strong>Introduction:strong> Interdialytic weight-gain (IDWG) has been linked to various complications in hemodialysis (HD) patients. strong>Method:strong> Prospective clinical-observational study to evaluate the effect of IDWG in HD patients on the rate of hospital admissions over a 12-month period, and the impact of high IDWG on the frequency of IDH. strong>Results:strong> Of the 240 patients, those who had IDWG ≥ 4%, 81% had at least one hospital admission due to volume-overload or the need for extra HD-session(s). On the other hand, only 19% of those having IDWG sessions (p se who were admitted (over 12 months) due to volume overload;74.1% had IDWG ≥ 4%, while 25.9% had IDWG s having IDWG ≥ 4% had at least one episode of IDH/week. On the other hand, only 22.5% of those with IDWG sode of IDH/week (p lyzing those who had at least one IDH episode/week;72.9% of them had IDWG ≥ 4%, while only 27.1% had IDWG strong>Conclusion:strong> In HD patients, the frequency of hospital admission due to volume-overload and the need for extra HD-sessions is strongly related to the amount of IDWG (>4% in our patients), the same stands for the frequency of IDH. Thus, control of IDWG in HD patients is of great importance, keeping in mind the importance of the nutrition status of HD patients that may also impact IDWG.

Vine decline disease (VDD) constitutes a menace to melons worldwide. Especially, the one caused by the fungus Monosporascus cannonballus. Thus, resistant plant material must be released to help growers. Hence, our goal was to develop resistant plant material to VDD. More than 600 melon accessions are expected to be tested for disease resistance in M. cannonballus infested soil in Weslaco, Texas, UsA, to identify resistance to VDD, and other important traits. so far, at most 7 lines were found to be resistant to VDD and some of them were used to develop elite, muskmelon inbred lines by pedigree breeding following single or double backcrosses. These elite parents were crossed to each other to develop the hybrids M3 and M4. They were also tested in the same infested field in Weslaco. The hybrids were grown using standard commercial practices followed by growers and when their fruits were ready, their roots were sampled as well as scored for disease severity to estimate high and mid-parent heterosis Our results indicate the existence of heterosis regarding resistance to VDD. Thus, resistant plant material can be developed and selection for resistance can be accomplished.

On the Production Testing of Memristor Ratioed logic (MRl) Gates

This paper focuses on the production testing of Memristor Ratioed logic (MRl) gates. MRl is a family that uses memristors along with CMOs inverters to design logic gates. Two-input NAND and NOR gates are investigated using the stuck at fault model for the memristors and the five-fault model for the transistors. Test escapes may take place while testing faults in the memristors. Therefore, two solutions are proposed to obtain full coverage for the MRl NAND and NOR gates. The first is to apply scaled input voltages and the second is to change the switching threshold of the CMOs inverter. In addition, it is shown that test speed and order should be taken into consideration. It is proven that three ordered test vectors are needed for full coverage in MRl NAND and NOR gates, which is different from the order required to obtain 100% coverage in the conventional NAND and NOR CMOs designs.

strong>Background:strong> Palatine tonsils are part of the immune system located within the Waldeyer’s ring, they are prone to infections, hypertrophy or both. These conditions are known as tonsil diseases that usually require surgical removal through tonsillectomy. Tonsillectomy is one of the most common procedures done for children but it is challenged by the occurrence of complications, especially post tonsillectomy bleeding (PTB). In the current study, the incidence of post tonsillectomy bleeding in children younger than 14 years undergoing tonsillectomy in salmaniya Medical Complex is evaluated and their demographic data and risk factors are assessed. strong>Method:strong> Pediatric patients who are younger than 14 years with postoperative tonsillectomy bleeding that were treated in salmaniya Medical Complex between the period of January 2018 and December 2019 were retrospectively studied for risk factors. strong>Results:strong> A total of 1161 patients within the age range of 2 - 13 years old underwent tonsillectomy in salmaniya Medical Complex from the period of January 2018 to December 2019. Twenty-eight pediatric patients had post-tonsillectomy bleeding (PTB) during the study period with an incidence of 2.4% of the total number of pediatric tonsillectomies done in our institute. The majority were male patients and the mean age was 6.2 years. The main indication of tonsillectomy for those with bleeding was recurrent tonsillitis. A second surgery was needed in 64.5% to control the bleeding. The size of the tonsil, the level of the surgeon and the season at which the tonsillectomy was done did not seem to have any effect on the incidence of post-tonsillectomy bleeding (PTB). strong>Conclusion:strong> The incidence of post tonsillectomy bleeding (PTB) in salmaniya Medical Complex is 2.4%, which makes it a common complication for a common surgery irrelevant to any patient, surgeon or climate related factors.

