Utilization of Open source spatial Data for Landslide susceptibility mapping at Chittagong District of Bangladesh—An Appraisal for Disaster Risk Reduction and mitigation Approach

since creation of spatial data is a costly and time consuming process, researchers, in this domain, in most of the cases rely on open source spatial attributes for their specific purpose. Likewise, the present research aims at mapping landslide susceptibility at the metropolitan area of Chittagong district of Bangladesh utilizing obtainable open source spatial data from various web portals. In this regard, we targeted a study region where rainfall induced landslides reportedly causes causalities as well as property damage each year. In this study, however, we employed multi-criteria evaluation (mCE) technique i.e., heuristic, a knowledge driven approach based on expert opinions from various discipline for landslide susceptibility mapping combining nine causative factors—geomorphology, geology, land use/land cover (LULC), slope, aspect, plan curvature, drainage distance, relative relief and vegetation in geographic information system (GIs) environment. The final susceptibility map was devised into five hazard classes viz., very low, low, moderate, high, and very high, representing 22 km2 (13%), 90 km2 (53%);24 km2 (15%);22 km2 (13%) and 10 km2 (6%) areas respectively. This particular study might be beneficial to the local authorities and other stake-holders, concerned in disaster risk reduction and mitigation activities. moreover this study can also be advantageous for risk sensitive land use planning in the study area.

In Vitro Efficacy Assessment of Botanical Extracts against Botrytis gladiolorum Causing Gladiolus Leaf Blight

An experiment was conducted at the mycology laboratory, Department of Plant Pathology, sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka, Bangladesh to find out the efficacy of selected botanical extracts against Botrytis gladiolorum (Bg) causing gladiolus leaf blight. Infected leaves samples were collected from gladiolus farmers’ field and brought to the laboratory for study. Ten selected botanicals were used against the colony growth of (Bg). The botanicals were mehendi, Chrysanthemum, Basil (Tulsi), Onion, Neem, Bael, Arjuna, Garlic, Aloevera (Ghritkumary) and Turmeric. Botanical extracts were applied at the rate of 5%, 10% and 20%. The radial mycelia growth was found minimum (11.60 mm) in garlic extract treated plate at the dose of 5% at 5 DAI, which was statistically similar with turmeric extract treated (14.00 mm) plate and the inhibition of growth was 60% and 51.72%, respectively. similar trend was found at 10 DAI and 15 DAI. At 15 DAI, garlic and turmeric extract gave the best result against Bg, which was statistically similar with onion (50.07% inhibition) and mehendi (49.93%). All botanicals showed significantly different results over control and found effective in reducing the mycelial growth at the dose of 10%. At 5 DAI, no radial mycelia growth was found in garlic treated plate, which was statistically similar with onion treated plate, means that the inhibition of growth was 100%. similar trend was also found at 10 DAI, and 15 DAI but at 15 DAI, onion (30.20 mm) gave the statistically similar results with Garlic (30.10 mm) and the mycelia growth inhibition was (57.70%) and (57.84%), respectively. In case of 20% dose, garlic extract showed the best result at 5 DAI and the radial mycelia growth was found minimum (00.00 mm) which was statistically similar with onion extract treated (00.00 mm) plate and turmeric extract treated plate. A novel benzene core photonic crystal fiber （BC-PCF） is proposed for plasma sensing applications. The proposed BC-PCF parameters have been tuned to gain high sensitivity, high numerical aperture （NA）, and low confinement loss, and modality over the extensive variety of 0.7 μm to 1.9μm wavelength. The explored results for the ideal structure have exhibited the high sensitivity up to 77.84% and negligible confinement loss of 7.9×10^-3dB/m at 1.3μm wavelength. The V-barometer remains under 2.405 over the whole working wavelength. so the proposed BC-PCF is a single mode fiber, which advances the long partition correspondence applications. Furthermore, high numerical aperture （NA） makes the fiber potential candidate in medical imaging applications. The plan of the sensor is to find out the creative potential outcomes in sensing applications.

Highly Aligned Ultra-Thick Gel-Based Cathodes Unlocking Ultra-High Energy Density Batteries

Increasing electrode thickness can substantially enhance the specific energy of lithium-ion batteries;however,ionic transport,electronic conductivity,and ink rheology are current barriers to ***,a novel approach using a mixed xanthan gum and locust bean gum binder to construct ultrathick electrodes is proposed to address above *** combining aqueous binder with single-walled carbon nanotubes(sWCNT),active material(LiNi_(0.8)Co_(0.1)mn_(0.1)O_(2)) and subsequent vacuum freeze-drying,highly aligned,and low-tortuosity structures with a porosity of ca.50%can be achieved with an average pore size of 10μm,whereby the gum binder-sWCNT-NmC811 forms vertical structures supported by tissue-like binder/sWCNT networks allowing for excellent electronic conducting phase *** a result,ultra-thick electrodes with a mass loading of about 511 mg cm^(−2) and 99.5 wt%active materials have been demonstrated with a remarkable areal capacity of 79.3 mAh cm^(−2),which is the highest value reported so *** represents a>25×improvement compared with conventional electrodes with an areal capacity of about 3 mAh cm^(−2).This route also can be expanded to other electrode materials,such as LiFePO_(4) and Li_(4)Ti_(5)O_(12),and thus opens the possibility for low-cost and sustainable ultra-thick electrodes with increased specific energy for future lithium-ion batteries.

