Influence of Pixel Quality, Land Cover, and Hydroclimatic Cycle on Moderate Resolution Imaging spectroradiometer Inundation Monitoring Performance in the Pantanal, Brazil

Moderate resolution imaging spectroradiometer (MODIs) time series (Ts) have been widely applied for flood monitoring in large tropical wetlands. However, little systematic work is available on the influence of pixel quality, vegetation cover, and the annual hydroclimatic cycle on classification performance. In this study, this issue is examined based on a six-year, 250 m resolution MOD13Q1 Ts underpinned by extensive in situ measurements. The most parsimonious logistic regression model was obtained for land surface water index (LsWI) and enhanced vegetation index (EVI). The inclusion of the 500 m MCD12Q1 land cover Type 2 product improves accuracy. Performance markedly decreases for subsets that include pixels with a VI quality assurance (QA) level poorer than 0110 and/or a pixel reliability (PR) of three. When a savitzky-Golay filter was used for Ts reconstitution, performance is slightly lower than those obtained in a classification of a VI QA 0001 or PR = 0 level strata;moreover, these have the advantage of gap-free flood monitoring. The overall accuracy (OA) of the PR = 0 subset is better for grasslands, and slightly lower for savannah, and for woodland and forests. The average OA is highest for the dry season, intermediate for the rainy/flooded season, and lowest for the transitional seasons, when the wetland becomes flooded or dries. Comparisons of internal, k-fold, and external validations indicate that only external validation enables a realistic assessment of flood-mapping performance. The complete substitution of PR = 3 pixels by filled-in values is recommended for operational flood monitoring, and it is concluded that the use of the simplified PR metrics as filtering criteria for gap filling and smoothing is sufficient for flood monitoring in the Pantanal. Evidence-Based Complementary and Alternative Medicine Effects of Capybara Oil on Cardiac Remodeling of C57bl/6 Mice

Cardiovascular diseases are the main cause of morbidity and mortality in the world, and obesity and the metabolic syndrome are risk factors for its development. One of the therapies to reduce cardiovascular risk is the use of polyunsaturated fatty acids. In Brazil, a source of such acid is the oil extracted from the fat of the capybara. The objective of this work is to study the effects of the capybara oil on lipid and glucose metabolism, as well as its effects on the adipose tissue and cardiac remodeling. We assessed the effects of capybara oil treatment on body mass, lipid and carbohydrate metabolism, systolic blood pressure, adipose tissue and cardiac remodeling, and performed an ultrastructural evaluation of the myocardium in C57Bl/6 mice treated with high-fat diet. Treatment with capybara oil reduced total cholesterol and triglyceride levels, systolic blood pressure, visceral and subcutaneous adipose tissue, and adipocyte diameter. In addition, cardiac remodeling was attenuated, preserving cardiomyocytes, increasing vascularization, reducing cardiomyocyte hypertrophy and the extracellular matrix, and preserving the morphological integrity of mitochondria. Capybara oil has several beneficial effects on the cardiovascular and metabolic system, and further studies are needed to better understand its role in the prevention or treatment of cardiovascular diseases.

Critically ill cirrhotic patients have high in-hospital mortality and utilize significant health care resources as a consequence of the need for multiorgan *** this fact,their mortality has decreased in recent decades due to improved care of critically ill ***-on-chronic liver failure(ACLF),sepsis and elevated hepatic scores are associated with increased mortality in this population,especially among those not eligible for liver *** score is superior to another in the prognostic assessment of these patients,and both liver-specific and intensive care unit-specific scores have satisfactory predictive *** sequential assessment of the scores,especially the sequential Organ Failure Assessment(sOFA)and Chronic Liver Failure Consortium(CLIF)-sOFA scores,may be useful as an auxiliary tool in the decision-making process regarding the benefits of maintaining supportive therapies in this population.A CLIF-ACLF>70 at admission or at day 3 was associated with a poor prognosis,as well as sOFA score>19 at baseline or increasing sOFA score>*** studies addressing the prognostic assessment of these patients are necessary.

We recognize the chemical composition of the acetonic extract of Rhizophora mangle barks(AERM)using mass spectrometry analysis[liquid chromatography(LC)–EsI–IT-Ms/Ms and matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization-time of flight-Ms(MALDI-TOF)].Analgesic activity was evaluated by formalin and tail-flick experimental ***-inflammatory activity was performed by paw edema test induced by carrageenan and 48/80 *** first series of experiments involved[LC]–FIA–IT-Ms/Ms with 11 separated catechins derivatives until degree of polymerization 3(DP3).The spectra obtained by MALDI-TOF analysis of the AERM presented two homologous series:one based on polymers of m/z 288 da increments(up to DP12)and another series based on polymers of m/z[288?162]da increments(up to DP11).In addition to these series of flavan-3-ol,each DP had a subset of masses with a variation of-16 da(homologous series of afzelechins-m/z 873–3465 da)and +16 da(homologous series of gallocatechins-m/z 905–3497 da).A similar pattern with homologous series of gallocatechins and afzelechins could also be observed for a fifth and a sixth monohexoside series:glucogallocatechins(m/z 779–3371)and glucoafzelechins(m/z 747–3339).The intraperitoneal administration of different doses of AERM(50,150 and 300 lg mL^(-1))have a morphine-like effect and intense anti-inflammatory activity.
