Epirubicin-gold nanoparticles suppress hepatocellular carcinoma xenograft growth in nude mice

We sought to investigate the effects of epirubicin-nanogold compounds （EPI-AuNP） on hepatocellular carcinoma xenograft growth in nude mice. EPI-AuNP was prepared and hepatoma xenograft model was established in nude mice. The mice were then randomly divided into four groups： the control group with injection of saline, the AuNP treatment group, the EPI treatment group and the EPI-AuNP treatment group. After two weeks, the hepatoma weight and volume of the xenografts were assessed. Our transmission electron microscopy revealed that epirubicin- gold nanoparticles caused significantly more structural changes of hepatocellular carcinoma cells HepG2. The tumor weight in the Epi-AuNP treatment group （0.80 ± 0.11 g） was significantly lower than that of the control group （2.48±0.15 g）, the AuNP treatment group （1.67±0.17 g）, and the EPI treatment group （1.39±0.10 g）（P〈0.01）. Furthermore, the tumor volume of mice in the EPI-AuNP treatment group （0.27 ± 0.06 cm3） was significantly smal- ler than that of the control group （2.23 ± 0.34 cm3）, the AuNP treatment group （1.21 ± 0.25 cm3） and the EPI treat- ment group （0.81 ± 0.11 cm3）（P〈0.01）. In conclusion, epirubicin-nanogold compounds （EPI-AuNP） have significant inhibitory effects on the growth of hepatocellular carcinoma cells in vivo.

Pancreatic cancer is one of the deadliest cancers with a very poor prognosis. Recently, there has been a significant increase in research directed towards identifying potential biomarkers that can be used to diagnose and provide prognostic information for pancreatic cancer. These markers can be used clinically to optimize and personalize therapy for individual patients. In this review, we focused on 3 biomarkers involved in the DNA damage response pathway and the necroptosis pathway: Chromodomainhelicase-DNA binding protein 5, chromodomain-helicaseDNA binding protein 7, and mixed lineage kinase domain-like protein. The aim of this article is to review present literature provided for these biomarkers and current studies in which their effectiveness as prognostic biomarkers are analyzed in order to determine their future use as biomarkers in clinical medicine. Based on the data presented, these biomarkers warrant further investigation,and should be validated in future studies.

Hypoxia is a common phenomenon in solid tumors as the poorly organized tumor vasculature cannot fulfill the increasing oxygen demand of rapidly expanding *** hypoxia,tumor cells reshape their microenvironment to sustain survival,promote metastasis,and develop resistance to *** are extracellular vesicles secreted by most eukaryotic cells,including tumor *** are enriched with a selective collection of nucleic acids and proteins from the originating cells to mediate cell-to-cell *** evidence suggests that exosomes derived from tumor cells play critical roles in modulating the tumor microenvironment(TME).Hypoxia is known to stimulate the secretion of exosomes from tumor cells,thereby promoting intercellular communication of hypoxic tumors with the surrounding stromal ***-mediated signaling pathways under hypoxic conditions have been reported to cause angiogenesis,invasion,metastasis,drug resistance,and immune ***,the programmed cell death ligand-1(PD-L1)has been reported to reside as a transmembrane protein in tumor *** PD-L1 was shown to suppress T cell effector function in the TME and cause drug resistance to immune checkpoint *** review provides an update about the pivotal role of tumor-derived exosomes in drug resistance to chemotherapy and immunotherapy,particularly under hypoxic *** strategies that target the exosomes in the hypoxic TME to enhance the antitumor efficacy are discussed.

The Furniture and Furnishings(Fire safety)Regulations 1988 is the major driver for the use of chemical flame retardants(FRs)in soft furnishings marketed in the *** these regulations specify the level of flame retardancy required,they do not specify how such levels should be ***,it remains unclear which FRs are present in UK soft *** is important not only to help assess what FRs we may be exposed to currently,but which FRs are currently entering the waste stream with concomitant potential for release into the *** address this data gap,concentrations of polybrominated diphenyl ethers(PBDEs),hexabromocyclododecane(HBCDD)and a range of chlorinated organophosphate flame retardants(OPFRs)were measured in samples of domestic and office waste soft furnishings products entering the UK waste stream in 2011 and *** preliminary study measured the FR content of:carpets(n?4),curtains(n?7),mattress fabrics(n?2),furniture foam(n?9),and furniture upholstery textiles(n?10).Polybrominated diphenyl ethers(PBDEs)and hexabromocyclododecane(HBCDD)were not found at significant concentrations(below detection limits in most samples)in any of the twenty two analysed *** contrast,7 of the 9 furniture foam samples were treated with tris(2-chloroisopropyl)phosphate(TCIPP)at a mean concentration of 1.9%w/w,with another single foam sample containing tris(1,3-dichloroisopropyl)phosphate(TDCIPP)and tris(2-chloroethyl)phosphate(TCEP)at 1.1 and 0.5%*** comparison,PBDE concentrations are within the range reported previously for UK indoor dust[18],rather than the percent by weight levels required to impart flame retardancy.

Dear Editor,We have read with great interest the outstanding article authored by Amparore et al.[1].We commend the authors for their large interventional study of 222 patients observing a favorable impact on clinical outcomes after implementation of three-dimensional(3D)modeling for laparoscopic partial nephrectomy robotically assisted or not,compared to a historical group of *** authors presented convincing results and humbly acknowledge limitations of the study,notably its *** results extend growing awareness in urology that 3D modeling can enhance surgeons’case planning[2].

Percutaneous aspiration and drainage of post-operative abdominal fluid collections is a well established standard technique. However,some fluid collections are not amenable to percutaneous drainage either due to location or the presence of surrounding visceral structures. Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUs) has been widely used for the drainage of pancreatitis-related abdominal fluid collections. However,there are no reports on the use of this technique in the post-operative setting. We report a case where the EUs-guided technique was used to drain a percutaneously inaccessible post-operative collection which had developed after Whipple's resection.
