Aim: To determine the predictive value of the hypo-osmotic swelling (HOs) test to identify viable, non-motile sperm. Methods: semen samples from 20 men with severe asthenozoospermia underwent traditional seminal analysis, eosin-nigrosin (EN) staining and the HOs test. A further EN stain was then performed on a HOs pre-treated aliquot and a total of 2000 further sperm examined. Results: The median sperm density was 5.1 million/mL (IQR 4.3-13.1) and the median motility was 3.0 % (IQR 0-7). seven samples showed complete asthenozoospermia. Initial EN staining showed 59 % viability (range 48-69) despite the poor standard parameters and 47 % (range 33-61) in the complete asthenozoospermia subgroup. The HOs test showed 49.9 % reacted overall (range 40-59) and 41.7 % (range 22-61) in the complete asthenozoospermia subgroup. The combined HOs/EN stain showed the positive predictive value of the HOs test to identify viable sperm was 84.2 % overall and 79.7 % in the complete asthenozoospermia subgroup. Conclusion: The HOs test can effectively predict sperm viability in patients with severe and complete asthenozoospermia.

AIM: To develop a model to evaluate the cost-utility of choroidal nevi monitoring recommendations with varying clinical risk ***: A Markov model was created to evaluate the cost-utility in cost per quality-adjusted life-year($/QALY) for monitoring patients with choroidal nevus. This probabilistic model was applied both to a hypothetically monitored and unmonitored group of patients beginning at different ages and with varying clinical risk factors of the nevus. Duration of screening was modeled for the remainder of the patients’ life expectancy. Best available clinical data on the prevalence and incidence of choroidal nevi/melanoma, and relative risk of nevus transformation were combined with the initial and downstream costs of screening, downstream costs of melanoma-related mortality, and QALY saved by monitoring, to estimate the best monitoring regimen. Main outcome measures were average $/QALY saved by consensus recommended monitoring scenarios for the duration of a patient’s remaining life expectancy in comparison with no follow-up, and the cost-utility of modified regimens. REsULTs: The $/QALY of the recommended monitoring scenarios varied substantially based on nevus clinical risk factors, patient age, frequency of follow-up, and objective testing utilized. The $/QALY for the recommended monitoring scenario of a flat nevus without risk factors in a 60-yearold patient was $77 180. The $/QALY for monitoring a nevus with 3 clinical risk factors in a 60-year-old patient was $85 393. The $/QALY values for differently-aged patients were larger, and intermediate degrees of risk factors for nevus growth varied, depending largely upon the specifics of the modeled monitoring ***: The average $/QALY of currently recommended monitoring scenarios fall within economically acceptable standards and could provide insight for formulating appropriate clinical strategies. Background: The main objective of this study was to examine the climatic sensitivity of the radial growth response of 13 eastern white pine(Pinus strobus L.) provenances planted at seven test sites throughout the northern part of the species’ native distribution in eastern North ***: The test sites(i.e., Wabeno, Wisconsin, UsA; Manistique, Michigan, UsA; Pine River, Michigan, UsA; Newaygo,Michigan, UsA; Turkey Point, Ontario, Canada; Ganaraska, Ontario, Canada; and Orono, Maine, UsA) examined in this study were part of a range-wide white pine provenance trial established in the early 1960 s in the eastern United states and Canada. Principal components analysis(PCA) was used to examine the main modes of variation [first(PC1) and second(PC2) principal component axes] in the standardized radial growth indices of the provenances at each test *** year scores for PC1 and PC2 were examined in relation to an array of test site climate variables using multiple regression analysis to examine the commonality of growth response across all provenances to the climate of each test site. Provenance loadings on PC1 and PC2 were correlated with geographic parameters(i.e., latitude, longitude,elevation) and a suite of biophysical parameters associated with provenance origin ***: The amount of variation in radial growth explained by PC1 and PC2 ranged from 43.4% to 89.6%. Dendroclimatic models revealed that white pine radial growth responses to climate were complex and differed among sites. The DC and RF performance of 30 nm gate length enhancement mode （E-mode） InAlN/AIN/GaN high electron mobility transistor （HEMT） on siC substrate with heavily doped source and drain region have been inves- tigated using the synopsys TCAD tool. The proposed device has the features of a recessed T-gate structure, lnGaN back barrier and Al2O3 passivated device surface. The proposed HEMT exhibits a maximum drain current density of 2.1 A/mm, transconductance gm of 1050 ms/mm, current gain cut-off frequency f of 350 GHz and power gain cut-off frequency fmax of 340 GHz. At room temperature the measured carrier mobility （μ）, sheet charge carrier density （ns） and breakdown voltage are 1580 cm2/（V.s）, 1.9× 1013 cm-2, and 10.7 V respectively. The superla- tives of the proposed HEMTs are bewitching competitor or future sub-millimeter wave high power RF VLsI circuit applications.
