In this work we present experiments by focusing 42 femtosecond laser pulses in air using three differentfocal length lenses: f=100, 30 and 5 cm. For the longest focal length, only the filament, which is aweak plasma column,is observed. When the shorter focal length lens is used, a high density plasma isgenerated near the geometrical focus and coexists with a weak plasma channel of the filamemt. Under thetightest focusing condition, filamentation is prevented and only a strong plasma volume appears at tehgeometrical focus.

＜正＞ As a result of focusing ultrafast Ti:sapphire laser pulses in a gas. a plasma column is created. Its density does not exceed some limiting value as a result of the defocusing by the electrons resulting from muluphoton ionization and the involvement of high order nonlinearities. The spectrum of the radiation from the excited species in the column has little contribution from the plasma continuum and the line broadening is less than that of the spectra radiated from a plasma generated by a long laser pulse. Thus. the spectroscopic source obtained using short laser pulses is an excellent source for spectroscopy, （?）2000 Published by Elsevier science B.V.

soluble receptor for advanced glycation end products(sRAGE)acts as a decoy sequestering of RAGE ligands,thus preventing the activation of the ligand-RAGE axis linking human ***,the molecular mechanisms underlying sRAGE remain *** this study,THP-1 monocytes were cultured in normal glucose(NG,5.5 mmol/l)and high glucose(HG,15 mmol/l)to investigate the effects of diabetesrelevant glucose concentrations on sRAGE and interleukin-1β(Il-1β)*** modulatory effects of epigallocatechin gallate(EGCG)in response to HG challenge were also *** enhanced intracellular reactive oxygen species(ROs)generation and RAGE *** secretion of sRAGE,including esRAGE and cRAGE,was reduced under HG conditions,together with the downregulation of a disintegrin and metallopeptidase 10(ADAM10)and nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2(Nrf2)nuclear ***,the HG effects were counteracted by siRAGE and exacerbated by *** immunoprecipitation results showed that Nrf2 binding to the ADAM10 promoter and HG interfered with this *** data reinforce the notion that RAGE and Nrf2 might be sRAGE-regulating *** HG conditions,the treatment of EGCG reduced ROs generation and RAGE ***-stimulated cRAGE release was likely caused by the upregulation of the Nrf2-ADAM10 *** inhibited HG-mediated NlRP3 inflammasome activation at least partly by stimulating sRAGE,thereby reducing Il-1βrelease.

AIM:To introduce a novel surgical technique using a Z-shaped incision without epithelial resection in ophthalmic ***:This was a prospective *** pterygium surgery,all proliferative tissues were separated from the cornea and conjunctiva without resection of the *** unaffected conjunctiva was incised in a *** upper(or lower)conjunctival flap was sutured to the lower(or upper)normal conjunctiva on the limbal sclera,while the proliferative tissue was sutured to the upper conjunctiva(or lower)near the ***:Ten patients with pterygia were eligible for this *** patients with primary pterygia and 2 with recurrent pterygia were *** age of patients at surgery ranged from 47 to 90y(average:71.9y).Five patients each showed right and left-sided *** postoperative follow-up periods were from 8 to 78mo(average:25.0mo).The surgery was successfully conducted and wounds were favorably reconstructed in all *** proliferative tissues sutured to the normal conjunctiva showed palor and attenuated neovessles,and never showed re-growth after *** patients did not show *** pterygium was noted in 1 patient,but additional treatments were not ***:The procedure involves the reconstruction of pterygial tissue and normal conjunctiva using a Z-shaped *** scleral limbal wound can be covered with nonaffected conjunctiva without any excision of conjunctival epithelia in patients with primary or recurrent pterygia.

BACKGROUND Acute carpal tunnel syndrome(ACTs)is commonly caused by repetitive strain,trauma,or inflammatory ***,ACTs due to tophaceous gout is a clinical event that remains poorly understood and *** rare manifestation necessitates prompt diagnosis and intervention to prevent irreversible *** sUMMARY A 51-year-old man who had poorly controlled hyperuricemia presented with ACTs secondary to tophaceous *** of rapid symptom progression symptoms and severe median nerve compression within 3 mo,the patient underwent emergency decompression surgery for both wrists at different time ***,he exhibited complete recovery of sensory and motor functions,with no recurrence at long-term *** outcomes were achieved through immediate decompression surgery,anti-inflammatory medications,postoperative active and passive range-of-motion exercises,and intermittent wrist *** diagnosis and surgical intervention,when necessary,are crucial for preventing long-term complications and obtaining favorable outcomes in patients with *** optimal gout management strategy involving pharmacologic therapy and lifestyle modifications may help minimize ACTs recurrence and improve clinical *** Prompt surgical intervention and optimal gout management are crucial for preventing irreversible nerve damage and ACTs recurrence.

Nd^(3+)-doped tellurite glasses are promising materials for thermometers based on the fluorescence intensity ratio(FIR)***,at high Nd^(3+)concentrations,energy transfer(ET)processes such as optical reabsorption and cross-relaxation can affect the Nd^(3+)emission,which has been little explored in the ***,the present work investigated the use of Nd^(3+)-doped tellurite glass(samples doped with Nd^(3+)at 0.2 mol%,0.5 mol%,2.0 mol%,and 4.0 mol%)in fluorescence thermometers,in the temperature range from 299 to 371 *** results indicate a strong dependence of the FIR parameters on the Nd^(3+)concentration,due to changes in the emission band profiles caused by optical reabsorption of the Nd^(3+)emissions and cross-relaxation processes.A decrease of the relative sensitivity of the ratio^(4)F_(5/2)→^(4)I_(9/2)/^(4)F_(3/2)→^(4)I_(9/2)is observed for samples doped with higher amounts of Nd^(3+).The maximum relative sensitivity at 299 K is 3.00%/K,which is the highest value among the reported Nd^(3+)ions.