strong>Background and objective:strong> Nasal obstruction is the most frequent presentation to the otolaryngologist all over the world. symptoms are multisystem involvement such as headache, epistaxis, ophthalmological, otological, upper and lower respiratory tract infections;and many more. septoplasty is commonly performed for nasal septal deviation as a primary indication of nasal airway obstruction. Physical examination, anterior rhinoscopy and nasal endoscopy are considered the gold standard for detecting septal deviation. Computed tomography (CT) can also be used to evaluate the nasal septum, anatomical variants and unveils the associated sinonasal diseases. This study aimed to find out the advantages of CT in endoscopic septoplasty for all out benefits to the patients. strong>Patients and methods:strong> 168 patients of nasal septal deviation were selected from 2015 to 2018 in the Bangladesh medical and Popular medical College specialized Hospital. Age ranged between 10 years to 70 years of age. CT scanning in both coronal, axial and sagittal sections had been done in all patients after proper history taking, physical examination, anterior rhinoscopy and nasal endoscopy. Endoscopic septoplasty alone and/or other ancillary procedures were performed in all 168 patients under general anesthesia. strong>Results:strong> Amongst 168 patients, male was 116 (69%) and female was 52 (31%) with a ratio 2.2:1. maximum 58 (35%) reported in 31 to 40 years and 48 (29%) was found in 21 to 31 years of age. Hypertrophied inferior turbinate (HIT) 54 (32%) and 48 (29%) concha bullosa (CB) were associated with 168 septal deviation. Associated pathologies like maxillary antral cyst 68 (40%) and maxillary sinusitis 62 (37%) were documented. strong>Conclusion:strong> CT scanning unveils the abnormal anatomic variants and associated sinonasal pathologies along with nasal septal deviation. Background: Cystic hygromas are primarily found in the cervicofacial, thoracic, and abdominal regions, with limited occurrences in other areas. Despite existing literature on this condition, comprehensive descriptions and mRI findings of cystic hygromas in the extremities are rare. Aim: This case report aims to present a unique instance of a cystic hygroma in the left thigh. The objective is to provide detailed insights into the characteristics of this atypical presentation. Case Presentation: The case involves a 2-year-10 month-old girl with a cystic hygroma in her left thigh. The report includes a comprehensive description of the lesion’s clinical features and diagnostic evaluation, emphasizing the mRI findings to enhance understanding of this rare occurrence. Conclusion: This case report highlights the rarity of cystic hygromas outside the cervicofacial, thoracic, and abdominal regions, explicitly focusing on the occurrence in the left thigh. By presenting detailed insights into the clinical features, mRI findings, histopathological findings, and the surgical approach employed, this report contributes to the existing knowledge on this condition in atypical locations and informs future treatment strategies.

Bangladesh enjoys food self-sufficiency or deficiency depending on crop damages by drought, floods, cyclones, storm/tidal surges and other natural hazards. Data on climate extremes were collected from literatures. Landsat images were analyzed for water availability. Arithmetic, geometric and weighted means were calculated for community vulnerability delineation using IDRIsI3.2. About 12.64% populations live in disaster prone areas and their sensitivity to exposed hazards depends on financial capabilities. Crop area damages by natural hazards were the highest in Dhaka division followed by Rajshahi division during 2009-2014. The highest economic loss ($613 million) was found in Barisal division followed by Dhaka ($198.7 million) division. Flooding was the most damaging climate extreme followed by drought and hailstorm. Rice crops are frequently exposed to climate extremes and caused economic loss of $228 million during 2009-2014. Economic losses were se of wheat/maize areas damaged by natural hazards. The most vulnerable areas are situated in the south-west and north-west part of the country. The most affected areas (35.4% of the country) had economic losses of $940-1,170 ha-1. About 2-4.7 million households (HH) were affected by different natural hazards in different regions of the country. Flood affected HHs were predominant in northern and north-east regions of the country. Common adaptations to natural hazard exposures are crop switching and migration. The other adaptation options could be improvement of post disaster recovery efficiency through financial support, supplying seeds and other inputs based on seasonal suitability.

Penetrating injuries to the subclavian arteries as well as post traumatic pseudoaneurysm involving subclavian artery (sCA) are very much uncommon. We present one case of a 21 year-old male sustained a physical assault with a post stab injury left subclavian artery pseudoaneurysm. He was referred to our facility, two days after sustaining a penetrating chest trauma over left inspan>span>fraclavicular area of the chest. The presentation, diagnostic procedures and surgical approach for management of this very rare injury are discussed.span>span>span>