Recent Foraminifers from Oman Coast

This study presents the first documentation work on recent benthic foraminifers of Oman coasts, especially of the northern part of sultanate at sawadi and the southern part at Janoof Tidal Creek near Taqah-salalah beach. Eleven samples were collected from both localities. Twenty-nine species of benthonic Foraminifera belonging to 20 genera are retrieved, identified and illustrated herein. The study areas show the interaction in land and sea. lagoons with normal marine hypersaline inhabited with sea grass and Mangrove-swamps. Mainly calcareous porcellaneous and hyaline walled foraminifers are abundant. Environmentally, the Janoof Tidal Creek shows better condition than sawadi Tidal Creek as reflected by the more diverse and high abundance of foraminiferal taxa at the former locality. Both water bodies are free of toxic-heavy elements as evidenced by the lack of any abnormal foraminiferal test.

A Novel Technique for Detection of Time Delay switch Attack on load Frequency Control

In this paper, we focus on the estimation of time delays caused by adversaries in the sensing loop (sl). Based on the literature review, time delay switch (TDs) attacks could make any control system, in particular a power control system, unstable. Therefore, future smart grids will have to use advanced methods to provide better situational awareness of power grid states keeping smart grids reliable and safe from TDs attacks. Here, we introduce a simple method for preventing time delay switch attack on networked control systems. The method relies on an estimator that will estimate and track time delays introduced by an adversary. Knowing the maximum tolerable time delay of the plant’s optimal controller for which the plant remains stable, a time-delay detector issues an alarm signal when the estimated time delay is larger than the minimum one and directs the system to alarm state. In an alarm state, the plant operates under the control of an emergency controller that is local to the plant and remains in this mode until the networked control system state is restored. This method is an inexpensive and simple way to guarantee that an industrial control system remains stable and secure.

Impact of Mating Frequency on Fecundity, Fertility and longevity of Red Palm Weevil, Rhynchophorus ferrugineus （Olivier）（Coleoptera： Curuclionidae）

The reproductive behavior of red palm weevil, Rhynchophorusferrugineus Olivier was studied in laboratory with several sets of unmated females paired with unmated males for different periods. The treatments in these controlled mating experiments included single mating, multiple mating for 24 h, multiple mating weekly, multiple mating on alternate days and multiple mating uninterrupted with a control group. During the study, observations were made on the number of eggs laid, incubation period, hatching percentage, ovipositional periods and adult longevity. Though unmated females laid a large number of eggs, these were infertile. This study clearly showed significant differences in the egg-laying capacity of females exposed to different frequencies of mating. The average number of eggs laid varied from 98.9 ± 9.7 eggs in a single-time mated female to 195.8± 24.3 eggs in females allowed to mate on alternate days throughout their life. As far as the percentage of egg-hatching is concerned, there were significant differences in single and multiple mated females with 22.4 ± 3.3% hatching in one time mated females as compared to 85.2 ± 1.9% in alternate day mated females. This study also showed direct impact of female matings on the number of eggs laid and their hatching percentage. Moreover, the unmated and mated female groups showed no significant differences in oviposition and post-ovipositional period and also there was very little difference in male and female adult longevity.

Neutropenic enterocolitis in pediatric leukemia patients treated with intensive chemotherapy in Upper Egypt

