sixteen polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons were determined in water samples from the Piracicaba River and the Doce River in the municipality of Ipatinga, Minas Gerais state, Brazil. The polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons were extracted by solid-phase extraction and were analyzed by high-performance liquid chromatographic with diode-array detector. The limit of detection was as low as 1.3 ng·l-1. All polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons were found above the limit of quantification in water from at least four of the eight sampling points. Benzo[a]pyrene and chrysene were found at concentrations up to 80% above the limit set by Brazilian and European environmental legislation (0.05 μg·l-1). The isomer ratios of the compounds indicated that crude oil and combustion processes were the main sources of the polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons.

This study aimed to evaluate the antimicrobial activity of the extract of libidibia ferrea l. (228.022-INPA) and a mouthwash formulation against microorganisms of the dental biofilm. The extract of libidibia ferrea l. was prepared and formulated with an alcohol-free mouthwash. The Minimum Inhibitory Concentration—MIC was determined by microdilution and cell viability was evaluated through fluorescence. The MICs for the extract were 4.375 μg/ml (streptococcus mutans), 3.750 μg/ml (streptococcus oralis), 4.375 μg/ml (lactobacillus casei). In contrast, for the mouthwash, the MICs were 6.000 μg/ml (bacteriostatic against streptococcus mutans and bactericidal against streptococcus oralis). In 1.250 μg/ml of the extract, the number of viable cells measured by fluorescence tests was 16.47% and 14.12% for streptococcus mutans and lactobacillus casei, respectively. For the mouthwash (1.000 μg/ml), 20.60% of viable cells for streptococcus mutans, and 9.60% for lactobacillus casei were observed. It can be concluded that the extract and its mouthwash containig libidibia ferrea l. showed antibacterial activity against microorganisms from the dental biofilm.

Environmental pressure, land utilization, and economic feasibility have resulted in the development of alternatives to treatment fish farm wastewater. We examined the influence of two water treatment systems—a constructed wetland (CW) and a soil filter system (sF)—on the constitution of the phytoplankton community analyzed through the functional grouping of species and nutrients removal of aquaculture farm. The CW provided high removal efficiency: 82.9% for ammonia, 87.0% for nitrate, 96.9% for nitrite, 85.5% for total phosphorus, 88.5% for sRP and 71.6% for BOD. Removal efficiency of sF was lower than CW, removing 82.1% of ammonia, 7.2% of total phosphorus, 45.9% of sRP and 39.4% of nitrite, but was satisfactory. The functional group F, made up of Chlorophyceae Dictyosphaerium pulchellum and Kirchneriella lunaris, was the most representative in both systems, followed by functional group P and constituted by Zygnemaphyceae Melosira sp. The number of functional groups decreased in the outlet of the two treatment systems, where s1, H1 and W1, characteristic of eutrophic environment, were retained. Data show that CW and the sF system are potentially applicable to the fish farm wastewater treatment and ensure an improvement in water quality.

The new coronavirus (sARs-CoV-2) broke out in Wuhan in China in december 2019, causing severe pneumonia and deaths, soon in March 2020, it reached pandemic level, affecting several countries including Brazil. The disease was named COVID-19, with characteristics of most infected having mild and moderate symptoms and a part severe symptom. The disease has already reached 158 ethnic groups, which have high vulnerability and limited access to health services. The objective is to investigate the clinical and spatial characteristics of severe Acute Respiratory syndrome of COVID-19 in the indigenous peoples of Brazil. It is an epidemiological, cross-sectional, analytical ecological study, based on data from the OpenDatasUs platform from 01/01/2020 to 31/08/2020. Profile variables, signs and symptoms and risk factors/comorbidities. The data were analyzed by Bioestat 5.3. There were 1,207 cases and 470 deaths. Profile: male gender (59.48%) means age 53 years. signs and symptoms: fever (74.23%), cough (77.71%), sore throat (35.62%), dyspnea (69.34%), respiratory discomfort (62.80%), Osub>2sub> saturation ssociated with mortality: dyspnea (80.0%) and Osub>2sub> saturation sk factors and comorbidities (45.89%) were associated with deaths (54.04%). About comorbidities, chronic cardiovascular diseases represented (18.97%) and Diabetes Mellitus (18.97%), and associated with deaths: Chronic Cardiovascular Disease (24.46%). Being admitted to the ICU has a risk of death in (OR-3.96- llowed by not being vaccinated against influenza (OR-1.85- lic and health policies of Brazil should be directed to control the dissemination of COVID-19 in this population, that COVID-19 evolves in the same intensity, however, the indigenous have vulnerabilities that can increase the impact of the pandemic in this population.

We investigated the transport, thermal and magnetic properties of antiferromagnetic (TN = 45 K) Gd2InGe2. Magnetization measurements under applied magnetic field, oriented along different crystallographic directions, were used to extract the anisotropic magnetocaloric effect. We also measured magnetization under pulsed field up to 45 T. From the analysis of the electrical transport and magnetization, conduction band electrons were weakly coupled to Gd f-electron local moments. Differential scanning calorimeter data confirmed a second order phase of the antiferromagnetic to paramagnetic transition. The anisotropic magnetocaloric effect points to a model of magnetic ordering whereby Gd local moments couple ferromagnetically and antiferromagnetically perpendicular and parallel, respectively, to the c-axis.

Biodiversity and distribution of benthic dinoflagellates in tropical Zhongsha Islands,south China sea

Benthic dinoflagellates have attracted increasing attention in recent years because of their toxicity and ability to form extensive harmful algal *** producing palytoxin and its analogs,Gambierdiscus producing ciguatera toxins,and Prorocentrum producing okadaic acid and dinophysis toxins,have been concerned as serious human *** explored the benthic dinoflagellate biodiversity and distribution characteristics of a series of tropical reefs in 20-40-m water depth in wet season in the Zhongsha Islands in south China sea using morphological,phylogenetic,and cell counting *** show that benthic dinoflagellates in the islands are rich in biodiversity and 15 species from genera Amphidinium,Coolia,Ostreopsis,and Prorocentrum were identifi ed:Amphidinium carterae,***,***,***,Coolia canariensis,***,***,***,Ostreopsis ***,Prorocentrum concavum,***,***,*** fmannianum,***,and *** them,*** is reported for the first time in Chinese *** abundance of benthic dinoflagellates was relatively low at 88-4345 cells/100 cm^(2) on sediment and 10-91 cells/g on *** and Amphidinium were the dominant and subdominant genera,*** is speculated that the low abundance of benthic dinoflagellates is closely related to the scarcity of macroalgae and stronger water motion at the depth>15 m in Zhongsha *** study expanded the study in biodiversity of benthic dinoflagellates in Chinese waters,and revealed the distribution characteristics of harmful benthic microalgae in reef habitats.

Boom clay formation is a potential natural host rock for geological disposal of high-level nuclear waste in *** pulse tests with controlled power supply（maximum temperature was limited to 85℃） and controlled hydraulic boundary conditions were performed under nearly constant volume conditions to study the impact of thermal loading on the clay *** test results of intact borehole samples retrieved in horizontal direction are presented and *** study focuses on the time evolution of temperature and pore water pressure changes along heating and cooling paths,*** pressure build-up during quasi-undrained heating and later dissipation at constant temperature.
