AIM:To determine the prevalence of a family history suggestive of Lynch syndrome (Ls) among patients with colorectal cancer (cRc) followed in a coloproctology outpatient clinic in southern ***:A consecutive sample of patients with cRc were interviewed regarding personal and family histories of *** data and pathology features of the tumor were obtained from chart ***:Of the 212 cRc patients recruited,61 (29%) reported a family history of cRc,45 (21.2%) were diagnosed under age 50 years and 11 (5.2%) had more than one primary *** histories consistent with Amsterdam and revised Bethesda criteria for Ls were identified in 22 (10.4%) and 100 (47.2%) patients,*** percent of the colorectal tumors had features of the high microsatellite instability phenotype,which was associated with younger age at cRc diagnosis and with Bethesda criteria (p patients above age 50 years had been previously submitted for cRc screening and only 4% of patients with suspected Ls were referred for genetic risk ***:A significant proportion of patients with cRc were at high risk for *** and training of health care professionals are essential to ensure proper management.

AIM:To study if impaired renal function is associated with increased risk of peri-infarct heart failure (HF) in patients with preserved ejection fraction (EF).METHODs:patients with occluded infarct-related arteries (IRAs) between 1 to 28 d after myocardial infarction (MI) were grouped into chronic kidney disease (cKD) stages based on estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR).Rates of early post-MI HF were compared among eGFR *** regression was used to explore independent predictors of ***:Reduced eGFR was present in 71.1% of 2160 patients,with significant renal impairment (eGFR prevalence of HF was higher with worsening renal function:15.5%,17.8% and 29.4% in patients with cKD stages 1,2 and 3 or 4,respectively (p spite a small absolute difference in mean EF across eGFR groups:48.2 ± 10.0,47.9 ± 11.3 and 46.2 ± 12.1,respectively (p=0.02).The prevalence of HF was again higher with worsening renal function among patients with preserved EF:10.1%,13.6% and 23.6% (p s relationship was not significant among patients with depressed EF:27.1%,26.2% and 37.9% (p= 0.071).Moreover,eGFR was an independent correlate of HF in patients with preserved EF (p=0.003) but not in patients with depressed EF (p=0.181).cONcLUsION:A significant proportion of post-MI patients with occluded IRAs have impaired renal *** renal function was associated with an increased rate of early post-MI HF,the association being strongest in patients with preserved *** findings have implications for management of peri-infarct HF.

For building a biosensor, at least two enzyme sources can be employed. The pure enzyme has features with better selectivity and low stability. crude extract presents better stability and wrong selectivity. Thus, one intermediate condition can be feasible joining both benefits of crude extract and pure enzymes. For that result, several procedures of extraction and semi purification of polyphenol oxidase (ppO) enzyme from banana (Musa sp.) were studied. The results showed that cleaned enzymatic extracts presented higher specific activities than crude extracts (2.8 up to 5.3 fold), despite the total protein concentration diminishing from 27% up to 72%, indicating that polyphenol oxidase (ppO) enzyme was preserved in them. The biosensors with 125 AU mL-1 containing cleaned enzymatic extracts performed better by grinding or grinding plus sonication for 30 s. They were linear over the ranges of 5.9 × 10-6 mol·L-1 to 1.4 × 10-3 mol·L-1 and 7.9 × 10-8 mol·L-1 to 4.0 × 10-3 mol·L-1, respectively. The limit of Detection (LOD) was 5.9 × 10-6 mol·L-1 and 7.9 × 10-8 mol·L-1, respectively. The LOD obtained is adequate to adrenaline determination on blood and medicinal samples, and were applied in medicinal samples with satisfactory results.

Dectin- 1 isoforms contribute to distinct Th 1/Th 17 cell activation in mucosal candidiasis

The recognition of p-glucans by dectin-1 has been shown to mediate cell activation, cytokine production and a variety of antifungal responses. Here, we report that the functional activity of dectin-1 in mucosal immunity to candida albicans is influenced by the genetic background of the host. Dectin-1 was required for the proper control of gastrointestinal and vaginal candidiasis in c57BIJ6, but not BALB/c mice; in fact, the latter showed increased resistance in the absence of dectin-1. The susceptibility of dectin-l-deficient c57BL/6 mice to infection was associated with defects in IL-17A and aryl hydrocarbon receptor-dependent IL-22 production and in adaptive Th I responses. In contrast, the resistance of dectin- 1-deficient BALB/c mice was associated with increased IL-17A and IL-22 production and the skewing towards Thl/Treg immune responses that provide immunological memory. Disparate canonical/ noncanonical NF-KB signaling pathways downstream of dectin-1 were activated in the two different mouse strains. Thus, the net activity of dectin-1 in antifungal mucosal immunity is dependent on the host＇s genetic background, which affects both the innate cytokine production and the adaptive Th1/Th17 cell activation upon dectin-1 signaling.

We present a new approach for calculating the c-factor of RUsLE considering the effect of low-reflectance vegetation cover areas on the reduction of the effects on erosion caused by rainfall *** this,we propose the coefficients cr2(rescaled 2)and c-pc(precipitation correction),which represent the cfactor,and an adaptation in NDVI calculation,according to the seasonality of precipitation(NDVI-pc).The cr2 factor is used when there is no seasonal effect of rainfall on vegetation,while the c-pc factor is calculated for localities under the influence of seasonality,from *** proposed approaches were tested using different satellites images in the palmares-Ribeir~ao do saco watershed,Rio de Janeiro,*** values of cr2 and c-pc factors were compared to the cr factor(rescaled)and to mean values from the literature for different land *** results indicated that the cr2 factor represents an improvement in accuracy in relation to cr by considering specific values of the studied area to normalize the data without ***,the c-pc factor is able to simulate the effect of seasonality,providing more realistics values of soil loss by the RUsLE as a function of the proportion of area affected by the rainfall seasonality obtained from *** conclude that both cr2 and c-pc factors generate values similar of the c-factor observed in the literature,and therefore are able to provide better soil loss estimation than that using the cr factor.

Description of socioeconomic and demographic profile of young women vulnerable to infection by human papillomavirus and risk behavior in a school in Rio de Janeiro

Background: HpV is one of the main sexually transmitted diseases, especially among the female population. This is an important etiologic agent for the development of cervical intraepithelial lesions and cervical cancer. It is considered a public health problem, since young women are the most vulnerable group to this virus. Therefore, it is important that the socioeconomic and demographic profile of these women and their risk behaviors are known, so that it is possible to contribute in reducing infection occurrences in the studied population. Objectives: To describe the socioeconomic and demographic characteristics and investigate the behavioral sexual-affective aspects of risk of adolescents and young students from Rio de Janeiro/Brazil when tackling HpV infection. Methods: A group composed by 128 individuals susceptible to HpV—classified as adolescent women and young women who are students at a high school in one unity of the municipality of Rio de Janeiro. The studied period was from May to November. A quantitative descriptive approach was used, in which data were highlighted in variables, divided into economic, demographic and behavioral characteristics. Data were entered into an Excel spreadsheet and organized by descriptive statistics performed by simple frequency (%). Results: The age range of the young women who have the possibility of being infected with HpV was from 15 to 25. The focused family income among these young women was up to 2 minimum wages. The risk behavior detected in 37.5% of adolescent women and in 43.8% of young women is that these women never used condoms in sexual intercourse. conclusion: The research showed that the studied women are vulnerable due to risk behavior practices that may lead to the virus acquisition. More focuses on educational actions of preventive measures regarding HpV infection should be emphasized, favoring a lower incidence of human papillomavirus infection and cervical cancer.