Importance: In low resource countries, there has been scarcity of research on the risk factors associated with neutropenic enterocolitis, a serious complication that commonly develops during treatment of cancer ***: To identify the pattern of intestinal complications in pediatric leukemia patients treated with intensive chemotherapy, including those with neutropenic enterocolitis;to assess the outcome;and to evaluate the risk factors associated with the mortality in these ***: During the period from June 2015 to December 2016, a prospective study was carried out on pediatric patients diagnosed with acute leukemia who received induction/or re-induction phases of chemotherapy at south Egypt Cancer Institute. Patients with documented episodes of intestinal complications were included in the study. Recovery or death from an episode of intestinal complication was utilized as the primary outcome measure for the study. Using univariable and multivariable methods, potential risk factors associated with mortality were delineated by logistic regression analysis, both for the entire intestinal complications episodes as a whole and for those episodes of neutropenic enterocolitis ***: Out of 88 documented episodes of intestinal complications from 77 patients;58 episodes were identified as neutropenic enterocolitis from 47 patients. In those patients who were having episodes of neutropenic enterocolitis, the presence of abdominal tenderness (OR 4.529, 95%CI 1.062-19.317,P = 0.041);a longer duration of neutropenia (OR 1.215, 95%CI 1.030-1.434,P = 0.021);and hemodynamic instability (OR 17.023, 95%CI 4.095-70.772,P ly associated with worse ***: In Upper Egypt, the use of intensive systemic chemotherapy during the induction phase of acute leukemia was found to be associated with potentially lethal intestinal complications. A high index of clinical suspicion is warranted.

Fabrication and Characterization of Tungsten Heavy Alloys Using Chemical Reduction and Mechanical Alloying Methods

A novel reduction technique has been developed to synthesize nano-sized tungsten heavy alloys powders and compared with the same powders processed by mechanical alloying technique. In the first method, nano-sized tungsten heavy alloys powders have been obtained by reduction of precursors obtained by spray drying of several appropriate aqueous solutions, which were made from salts containing tungsten, cobalt, and nickel. By adjusting the stoichiometry of the component of the solutions, it is possible to obtain the desired chemical composition of the tungsten heavy alloys powders. In the second method, highly pure elemental powders of tungsten heavy alloys have been mechanically alloyed in a tumbler ball mill for different milling time. The investigated tungsten heavy alloy powders with the composition (95%W-3.5%Ni-1.5%Fe), (93%W-4.5%Ni-1.0%Fe-1.5%Co), and (90%W-6%Ni-4%Cu) have been prepared using both methods. The prepared powders have been compacted at 70 bar (200 MPa) and sintered in vacuum furnace at 1400℃. Vacuum sintering was carried out to achieve full densification of the produced tungsten heavy alloys. The investigated materials were going to be evaluated the physical and mechanical properties of the sintered parts such as density;electrical conductivity, hardness, and transverse rupture strength. The results reveal that, the grain size of alloys fabricated by chemical reduction technique (53.1 - 63.8 nm) is smaller than that fabricated by mechanical alloying technique (56.4 - 71.4 nm).

Formaldehyde Exposure, Health symptoms and Risk Assessment among Hospital Workers in Malaysia

Formaldehyde is a chemical commonly used in hospitals as a tissue preservative;histopathology laboratory personnel are therefore among the workers most heavily exposed to formaldehyde. This study measured the formaldehyde exposure through ambient and personal air sampling, assessed the symptoms of poor health as well as estimating the health risk among hospital workers. We conducted a comparative cross-sectional study of both histopathology laboratory (exposed) and administration (nonexposed) workers in four hospitals in the Klang Valley, selangor, Malaysia. Ambient and personal exposure to formaldehyde was measured using the OsHA 52 and NIOsH 2541 methods, respectively. The 8-hr time-weighted-average formaldehyde concentration was higher in exposed areas (0.25 ± 0.11 ppm) than nonexposed areas (0.08 ± 0.02 ppm). Histopathology workers were exposed to between 140% and 480% higher concentrations of formaldehyde than administration workers. Personal exposure was highest during grossing tasks (0.797 ± 0.436 ppm). A total of 67% of the exposed workers exhibited the same ten health symptoms related to formaldehyde exposure, and 57% of the nonexposed workers reported similar symptoms at their current workplace. Notably, symptoms of eye irritation, headache, drowsiness, and chest tightness were significantly more prevalent (p square and Fisher’s exact tests) among the exposed workers than the nonexposed workers. Among those with symptoms, 37% of the exposed workers, and 16% of the nonexposed workers believed that the symptoms were related to their current working environment. The noncancer effect of formaldehyde from air inhalation poses a potential risk of eye irritation among exposed workers. The cancer risk was not significant in both groups. Formaldehyde levels and symptoms of poor health were significantly higher among the exposed group. Exposure and risk could be minimised by strengthening control measures to improve indoor air quality in the workplace.
