K (TsG). The transport behavior is analyzed in the entire temperature range considering three different regions: paramagnetic insulating region (T>TIM), ferromagnetic metallic region (TsG IM) and antiferromagnetic insulating region (TsG) by fitting the temperature dependent resistivity data to the equations governing the conduction process in the respective temperature regions. The results show that the conduction at T>TIM follows Mott variable range hopping (VRH) process, while the two-magnon scattering process is evidenced at TsG IM which is suppressed with the applied magnetic field of 4 T. The low temperature conductivity data are also fitted with Mott VRH equation. The sample exhibits a large MR (≈45%) over a temperature range???? 5 K – 50 K and it shows ≈32% MR at 5 K with a magnetic field of 0.5 T.

spectroscopic and fluorescence properties of Nd 3＋ ions in sodium fluoroborate（sFB） glasses were prepared and characterized through optical absorption,emission and decay *** energy level analysis was carried out using free-ion Hamiltonian *** oscillator strengths were determined by measuring the area encompassed by the absorption peaks recorded for 1.0 mol.% Nd 3＋-doped *** Judd-Ofelt parameters（2,4,6） were used to evaluate the laser characteristic parameters such as radiative transition probability（A R）,radiative decay time（τ R）,fluorescence branching ratio（β R） and stimulated emission cross-section（σ e） for the 4 F 3/2 metastable *** fluorescence spectra for different concentrations of Nd 3＋ ions were recorded by exciting the samples at 514.5 nm Ar ＋ ion laser.

Targeted light delivery into biological tissue is needed in applications such as optogenetic stimulation of the brain and in vivo functional or structural imaging of *** applications require very compact,soft,and flexible implants that minimize damage to the ***,we demonstrate a novel implantable photonic platform based on a high-density,flexible array of ultracompact(30μm×5μm),low-loss(3.2dB/cm at λ=680 nm,4.1 dB/cm at λ=633 nm,4.9 dB/cm at λ=532 nm,6.1 dB/cm at λ=450 nm)optical waveguides composed of biocompatible polymers Parylene c and polydimethylsiloxane(PDMs).This photonic platform features unique embedded input/output micromirrors that redirect light from the waveguides perpendicularly to the surface of the array for localized,patterned illumination in *** architecture enables the design of a fully flexible,compact integrated photonic system for applications such as in vivo chronic optogenetic stimulation of brain activity.

Effect of Diffuser Vane shape on the Performance of a centrifugal compressor stage

The present paper reports the results of experimental investigations on the effect of diffuser vane shape on the performance of a centrifugal compressor stage. These studies were conducted on the chosen stage having a back- ward curved impeller of 500 turn tip diameter and 24.5 mm width and its design flow coefficient is Фd=0.0535. Three different low solidity diffuser vane shapes namely uncarnbered aerofoil, constant thickness flat plate and circular arc cambered constant thickness plate were chosen as the variants for diffuser vane shape and all the three shapes have the same thickness to chord ratio （t/c=0.1）. Flow coefficient, polytropic efficiency, total head coeffi- cient, power coefficient and static pressure recovery coefficient were chosen as the parameters for evaluating the effect of diffuser vane shape on the stage performance. The results show that there is reasonable improvement in stage efficiency and total head coefficient with the use of the chosen diffuser vane shapes as compared to conven- tional vaneless diffuser. It is also noticed that the aero foil shaped LsD has shown better performance when com- pared to flat plate and circular arc profiles. The aerofoil vane shape of the diffuser blade is seen to be tolerant over a considerable range of incidence.

DNA-encoded morphological evolution of bimetallic Pd@Au core-shell nanoparticles from a high-indexed core

DNA-mediated synthesis of nanopartides is a powerful method to access exclusive shapes and surface properties. Previous studies employed seeds containing low-energy facets, such as a simple cubic palladium seed, in the synthesis of Pd-Au bimetallic nanoparticles; however, few studies have investigated whether DNA molecules are influential when a seed containing high-energy facets is used. seeds enclosed by high-energy facets act as facile nucleation sites in nanopartide growth and could suppress the effect of DNA. We report the DNA-encoded control of the morphological evolution of bimetallic Pd@Au core-shell nanoparticles from a concave palladium nanocube seed containing high-indexed facets. Based on detailed spectroscopic and microscopic studies of time-dependent growth of bimetallic nanoparticles, we found that the DNA molecules containing 10 repeating units of thymine, guanine, cytosine, or adenine （referred to as T10, G10, c10, and A10, respectively） show a unique interaction with the surface of the seed and the precursor. The most important factor is the binding affinity of the nucleobase to the Pd surface; A10 shows the highest binding affinity and can stabilize the high energy surfaces of the seed. Initially, the growth of bases with lower binding affiru＇ties （T10, G10, and c10） is completely dictated by the seed＇s surface energy, but later growth can be influenced by different DNA sequences, providing four Pd@Au bimetallic nanopartides with unique morphologies. The effect of these DNA molecules with medium or low binding affinities can only be observed when more Au is deposited. We propose a scheme for DNA-controlled growth. These results provide insights into the factors governing the DNA-mediated growth of core-shell structures using seeds with high-energy sites, and the insights can be readily applied to other bimetallic systems.

Electrical transport and current properties of rare-earth dysprosium schottky electrode on p-type GaN at various annealing temperatures

The electrical and current transport properties of rapidly annealed Dy/p-GaN sBD are probed by I-V and c-V techniques. The estimated barrier heights（BH） of as-deposited and 200 ℃ annealed sBDs are 0.80 eV（I-V）/0.93 eV（c-V） and 0.87 eV（I-V）/1.03 eV（c-V）. However, the BH rises to 0.99 eV（I-V）/1.18 eV（c-V）and then slightly deceases to 0.92 eV（I-V）/1.03 eV（c-V） after annealing at 300 ℃ and 400 ℃. The utmost BH is attained after annealing at 300 ℃ and thus the optimum annealing for sBD is 300 ℃. By applying cheung＇s functions, the series resistance of the sBD is estimated. The BHs estimated by I-V, cheung＇s and Ψs-V plot are closely matched; hence the techniques used here are consistency and validity. The interface state density of the as-deposited and annealed contacts are calculated and we found that the Nss decreases up to 300 ℃ annealing and then slightly increases after annealing at 400 ℃. Analysis indicates that ohmic and space charge limited conduction mechanisms are found at low and higher voltages in forward-bias irrespective of annealing temperatures. Our experimental results demonstrate that the Poole-Frenkel emission is leading under the reverse bias of Dy/p-GaN sBD at all annealing temperatures.
